Last night my daughter and a friend had gone to the store and needed a ride home.  As I went to pick them up I listened to the radio.  Apparently, Pearl Jam is now using their concerts to campaign for Obama.  This just sickens me.  I love music.  I wish musicians would stay out of politics.  Do they not realize that they loose fans that way?

After Dave Mustaine (yes, I'm old) decided to cover the DNC for MTV I've had a hard time enjoying Megadeth.  They were always one of my favorite bands.  On the other hand, when asked about politics Gene Simmons (no doubt in my mind a Democrat) told the reporter that Kiss is a rock band and refused to answer.  I have a whole new respect for him.  Yes, I know that most musicians are liberals.  I really don't care.  I don't need it confirmed.  There are a few exceptions, but for the most part musicians know as much about politics as I do about football.  I wish they'd just stick to what they are good at and what they know best.

Pearl Jam? Those filthy traitors! I can't stand it when celebrities get involved in politics, as if they're SO respectable, and all. "Hi I'm Nicole Richie, and I'm a heroin addict, but take my word for it, Obama would make a good President!"

Celebrities are citizens like anyone else, and therefore have a right to hold and advocate for their political views. It's ironic how this crowd rarely crows about celebrities supporting right-wing causes as an "intrusion" into politics. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. In the meantime, the right wing fuming or otherwise, America is the land of the free, where *everyone* has the right to have and express their own opinions, the status quo be damned.

Not saying that they don't have the right to say what they said. I'm only saying that it turns me off to their music that I would probably otherwise like. Yes there are a few (very few) that are on the conservative side of the coin. I'm sure they have lost many fans over it as well. Like I said before, when Gene Simmons of Kiss refused to answer any political questions he gained tons of respect in my mind. I would bet much that he is an absolute liberal. I don't care. I just really don't want to know about it.

Yea musicians speaking out on politics...that helps their careers, just ask the dixie chicks, I bet even after all the millions they made prior to their opinion, they would like to have at least lasted 20 years...but I dont think they will have a chart topping or sellout album for a long time

Please don't place judgment towards all musicians because of a few bad apples that have their own ideas! There has been a number of great hits written and recorded by other great musicians as well; RE: Lynyard Skynyard, The Doors, Country Joe, The Mamas & The Papas, The Zombies, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Grass Roots, Iron Butterfly, and The Byrds...just to name a few! So please don't judge all because of a few bad apples!
