Given the increasing amount of influence that lobbyists have on our government and the importance of a strong economy for ensuring a high standard of living for Americans, could it be time to disband Congress and replace the Presidency with a CEO/COO to run the area formerly known as the U.S.A.?

The CEO/COO would be responsible to a board comprised of designees from the largest multinational corporations.

They tried that already and they crusified the man who wanted to run the government like a business, and hold politicians accountable for their decisions...but they went after his family so he pulled out, can you blame him.

I'm not talking about electing a different man/woman as president. I'm talking about altering the structure of the present republic.

The people would be "formally" relegated to their positions as consumers. The illusion of us having a democracy would be put to rest. And the political parties and 41 thousand lobbyists would be eliminated, not to mention the costs of political campaigning for Congress, etc.

lol! Karl Marx could not have suggested a better socialist setup. Lobbiest are simply represent the interest of many. Congress and the House are representatives as well. Maybe what we need is a 4th branch of govt. and incorperate it into the checks and balance system then. Taking out lobbiest is nothing more than squeching the voice of a free republic. We should stop complaining about their influence and strive to counter it with a different voice! The enviromental lobby has been thrown under the bus now with the price of gas, and immigration lobby was thumped hard just a year ago!

silverfox06, i don't think he can afford to do that. Like the rest of us our Government has seen to it that they have all the money and we are left struggling to make ends meet. How are sales by the way?

Abunai, I didn't realize that all of those lobbyists in Washington were representing the people of our country. I thought that our elected officials did that.....my mistake.

BTW, there isn't anything "free" about our "free republic."

silverfox06, very constructive and creative suggestions. Once again, don't deal with specific facts or issues, it is easier to attack the messenger.

41,000+ lobbyists in DC alone......seems as though that is a real representative government.....I just can't quite figure out who they represent. But I guess that it doesn't matter.....as Abunai suggested "maybe what we need is a 4th branch of govt" consisting of lobbyists. The only problem is that it would then be the largest and most powerful branch of government. I'm sure that they could provide the "checks" but I'm not sure about the balances. Maybe Senator Stevens could help us out on that one.

tfromtx, you are right on with your assessment. I just can't figure out if we are better off with a low valued dollar or with a high valued dollar. The assessment by President Bush seems to have changed over time.......and after all, he is our leader isn't he?

Maybe with the lowered dollar we are still better off and he is just foolin us. He always did have a good sense of humor. I feel better already.
