raised crosswalks are appearing in parts of orlando. what micro-cephalic misanthrope came up with this idea. it looks like a cheapo way to combine speedbumps with a regular crossing area. sure it may slow down traffic at intersections, but the raised hump is narrow enough to make it extremely hard for the wheelchair bound to balance on top for the length of the crossing. is this the intelligent thinking we can expect in the future from our D.O.T. (department of turkeys)?

Most of the raised crosswalks I've seen and been on are wide enough for two wheelchair bound folks to pass by each other.

The thing that irritates me about them is in 25mph zone you DO NOT HAVE TO SLOW DOWN to 5-10mph to roll over them, they ARE DESIGNED to be taken at the MAXIMUM LIMIT for the road, 25mph and I loathe getting bhind some jerk that has to hit the brakes and slow down to a freaking crawl over every one of them, it's NOT NECESSARY, maintain your 25mph speed and you're fine!

Funny thing about it I see people driving small cars fly over them (30-35mph) and people in the SUV's and Pickup trucks are the ones slowing to a crawl??? And the funny thing is the LARGER vehicles like the SUV's and Pickups can roll over those things a lot faster than most cars and hardly feel them, yet these are the IDIOTS SLOWING DOWN to a crawl to go over them...Why???

Came to Florida in the late sixties on a bike, lived in Orlando since early 70's, I'm ex-military, still ride a motorcycle.don't intend to let cagers or the congestion stop me. and I always wear a helmet, carry insurance and a piece legally.
