The Pizza Pope is having a town built in his own image. With the awesome power of the almighty dollar, Tom Monaghan, founder of Dominos Pizza, has invested over $250,000,000 into building Ave Maria, Florida, a town that is fashioned after his own beliefs in Roman Catholicism.

Some groups are calling the town, "unconstitutional", as there are already restrictions on strip clubs, pornography, abortion, and even town influence on the sale of condoms and other birth control devices, ideals based upon Mr. Monahan's' wishes. Residents say they want to live with people who share their beliefs and think the way they do. Does that sound familiar?

While I applaud their efforts to build a noble and moral society, it is still a theocracy. As one blogger put it, "Monaghan's town is based on fundamentally un-American values."

What do you think? Are cult communities un-American?

Will you still buy Dominoes Pizza, knowing that your funds are supporting a Separatist Community?

I buy pizza because I like it and I'm hungry. So what if this guy wants to start his own town. He isn't forcing anyone to live there. Keep your nose out of his business. It doesn't hurt any of us if he and his friends do this. I certainl wouldn't live there but I fully support his right to do so.

CULT COMMUNITY??? Are you kidding???? I would MUCH rather have this supposed "CULT COMMUNITY" near my neighborhood than a terrorist teaching ground!! It's his money. And, by the way,you state, "Residents say they want to live with people who share their beliefs and think the way they do." THAT sounds more like a "Cult Community"!!! Is there ONLY one religion there? If there is, they ALREADY have a separatist community there!!

It's his money. No one has to live there if they don't want to. I certainly wouldn't.

Being that you don't have to live there unless you want to, I see no issues. Disney's Celebration, though not religiously motivated, has appeal to people seeking a lifestyle and some commonality in the ways properties look and are maintained. It looks like small town America. If rules and regulations are in place in these home divisions and you are planning on living there either abid by the rules or GET OUT !

Well, our country already have those Amish communites, as well as Chinatown, where only Chinese language and customs are practiced, and there's that town in Texas where only Spanish is spoken and written (can't remember the name of it at the moment). Oh, and let's not forget the Native American reservations. It doesn't surprise me in the least that there are still people who want to live in their own little worlds. Their perfect little "utopias". To each their own, I guess. Of course, once they step out of their paradises and find themselves in the real world, they'll be at a serious disadvantage.

The ALCU had a lawyer who stated they will fight it, using the excuse "What if someone needed emergency contraceptives ?". Why these lawyers have the legal right to breath the air that working people need is beyond me !

The "great" city will no doubt have only one pizza available. Can't wait to see if I am right.

Hmmmmm! I think if someone wants to start their own little communist city, maybe they need to do it in Russia or China. I wouldn't live there, and I can't imagine many other people wanting to live there either.

Sooooooo. If I were to start an atheist town, where all other views are given second class status, and chuches and religious objects were banned or regulated, would that be okay?

What if I were Islamic. Would an Islamic town be okay? No pork sold there, big giant statue of Mohammed in the driveway, women "encouraged" to wear head garb...... would that be okay?

It is his money, but does that make whatever he does with it acceptable?

That isnt going to happen either. You have the wrong "hat".

Its his loot, he can do what he wishes. If "you" dont like it, dont move there.

I was talking the other day about winning a big lotto and buying my own island. Only my family and close friens would live there. I really dont see a difference.
If he needs municiple services then he opens up a whola nother can of worms. Then he can be regulated.

Good points, Nut. Still, this may set a precident that can be used to build isolated societies all over America. Don't like America? Make your own little town.

I also worry about the kids that will live there, and the religious pressure they will be under. If a child should decide he/she wants to become a protestant, muslim, or atheist, they will have to do so with a whole town against them. Also, will they suffer oppression for becoming pregnant outside of marriage, for wanting an abortion, or anything else the town sees as immoral?

Nut, every town in the USA is dependant on all of the USA, our weapons, our government, our police, our FBI, our economy, and so on. In that sense, they are supported by our federal government.

Is it fair that they want to have a town that is not based on the same rules as all other towns? Is it fair that, while taxpayers support this town, the town should shun those that do not want to live their particular religious lifestyle?

So what is next? Mecca, Montana? Taliban, Tennessee? NAMBLA, New Jersey?

Don't get me wrong. I dream of a world with no religious nuts, where women are "encouraged" to go topless, and where lawyers are forced to live in cardboard boxes next to the dump.

Should hispanics have to learn english, or should they start their own towns, with Spanish speaking schools?

Don't speak Spanish? Don't like it? Then "abid by the rules or GET OUT!"

Don't want three wives? "GET OUT!"

See where this is going?
This is my country. I don't have to "GET OUT!"

Dr. Pastor Reverend Rabbi Shaman Witch Doctor Northton. Wow, Impressive title. LOL

Take these 2 examples.
1) The Villages
2) Sun City Center
An ordance was passed prohibiting a person from living there unless they were older than 55. Developers have been putting these places up for years.
Gated communities. The list goes on.
I see your point but the only thing I can say is, "if you dont want to be part of it, dont buy a house in these master planned communities".

I like sharing ideas and ideals in an open forum. I may not like what you have to say but you can still say it here. I try to be fair. I'll often admit that the positions I support have flaws. I detest bloggers who always base their opinions on their political party's rhetoric and never have an original thought. I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I vote for whoever I think will do the best job of running things. I may be wrong but at least I think with my own brain. I think Rush Limbaugh is the biggest and most dishonest jerk that ever lived. John "New Orleans Deserved It" Hagee is somewhere right alongside him. If you like Limbaugh or Hagee then you're ignorant and you suck. Whatever you think, join the blog! Come and debate! Let the politicians know what the public really thinks on an open forum like mine where free speech cannot be denied!
