Just curious, but how many people out there are really having trouble affording health insurance?

We had to make that decision about a year and a half ago.  We ended up going for a high deductible (catastrophe) insurance plan for the big stuff and a Health Savings Account for the little stuff.  This has worked out really for us.  Right now my husband's insurance is covered by his employer, but they wanted to charge us through the darn nose ($250.00 + per paycheck - every other week) to cover the two kids and myself.  So I started looking into everything I could find.  I now pay $177.41 per month for the insurance and another $80 goes into the HSA so that when I need it, it's there.  I found a pretty good program through a bank that doesn't charge any fees for the HSA account and also gives me a small (very small) bit of interest on top of that.

Anyway, that is my personal healthcare solution.  It seems to be working out very well for us.  I even am able to deduct whatever I spend out of the HSA from my taxes at the end of the year.

I agree 100% that something must be done. I am very sick and fortunatly have great insurance but it still costs me a fortune to do it all. It doesn't make sense that someone who does work hard all their life and has health insurance can go bankrupt if they become too ill. That is the boat I am in at the moment. My wife just switched jobs and we had to pay 1,500 for two months to keep me covered so we would not end up having to pay 350K later......which we do not have!

The one we use is a private health insurance. I just like private sector solutions better because they (by their very nature) provide for more flexibility and individuality. The plan I have would not be good for someone with chronic illness. It's great for a family with no one really young or old that is pretty healthy.

$1500 for two month is insane!

I signed up for one insurance and paid and paid. Then found out on a tv news expose' that they didn't pay when people needed it. I stopped paying and finally got a job where I have health coverage.
Jobs with decent health coverage are hard to find.
Jobs anywhere are hard to find.

95.00 a month for health insurance. Great coverage and even better network doctors.
Aetna...I'm glad I met ya.

Yes I pay my own health insurance and it is a huge payment .. however it is MY resposibility to supply my own insurance NOT the US Govt or another taxpayer paying my premiums for me.

I also believe no american deserves to handed "free healthcare" ... simply because it is not free.

There are plenty enough options out their that don't require the likes of Hillary garnishing your wages to subsidize insurance for others!
