Budget crunch my butt! I say let the public put up for vote, a wage freeze on salaried govt. employees. local, county and state. with elections coming up, you know the first thing on their agenda will be a pay hike for themselves! we can't vote a pay hike for ourselves, why should they. when they  applied for the job, they knew what it paid. and should be satisfied with that, plus what they earn from their other businesses.I keep hearing them whining about how we will have budget shortfalls because of amendment one. but they still refuse to limit their fat porkbarrel projects. instead trying to squeeze more money out of us. we can't fill OUR vehicles at the govt. gas pumps, we pay higher prices for gas, food, airfare, etc. but can't vote an increase in our pay to keep up with rising prices! why should the politicians? yet they do it every time they get into office! NO MORE!!! let us vote on pay hikes for politicos! NOT them!

Here's a news flash for you, polecatextreme! A lot of people working hard in civil service in this economically tanked-out state are underpaid, compared to the private sector, and have gone without any cost-of-living raises, which are usually modest and don't meet the rises in the cost-of-living indexes, over the past year or two -- and have gone without them many years before that. They're feeling just as much -- if not more -- pain than you in the wallet and are hardly living high on the hog.

It's always the same, public employees are "remembered" when things get tough economically and folks want to reduce taxes. But when everyone is doing quite well, there is little need to notice public employees......consequently they don't get the larger raises like many in the private sector.

And then the public seems to often wonder why more of the best and brightest people are not attracted to public service......such as teachers, etc.

Here's another crunch....some of them have more then one pay check coming in plus more then one retirement check! How's that for a crunch! Funny how our retirement is being used for illegals and they claim we won't have any more money, even though we are still paying, but they are set with theirs without any kind of interference or decrease of fundings...another BIG CRUNCH!

joe, read the article again. I said salaried politicians NOT civil service employees,(such a firefighters, police, mail carriers.) let me know when the last time was that they could vote on raises for themselves! I specifically stated politicians, both local I.E. county and city, and state. who seem to have nothing better to do than spend our hardearned taxes on themselves and their buddies!
