I wanted to post about the mass numbers of wildlife rescues we do involving baby squirrels. We have been slammed with baby squirrels and what most people don't realize is that when a nest of baby squirrels is blown out of a tree the momma will come back and move them if they are left where she can find them. Often times people with good intentions pick up the little ones and call us for help or to feed them. It is a good thing we have Venice Rescue and Wildlife Center for that reason. We also rescue water fowl and any wild animal that has been injured.  We need more volunteers who would be willing to give of their time.

Venice Wildlife and Rescue Center Inc is located at 3252 Border Rd in Venice and their hours are 24/7, you can reach the center at 941-484-9657. The official hours are 10 am to 6 pm. however there is someone available  at all times.

I'm simply amazed that this little 6 year old girl was murdered and the North Port Police still haven't solved this horrible case! I am saddened by this and disgusted! This little child lost her life through no fault of her own and it's still a big MYSTERY? Does her short life not matter to ANYONE?

What would she have been if her life wasn't ended so horribly? We don't know and it bothers me that little Jessica's death gets so much more attention. Not that she shouldn't have...she died a horrible death too.

No what bothers me is that it seemed to me the "media" was more interested in bashing her parents and the way the house was kept.

I feel disgusted by the fact that the case still remains unsolved and her poor mother must feel sick inside too.

Rest in peace little Coralrose, and may her mother know that there is SOMEONE out here that still thinks of Coralrose and the tragedy that took place.

Maybe it's just me but I don't understand the importance of having a "gay Pride parade"...Are these folks serious??? Why on earth would AYONE want to be known as a gay pride supporter???

It is against the laws of nature to want a relationship with the same sex. (Other than a platonic relationship)  You never hear or see GAY animals.

Why do these mixed up people feel the need to make a public demonstration???

They must crave attention!

I saw ole Stevie/Susan will be the grand marshall... How ridiculous he looks in women's clothing!

I'm afraid America has lost sight of the values we've held so dear...

At least our military is trying to defend their rights too, the right to hold these demonstrations...to elect who we want and to gather freely....

All I can say is THANK A SOLDIER for their sacrifice so that you mixed up folks can hold this event.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AMERICA!  Be SURE TO SEND A THANK YOU TO OUR TROOPS!

Yesterday the phone rang and it was my nephew calling from Iraq. It sounded like he was just down the street. He had some interesting comments....about the war, the accomplishments they have made and the media. Why is it that we only hear about the horror of our guys and gals dying?  The media never reports on all the good that has come from our military's sacrifices?  The schools and hospitals that have been freed of terrorists, does that not matter? It saddens me to think that the men and women who are over there will not be credited for their achievements. Or even recognized for what they have done.

If the media is going to tell us all the horrors of the war then they should also tell us about the many good things too. Don't let our troops down! Report on the progress being made! Tell us about a young Marine or GI rescuing a child, and try to find something positive to report on instead of how many troops we have lost or how deadly this month has been!

After I hung up, I sat here and cried, thinking about the sacrifices our troops are making and the lack of media coverage on the good.

It makes no difference to me about the way the media is reporting on the war, BUT it SURE matters to our troops.

I hope this post will open some eyes in the media!

Some good news about what our troops are accomplishing would mean the world to them.

First, I want to preface this by stating that I'm not against immigration, but I am against the new bill. And I feel that English SHOULD be our national language. I can't believe there was only one person that raised their hand in agreement. Many years ago, people immigrated to our country seeking a better life. People came from all over the world to live here. They wanted to be a part of our country. These early immigrants were from Poland, Ireland and Italy, and many other countries. Did they speak their native language outside of their social circle? NO. And they didn't expect us to learn their language either. Even the folks from India TRY to learn our language. Why then should we have to choose what language we want to hear our information in? Even at the bank, you have to push 1 for English at the ATM machine. Just call a government agency and again, you have to "choose" a language. This is ridiculous! When people from a Spanish speaking country decide to live here, why should we learn their language? If they want to live in America, they should have to speak our language. And another thing that steams me is President Bush's new plan for immigration. Back in the 60's we Americans were told that more than 2.5 children per family would affect our population in such a way there was alarm. It just wasn't right socially to have a large family. Now President Bush wants to allow mass immigration, 4 per person. What happened to population control? I'm really steamed about this! Where are these people supposed to live? Work? Oh I know, they'll all live in a single family dwelling, with as many of their family as they can squeeze in. And I want to know, do they pay taxes on their earnings? No not if the employers are paying them under the table! No, we need to close our border, stop this immigration, take away their ill-gotten benefits and they'll all leave to return to their own country. America needs to stop giving them a free ride!

Has anyone ever been hugged by a pink flamingo? Well I was at Sarasota Jungle Gardens. I was feeding the big, stately birds when one decided to hug me! Maybe the big fellow or female was expressing appreciation for the feed, yet it singled me out and hugged me with its neck. Other visitors witnessed it too, so I'm not imagining it...the bird had hugged me!

I looked on the web for info on this behavior, but found nothing.

Anyone have some insight on this?

Two thumbs up for the season ending of American Idol! That was a well thought out show. Personally, I enjoyed the past idol winners performing and I loved Jordin and Reuben's duet.

That's what got me hooked on the show. His voice is so smooth and velvety... yes I started voting for Rueben and then Carrie came along...and Taylor Hicks. The soul and bluesy sound really impressed me. So I admit, I LOVE Taylor and it was a great surprise seeing him perform.

We knew she was going to win it though. Jordin has that all American girl next door appeal with a dynamite voice.

Best of luck to a very talented young lady and congrats!

It's about time that Rosie is leaving the View! I couldn't be happier. She is a disgrace to women and her opinions are her own.

Personally I think she is far too negative and she is more controversial than Don Imus. Good bye Rosie! Don't let the door hit you in your arse on the way out!

She says it's her choice, but I think she was canned.

Yes we have freedom of speech, yet I can't help but think she was fired over her infamous remarks.

After having a stroke, little things mean so much. Having a second chance at this thing called life, it, really changes you. Makes you think about what's important- like speeding to get somewhere---What's the rush? Everyone is in such a big hurry!
I guess the stroke was God's way of slowing me down.

I love bike riding with Pip and walking on the beach...and hunting for sharks teeth and shells. I spend most of my time piddling out in my yard and taking care of my critters. We now have a bunny named Bocephus who is a dwarf bunny and he loves playing with Pip.
