It seems as though everyone is waiting with "baited breath" for the American taxpayer to bail-out the financial industry and restore stability to the banks and financial markets all over the world.  It is truly amazing to see that the American taxpayer has so much influence on our global economy.

But are these American taxpayers the same workers that major corporations have shunned in favor of cheaper labor abroad, or the same people who have been  extorted by OPEC and foreign oil interests?  How could they suddenly have so much power and influence abroad?

Even in Washington DC, are these the same taxpayers who have seemingly been losing out to lobbyists in terms of having influence on our elected officials?

So how is it that U.S. taxpayers suddenly have so much power and influence all over the world?

Is it really international influence or merely an effort to squeeze the last bit of "blood" out of the American Middle Class?

What middle class...that no longer exists any more! They saw to that fact because there were way to many people to comfortable with their lives so of course they just had to change that fact to suit their own greed and take anything that would be left! Our rights and constitution is no longer active and has been eliminated! We are the working soldier ants that continue to build for the upper class, we are expendable as they haven't proven time and time again within these past 3 years! Like vampires...they have drained us dry!

Borntobewild, it seems as though they aren't satisfied with taking everything that they can. They now want to place us even more in debt.

I can foresee a time when a person will have to pay their individual indebtedness amount before being allowed to leave and/or travel outside the U.S. Kinda like it used to be for people who wanted to leave the Soviet Union.

It is interesting that they have already totaled the amount of indebtedness for each individual that would result from the $700 billion bail-out.

I think if our support REALLY mattered, they would
include a clause that would prohibit ANY of the money
from going to top executives, instead of the crap they added.
I think most of the "common people" simply want to be
certain that the ones who benefited from the making of
this mess, are not going to benefit further, at tax payer expense.
Instead, our illustrious leaders are playing games on our dime.
I say dime, because that's all that's left for us. They are
flipping supporters. The shift volume they claim, is HIGHLY
unlikely during the span of 48 hours. I don't buy it.
They are injecting their own agenda, not ours.

Yes, I completely agree. There are loopholes big enough to drive a truck through. It's amazing how sensitive the Congress and Administration seems to be to the desires of the CEOs, especially considering their small number compared to the number of total taxpayers.

The fact that a CEO who has steered a corporation into failure is even allowed to stay at the helm is disgraceful and should spur stockholder lawsuits against individual corporate board members.

I still haven't seen precisely where the bail-out money is going in terms of specific amounts.......corruption is rampant.

Well here is a suggestion for ya then! How about having a Chairman of the Ways and Means that DOESN'T USE THE LOOPHOLES HIMSELF! Have liberals ANY core ethics at all? Chairman Dodd with sweetheart deals... Chairman Rangle with failure to report his earnings on real estate he makes money on...

MAYBE you Democrats might want to hold some of your own accountable FIRST as an example to others, then you might have a leg to stand on with your complaint.

Corruption is rampant I AGREE! So maybe you should call your Democrats and DEMAND investigations! You certainly know how to do it to any Republican! From WMDs, Juiced Baseball players, Big Oil, Speculators, Valerie Plame, etc.

Don't just talk about it when its YOUR side... step up and be about it then!

Investigations? There have been some and of course there will be some. As far as your partisan perspective, I'm sure that you are aware that there are some Republicans in jail, unless of course they "converted" after getting there.

If Charlie has used an existing loophole, why wasn't it previously closed by the Republican majority? Has he broken the law?

When the Republicans were in a majority in the Congress for 11 of the last 13 years, they probably had the power to investigate anyone. Believe it or not the Presidency and the Congress existed long before GWs reign. In fact, it seems to me that there was a Democrat by the name of Clinton who was investigated.....isn't that correct?

Now why don't you just admit it.....most of them are scoundrels on both sides of the aisle? Do you really want to allow them to print some more money for "bail-outs" of private businesses?

Abunai, You might want to read about Weimar and the efforts that were made to avert disaster.
