another speeding motorcycle has a fatal result. this morning a (biker) crashed into a car at pinehills& clarcona and died. yes he was wearing a helmet (it doesn't help when you go headfirst into a car) WHY has no one checked DMV on these crashes and fatalities, to see what their driving records were? A lot of the new sportbike crowd is made up of people who have switched to bikes because of the no insurance clause. they received too many tickets for speeding in the pocket rocket cars, and can no longer afford the insurance rates. Soo they just switched to bikes which require no insurance and speed to their hearts content. sometimes in the process decorating the landscape with their bodies. I wish the state WOULD make bike insurance mandatory! yes I ride, and yes I AM insured! MOST responsible riders ARE insured! this would cut down on both the speeding AND fatalities!

That just breaks my heart and makes me furious, too. People who are uninsurable to drive a car should not be allowed to drive ANY motor vehicle at all. Those "BLEEP rockets" need to be outlawed on the streets. There is no good reason why any motorcycle needs to go over 100 MPH on any road in America. I don't understand how we can allow a motor vehicle of ANY kind to be on the road, where it can potentially cause injury to lives and property, and NOT be insured!

I do not like motorcycles. My husband has a beautiful harley. I am afraid to go on it. I am not so much afraid of him driving it, we are fully insured. It's the other idiots on the road that do not watch for a motorcycle. My 20 year old son wants a bike. He wants my help in getting information for him about lessons and other items. I told him NO WAY. I will not help him with this at all. Sorry the way I feel about motorcycles insured or not.

Polecat, you got it right with mandatory insurance. I've had insurance on my bikes since I was well, many moons ago and even after moving here and hearing that it's not required, I still bought my coverage.

Problem with those BLEEP rockets are they're throw away bikes, like a bic lighter. No real value, low cost and serious depreciation after they hit the street. I'll admit starting out on rice grinders in my youth due to financial barriers (like a lot of riders) but the insurance hits home when you invest in a Harley.

I've said it before on here, pocket bikes were made for and belong on a track, not on the street! Still can't believe Florida's sign and drive laws either. The test I had to take for a bike was twice as intense as for my cage when I was 16. Sad to say again, youth feels immortal until they're laid down and get some road rash.

Saying that sportbikes should be outlawed is insanity, just because a small percentage of riders (SQUIDS) ride crazy. You might as well say that Harley's should be taken off the street because only drunk, helmetless, old men ride them and that is dangerous. I ride a sportbike because I love its style, the handling, and reliability. I have yet to meet a Harley rider that is able to ride to work everyday like I do. Rain, shine, cold or heat.
I do have insurance and wear a helmet like a responsible motorcyclist.

I am naturally opposed to the banning of any piece of equipment because of it's misuse. If you demonstrate such contempt for society (all of us)that you are uninsurable in a car, you need your license revoked and jail time for driving afterward. I am sick tired of hearing calls for banning this or that all the time. I can not understand the type of thinking that calls for bans and wants to let the idiots amoung us set the rules for all of the rest of us through their irresponsible and stupid behavior.Punish the individuals that cause the problem not the tools they misuse to do it with

Floridas No-Fault or PIP Law does not apply to Motorcycles However the Financial Responibility law does apply to all motorized vehicles in Florida. Failure to carry property damage and bodily injury liability insurance in case of a crash, DUI conviction, or other occurances outlined in Floridas F Law, CH324, may result in some or all of the following: Loss of License/tag and registration, and /or restitution or civil court judgement, and future proof (3 years) of high risk, SR22 mandatory liability insurance coverage just to keep your Florida drivers license (even if you don't own a car)

It is unfortunate that younger drivers, cars or motorcycles, act irresponsible when driving. Personally I wish they would raise the driving age. With cell phones, and music on headphones, distract young and old drivers. I made my sons wait until they were 17 to drive and even at that they both had accidents as most do when they first start to drive. We loose a lot of teenagers, but I guess there is no answers. I remember though when the kids took drivers ed in school, it seemed like that they did not have much practice behind the wheel, that is why it is so important that the parents spend a lot of time with their children practicing the art of driving and being made aware of their surroundings and obligations as a driver. I had a friend who thought, well my child had drivers Ed, so they must be able to drive, I can't tell you how many wrecks this child had and speeding tickets.

I recently had to lay down my bike(5 broken ribs and a fractured collarbone) because of a careless motorist. Forunately I was not sriously hurt, even though I was not wearing any of the protective gear I normally wear. On this day I chose not to wear my helmet.I was lucky! The other driver was simply not paying attention. Had I been driving my truck I would have severely damaged her vehicle and possibly injured her. Because I was on a sportbike, not wearing a helmet, and under 60 years old I was charged for the crash. So much for 20 years of safe driving record.

Came to Florida in the late sixties on a bike, lived in Orlando since early 70's, I'm ex-military, still ride a motorcycle.don't intend to let cagers or the congestion stop me. and I always wear a helmet, carry insurance and a piece legally.
