This has been circulating for many years now.

If was originally spoken on September 1, 2000 and was read into the US Congressional Record on September 20, 2000.

It is worth posting and worth circulating again and again and again.

 

This is a statement that was read over the PA system at the football game at  Roane County High School , Kingston , Tennessee , by school Principal, Jody McLeod

"It has always been the custom at  Roane County High School football games, to say a prayer and play the National Anthem, to honor God and Country."

Due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, I am told that saying a Prayer is a violation of Federal Case Law. As I understand the law at this time, I can use this public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it "an  alternate lifestyle," and if someone is offended, that's OK.

I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity, by dispensing condoms and calling it, "safe sex." If someone is offended, that's OK.

I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a "viable! means of birth control." If someone is offended, no problem...

I can designate a school day as "Earth Day" and involve students in  activities to worship religiously and praise the goddess "Mother Earth" and call it "ecology."

I can use literature, videos and pr esentations in the classroom that depicts people with strong, traditional Christian convictions as "simple minded" and "ignorant" and call it "enlightenment."

However, if anyone uses this facility to honor GOD and to ask HIM to Bless this event with safety and good sportsmanship, then Federal Case Law is violated.

This appears to be inconsistent at best, and at worst, diabolical.  Apparently, we are to be tolerant of everything and anyone, except GOD and HIS Commandments.

Nevertheless, as a school principal, I frequently ask staff and students to abide by rules with which they do not necessarily agree. For me to do otherwise would be inconsistent at best, and at worst, hypocritical... I suffer from that affliction enough unintentionally. I certainly do not need to add an intentional transgression.

For this reason, I shall "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's," and refrain from praying at this time.

" However, if you feel inspired to honor, praise and thank GOD and ask HIM,in the name of JESUS, to Bless this event, please feel free to do so.  As far as I know, that's not against the law----yet."

One by one, the people in the stands bowed their heads, held hands with one another and began to pray.

They prayed in the stands. They prayed in the team huddles. They prayed at the concession stand and they prayed in the Announcer's Box!

The only place they didn't pray was in the Supreme Court of  the  United States of America- the Seat of "Justice" in the "one nation, under GOD."

Somehow,  Kingston ,  Tennessee Remembered what so many have forgotten. We are given the Freedom OF Religion, not the Freedom FROM Religion.

Did the principle get fired for EXPLAINING WHY he chose to follow the ordinance with which he disagreed?

Seem like folks like to supliment the 2nd Amendment with the non-Constitutional language of "separation of church and state" to dilute and marginalize religious expression in public areas.

I am not sure about that dida, I was only 35 at the time :o)

As far as separation of church and state?
Many people do not know that Paul Revere on his famous ride was travelling to a church, and it was the church people who took up arms to fight tne British.
Many people do not know that the first Speaker of the House was a minister, Frederocl Agustus Muhlenberg, and so was his brother Peter, who ended up being a general in the Continental Army.

Many people fail to realize it was because of Christians that this country fought, and that people of no other Faith significantly contributed. It was churches and PASTORS that led the charges against the British.

Based on these events alone is proof enough that Sepearation of Church and State is not a viable position. It was never ever intended to be that way. Take God out of Government and you take success out of governent. The two are not and cannot be mutually exclusive.

And it should also be noted that the Christians were fighting against...... drum roll please..... CHRISTIANS!!!

So we agree that Christians will kill other people, even other Christians, making them no better than anyone else.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech..."

Right on. I like the attitude of "if you want to pray, then pray". Just don't demand it or demand that the rest of us solemnly sit in silence as you perform your rituals. I am not bound to honor them.

Nobody is asking you to honor any ritual. In the same way, my kids refuse to honor Mother Earth in the neo-religious ceremonies practiced in our public school on "Earth Day."

Norty, your point about "Chrisitans" fighting against "Christians" is not about religion, but rather about a form of govenment that overstep it bounds by dictating the details of religious practices. That is the problem with a monarchy.

A monarchy run by Christians, fighting against treasonous Christian rebels.

You prove time and again that your religion produces just as much or more hatred, murder, and fighting, as any other group.

How many Christians lynched people for having dark skin? How many Christians abused their political power to attack others, even other Christians? Plenty.

Christians do not live in the light of God. They live in the shadows of the human condition.

So don't tell me what a wonderful world it would be if we all took up the bible. The world doesn't work that way.

The Holy Bible is full of wonderful mythological stories ans there is much to be gained by reading it. But so is the Quran, so is Plato, so is Aesop. All of these books are great in their own respects but none of them are divine and none of them has all of life's answers in them.

No, it is not living in the light and truth of God's Word that results in the hateful manifestations you mentioned. The Christian faith doesn't produce that.

You are, however, spot on it recognizing how many people who profess Christianity choose to live "low" rather than striving for excellence and holiness.

Application and transformation DO make a difference in how people live as compare to nominalism. Also imperfect application of truth doesn't change the nature of that truth. Turning out a light to hide in a dark room doesn't nulify the reality and functionality of electricity.

Good point about other good literature with moral teachings.

The difference with Christianity is that the teaching doesn't have it's full value and understand apart from the person (Jesus Christ) and his work (substitutionay atonement for sin). All other works, whether religious or moral in nature, are mere philosophical teachings independant from the person who delivered them.

The nature of the manifestations is natural. There is ZERO evidence to the contrary.

Define: "The Christian faith". What DOES it produce?

No, I pointed out that the overwhelming majority of them do not follow Christ's teachings religiously. Pun intended.

Maybe it made not sense because it was written so simply that it was impossible for anyone to understand buy YOU?

Those who kill in the name of Christ are NOT Christians. They may take on the name, but they are no more a Christian than a rattlesnake.

That said, it is not EASY to live up to the expectations of true Christianity. In fact, it's impossible. That is why we have a mediator, Jesus Christ, the atoner, the substitution for US, who DID live the perfect life, and proved that only through HIM can we reach God.

Northton, you make an interesting point about other literature that may be good. But what about when one piece contradicts another? They cannot both be true. Just because you believe something to be true, does not mean that it is.

Here is a crude example: Red Means Stop. Green Means Go. I choose to believe that because it is based upon current traffic laws. But what if I chose to believe the opposite? What happens? So I end up in court to defend myself, and my defense is this "I believe that Red Means Go, and Green Means STOP". What do you think the judge will say?

Or what if I believe that 5 plus 5 equals 55? So I get a job as a cashier at Wal-Mart. You come to my checkout with two $5 items. I tell you, "that will be $55 plus tax". I truly believe that 5 plus 5 equals 55, but that does not make it true.

We pick and choose what we want to be true.

Many years ago, I used to believe that "God helps those who help themselves" was in the Bible. Later I found that it is a quote from Benjamin Franklin. The reality is that God helps those who CANNOT help them selves. God is the source, God is the provider, and all Truth is God's Truth.

There is something that can be learned from the Quran, Aesops, Vedic Literature and Karate lessons, but when it collides with truth, it must be struck down and exposed.

I have to go now, I see the light is green and I have to stop.

You get it! That's exactly what I do. I am exposing the bible as the mythology that it is. Your "truth" is based on fairy tales. My truth is based on evidence. You have none so I win!

Hi, I'm a musician, I live in a house and I have 3 dogs. I believe in God and Jesus, and am the most imperfect person in the world. The hand I have been dealt is better than most, but not as good as others. I am blessed to be alive, and looking forward to the day when this body will be replaced.
