Have you ever heard that?  Or have you heard someone say "I can't believe that a loving God would send someone to a Hell".

How hard is it to believe that a loving God would send unrepentant criminals to hell?

If we have jails for people who lie, steal, cheat, kill and other things, then why is it so hard to believe that God created a hell?

I've blogged that no-one is beyond Redemption.  I have also stated that there are those who are beyond restoration.  Not in the eyes of God, but in the eyes of man.

I believe that you MUST forgive EVERYONE for EVERYTHING, no matter what.  That does not mean that you let your brains fall out and let that convicted child molestor around children.

Mark Lundsford MUST forgive John Couey.  It is not an option, it is a requirement, not of man's law, but of God's.  If he refuses to forgive, then he is beyond redemption and restoration.  That is the bottom line.  However, Mark does not have to FORGET.  That would be stupid.  Will Mark forgive?  I hope so.  Will he forget?  I hope not.

In the same manner, we MUST forgive one another for anything and everything.  It does not matter what the crime is.  It does not matter what your feelings are.  If you hold resentment and unforgiveness inside, you are holding yourself prisoner.

Now it's time to hear from those who would misconstrue what I have just posted.  Good luck!

Ok sippy. I forgive you for posting this stupid blog.

Kidding! I agree you must forgive as God commands. If you cannot, how can you expect God to forgive YOUR sins?

Sometimes it is hard, and in the example you gave of Mark Lundsford, I would say damn near impossible. I don't think I could if I was him. Maybe after Couey got the needles I could.

But I also agree if one can forgive, it does not mean they should forget. The saying forgive and forget is nonsense. Forgive yes. Forget never.

I agree that if one forgives, they are not required to forget. Your post reminded me of 2 sayings:

1. Forgiveness is a funny thing: It warms the heart and cools the sting.
2. Shame me once, shame on you. Shame me twice, shame on me.

Easier said than done sometimes. As Frank said in the case with Mark Lundsford, it also would be damn near impossible for me to forgive Couey! Even after he got the needles, I don't know if I could!

Yep, forgiving does not mean forgetting. Gomer Pyle said it well ... "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

I'm sorry if you felt that I misconstrued your last blog about redemption (I was the only reply). Your point about child molesters is well taken ... I too, thought of that and that was the type of thing I was alluding to when I said they "should not be restored to position." Yes we need to protect the vulnerable.

Also, redemption and restoration on one level does not remove the necessity of consequences on another (judicary) level. Do the crime ... serve the time.

dida, I never thought you misconstrued anything. Remember, sometimes I write things for shock value.

Frank and 2wheeler, I'm not sure where I stand on the issue of forgiveness in such an extreme case. Does my failure to forgive another mean that God will lock the doors of heaven on me? Or Mark Lundsford?

I believe that a lack of forgiveness is a sign that a person is not really "saved". After all, God is good enough to forgive anybody of anything. Why would God expect any less of us?

So...
was Jesus a punk?

I doubt his respect for tolerance was looked upon highly. Most likely disrespected by the majority.

Where's the line...

I agree, you can forgive, but that does not mean you have to have a relationship with that person. There are members of my own family that have done things that I've forgiven, but I no longer speak to them. Yes, you have to forgive, but you also have to protect your own sanity. Forgiving and forgetting are two completely different things.

Then you do not believe in the power of love, Goofy.... So sad.

Not a punk, G, Jesus was a maverick! Just like John McCain! God bless John McCain!

Jesus really did believe in the power of love. He forgave all, not just some. Can you do that? If you cannot then you offend Jesus's legacy by calling yourself "Christian".

This is the problem with people. They all want to do good. Most of then can't, but they still want the badge!

I know of you didn't like delicious and tasty Krispy Kreme Dognuts I would not let you into my heaven, let alone want you to call yourselves Northons. How dare you! Go to hell! LOL

Punk as in soft...
I don't think he would last in today's society of hard knocks. What happens when Jesus gets tried? Apparently he takes a whoopin, the disciple crew were non-violent. Does that mean he's p u s sy? Enlightenment outgrows arrogant dominance, so where's the line? Evil flourishes in an environment of tolerance. Doubt he ever threw a punch...
Thats the beauty of Christianity, he died believing in the good of the world.
The world has yet to repay him.

