Come on in and sit a spell.

The second amendment means it comes after the 1st and the 3rd one follows after it.

I think I will sit a spell. Should I put my shoes by the door. Are you serving coffee this afternoon, or tea? I think I'm alone here. How rude!!! Make me wait too long, and you'll need to supply food too.

What do the words of this amendment mean to you?

Who has the right to bear arms, where can they carry their arms, and under what circumstances may they carry their arms?

It means,"We The People", should be vigilantes?

The people have the right to bear arms. That should not be infringed, ever.

Just because you are armed does not make you a vigilantly. If everyone (or at lease most everyone) is armed, we become a much safer nation. What happens if a bunch of unarmed citizens are sitting down to dinner in a restaurant and the place is attacked and robbed? Those unarmed citizens are at the mercy of the idiot thugs robbing the place. Now let's try the same situation with a bunch of armed citizens. This time the place does not get robbed and the thugs are unable to get away.

Well, as far as I know anyone can carry a weapon if it is in plain view.
If it is not in plain view, it is then a concealed weapon, which requires a permit.

A concealed weapon is legal if it is not loaded.

I am sure signal will correct me if I am wrong!

What the amendment means to me, is that every American has the right to own firearms.

A glaring exception being convicted felons. They have forfeited that right.

First it means Washington DC's gun ban is Un Constitutional. At the time the Constitution was written America had no permanetly standing army. States were allowed militias to defend their borders from foreign intervention. It means that I have the right to own one or as many weapons as I want, to defend my property and life.

washington politicians are afraid someone will try to remove them from office using lead bullets instead of lead pencils. the second amendment means to me Not having to wait for a cop to remove trash from my property.this also reduces court backlogs,LOL

It says, a well regulated miitia. Does this mean only militia members who are part of a regulated or specially trained group?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong. It is one sentence right?

DaytonaFrank read my blog view my photos

It is not a matter of reading it wrong, but rather misunderstanding the context.

When Paul Revere made his famous ride, calling out to everyone that the "Redcoats are coming", who was he calling to?
Was he calling the US Army? Navy? Marines?

He was calling to the citizenry, the well regulated militia. The armed population.
Everyone with a weapon answered that call!
Why is that so hard to decipher?

bibble?

What do you mean Frank? Do you consider the entire population of the United States to be well regulated?

And if the right to bear arms may not be infringed then why are bans on guns allowed?

Taken from REXESMOM: Now let's try the same situation with a bunch of armed citizens. This time the place does not get robbed and the thugs are unable to get away.

????????????????????????????????????????????
Vigilante
–noun
1. a member of a vigilance committee.

2. any person who takes the law into his or her own hands, as by avenging a crime.
–adjective
3. done violently and summarily, without recourse to lawful procedures: vigilante justice.

No not vigilante, just a major deterrent. I did not say that the idiots robbing the place are shot to death, just that they don't get away. It's the right thing to do to help out an establishment being robbed or something else of the like. An armed society is a safe society.

Someone robbing a restaurant full of people? Now you think all the law abiding citizens, carrying guns, aren't going to shoot this nut? Dream on.

Well, by well regulated I meant everyone knew each other, what they had, and thier beliefs.
Thier beliefs were the same. This was a time when the "government" walked and fought along with the people. Everyone believed in independence!

Defend this country to your death!

That was the motto then.

Now it is dis your country 'til we are killed.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms will NEVER be infringed!

The National Guard most likely has it origins in the well regulated militia. A strictly volunteer body only assembling after a call would be too little, too late, and too unreliable. The guard with monthly meetings and 2 weeks refresher during the summer allows for a quick reaction force at home in the event of a man-made or natural disaster. As far as the word infringe used in the right to bear arms, you coulkd possibly listen to arguements all day. Bear in mind that there are those that would argue with a stop sign and it's intent. A 3-5 day wait on the purchase of a weapon, I don't consider infringement. The fact that you just can't rush out and buy a weapon has no doubt saved the lives of many who would otherwise been lost to an angry or emotionally unstable individual. The gun free zones, I consider to be an infringement ( with the exception of air travel ), as criminals are not know to either respect or abide by written law. Anything that disarms the lawfully abiding citizen is infringement and depending on location, and even in this country, little better than a death warrant ! There doesn't need to be gun control laws to the extent that there are. There only needs to be ONE law in reguards to using a weapon in the commission of a felony, FIRST OFFENSE, IF FOUND GUILTY, YOU WILL BE GIVEN A SUMMARY EXECUTION ! I bet crime would drop drastically within weeks of inforcing such legislation. Isn't a safer, for the law abiding, America a sound goal ?

I like the way you think Meb. But perhaps a bit hasty? What if 3rd party DNA was found after the execution? LOL!

I agree though, that if it was overwhelming evidence, and the suspect confessed willingly, they should be executed by firing squad immediately.

Would that be cruel and unusual?

It is called well regulating the militia!

What about bans on the types of weapons we can have. Isn't it infringement of our rights to say we can only carry x number or rounds?

In New York hand guns are illegal, right? doesn't that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms?

Or do citizens have to be in the national guard to own a handgun?

I have always believed that regular citizens have the right to bear arms. I am all for having an armed public that not only fights crime, and fights against outside invasion, but fights tyranny from within as well.

I feel citizens should have a rebellious nature. We should question every act of the government and refuse to be tolerant of laws that are unfair and of leaders that take away our rights or abuse their power.

I have seen quotes from the very beginning of our republic suggesting that many of the founding fathers support this view of the right to bear arms. I have seen quotes from early court cases that agree with this interpretation of the second amendment of the Bill of Rights.

One thing is for sure. The government started abusing it's power from day one. The founding fathers were able and persuasive men, but they were no angels. They knew there was a lot to be gained financially by getting England out of the picture.

Handguns are not illegal persay in NY. Let's just say the militia is a little more regulated there than in other places. I can understand why.
You CAN get a handgun permit in NY, but it is a lengthy process. Believe me, they would NOT be complaining about a 3-5 day waiting period! LOL! There it would take months, or years even.

The US is most heavily armed country in the world. Anyone stupid enough to try to invade us, would be very sorry. We would not be sitting ducks.

The government trying to take away our right to keep and bear arms, could conceivably start a revolution.

The people will not stand for it.

I like sharing ideas and ideals in an open forum. I may not like what you have to say but you can still say it here. I try to be fair. I'll often admit that the positions I support have flaws. I detest bloggers who always base their opinions on their political party's rhetoric and never have an original thought. I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I vote for whoever I think will do the best job of running things. I may be wrong but at least I think with my own brain. I am looking forward to seeing an open debate between Obama and McCain. I think Obama will whip McCain so badly that you wouldn't believe it. I think Rush Limbaugh is the biggest and most dishonest jerk that ever lived. John "New Orleans Deserved It" Hagee is somewhere right alongside him. If you like Limbaugh or Hagee then you're ignorant and you suck. Whatever you think, join the blog! Come and debate! Let the politicians know what the public really thinks on an open forum like mine where free speech cannot be denied!
