Allstate canceled our home insurance policy effective February 20, 2008.

Since receiving the cancellation notice, we have received several phone calls from Allstate wanting to discuss our policy.  I explained there is nothing to discuss, we were dropped, and we had found a new company.

Friday, my new insurance company called to say I needed to authorize the change with our mortgage.  I called and authorized it.

Tuesday, the new insurance company called again and said the mortgage company wouldn't cut the check from my escrow account.  I called them back.

Apparently, a check had already been cut to Royal Palms Insurance for $1,376.21.  ($378 more than my new insurance company, and about $250 more than what I paid with Allstate)

I looked up Royal Palms Insurance and it is a division of Allstate.  I canceled the insurance.

When I spoke to a woman at Royal Palms she said I would have had to fill out a piece of paper stating I wanted Royal Palms Insurance.  I never filled out any such piece of paper.  Allstate switched my insurance to their company without my authorization AFTER I made it clear I would not do business with them.

I'm canceling my car insurance too.

Sound like this is a job for Tom.

I've heard that not only Allstate, but most insurance Co. pull this kind of stunt. I don't know how they get away with it.

You've got to do some work. Start with the Fl attorney general, the FTC, the Real Estate Commission, and get get em' good. Allstate cancelled my insurance and kept my paid up balance! Also, small claims court doesn't cost that much and if you (or your spouse)has the time you can put em' in court for two days for a start. I did and it was great fun.

A friend was just told he had to get flood insurance because of the new FEMA flood plain changes.. His ins comp. is allstate they quoted him 300 a year. He signed up for it!
Then got a $2500 bill from the underwriters...

Hes dropped allstate for State Farm..

Insurance isn't what it used to be.. Your almost better off investing in gold and burying it in the back yard as insurance..

And that my friend is why I don't do escrow of any kind! I take care of my insurance and property taxes myself without any kind of middle man! That little extra that you give your mortgage company can be placed in a saving account by you just as easily! Think about it! That way there are no surprises!

sorry i've been with AllState for three years......EXCELLENT SERVICE...I did however, notice some kind of flyer...it came in an allstate envelope about providing home owners..which appeared very fishy...so it may be THERE'S A SCAMSTER OUT THERE...and allstate may not know about it......I have been meaning to call my agent but I 've been too busy having my blood pressure up and bloggin..lol...

If we had a decent state attorney general like Crist before he became governor, we could reel these crooks in. You'd better sanitize your self if you're in the "good hands" of Allstate.

Allstate needs to be thrown out of Florida.
When my wife and I moved here from New Jersey, they wanted to raise her vehicle rates $300 for full coverage!
I myself have had State Farm since I first started driving, so needless to say, I put her on my insurance.

I share your feelings about Allstate- they do not write home owners in Florida anymore- they use Royal Palm.
I was messed up by Allstate/Royal Palm, when I went INTO the allstate office and gave them a check , and they didnt forward it to RP in time and RP cancelled me(after we thought that giving them the check and was all clear, we went on our daily business)
about 4 weeks later RP sent us our original check back saying it came too late !
my mortgage company then opened an escrow acct in my name (nice of them) and proceeded to charge me 1000 for 5 weeks missed coverage and if I didnt pay would start to wreck my credit !

In My humble opinion Allstate should be banned from Florida.
(they got kicked out of the states insurance commisioners inquiry for not co-operating with the state) that should tell you something about Allstate.

Insurance-what a racket- and a rip of- you pay money- you dont have any accidents or any home claims and you dont get any of your money back !

OH for those with mortgages or about to get one-avoid HOME Q service like the plague- just see how many complaints there are about them on the net..

Unfortunately Allstate has been doing this sort of thing for decades. I had a similar cancellation situation with them back in 1975. It apparently is not an insurance company to place confidence in. Here is another example of the necessity for people being able to sue.