Iraq is nothing but a holy war, the crusades of the day. Our republican conservatives feel they have the will of GOD to convert the infidels (terrorists). We are waging the holy war, not fighting it...

When he got tired ... He slept. And when He was awakened, while on a boat in the middle of a storm, by His disciples, He immediately calmed the storm. That ain't no simple man trick. He then went on to heal a demoniac when the boat reached land.

Is it really disrespectful to NOT pander to false piety? He let truth reign.

So He is not "soft" by any account; gentle YES as in strength under control, but not soft.

Equating John McCain and Jesus as "mavericks" is blasphemous. Read the Gospels in the New Testament, and you'll find that Jesus' idea of being a "maverick" is far removed from John McCain's or any other politician or political party. Jesus' idea of being of "maverick" runs completely counter to worldly ambition and concepts of power and authority. His is a radical ethic that turns our logic and instinct upside down.

When the line of safety is crossed, we must become protector.
The silent majority has drawn the lines,
do you follow? People step up when they feel threatened, Natural instinct. Fight or flight?
Or put faith in the majority thinking/labeling as being soft, and forgive their ignorant decision?

Its always been about today for me, Ive always lived with an obligation to the public, but will never sacrifice my personal ethics.

In regards to the person that made the statement about the 2nd comming. Some folks gets the 2nd coming mixed up with the rapture. The 2nd coming is when Jesus will come back here (on earth) to set up his kingdom here on earth after the rapture has happened. The rapture, God will meet his church ( Saved Folks) In the air when he comes to rapture us out of here.

Great post, Sip. I, too, believe that you MUST forgive EVERYONE for EVERYTHING, no matter what. I've had to do a LOT of forgiving - I could write a book!!!
Plain and simply, God commanded us to Love One Another. However, it's not possible to love unconditionally if one harbors unforgiveness. It's that simple, and I agree that if you hold resentment and unforgiveness inside, you are holding yourself prisoner. No doubt you've heard it said that "You must love the sinner but not the sin".
I think it's our ego that causes us the most problems.

Lose said ego and possessiveness and reside in a state of peace and bliss...

Ok, I think the gorilla has had a bit much tranquilizer, but I agree about forgiveness. Noone get's into heaven by being good, but by being forgiven, and you are forgiven because you SEEK forgiveness.. I don't know, though, Jesus went ape spit on the money changers at the temple and he didn't have many kind words for the Pharisees and lawyers. There are battles worth fighting, but clearly out of zeal and not for personal revenge. Condemn the acts, and not the person... let the person be condemned or redeemed on their own

WHEN GOD FORGIVES YOUR SIN, HE THROW IT TO THE BOTTON OF THE SEA AND EVEN HE FORGETS ABOUT IT. YOU MUST DO THE SAME BECAUSE IF YOU CAN FORGIVE BUT CAN'T FORGET, YOU ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING AND THAT MEANS THAT YOU STILL LIVING IN THE PAST.

YOU ALL NEED TO START READING THE BIBLE.
READ WHAT JESUS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT FORGIVENESS ON MATHEW 18
Matthew 18
Rank in the Kingdom
1(A)At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, "(B)Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

2And He called a child to Himself and set him before them,

3and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and (C)become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

4"Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5"And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;

6but (D)whoever (E)causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Stumbling Blocks
7"Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For (F)it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

8"(G)If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire.

9"(H)If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you It is better for you to enter life with one eye,

Now, Special, I get what you are saying, but let's not be so open minded that our brains fall out. It is possible to forgive and necessary for us as humans to remember. I point to the extreme case of child molestors. I would not allow a convicted child molestor be around children, that would just be stupid. Now when it comes to simple things, like being called a dirty name, then yes, forget about it.
