Do you agree or disagree with this statement and why?

It is an obvious fact, all people are made in the same way, that they are equiped with a definate ability to prosper freely and fortunately.

I agree but not fully. Some people with mental or physical disabilities lack the ability to prosper. But where ability may leave some people short, ambition can fill the gap. Recently I was inspired by an artist with autism. His name is Stephen Wiltshire.

His website is http://www.stephenwiltshire.co.uk/

Stephen lacked the communications skills that we take for granted. He's now a highly prized artist and quite successful. If you get a chance to catch "The Human Camera" on BBC America, by all means watch it. And check out his website and read his story. You'll be glad you did.

I disagree, Sheryn.

All people in a free society have the same OPPORTUNITIES to proper.

But each individual has his or her own talents and ABILITIES (or lack thereof).

The statement as written has a tinge of communism to it.

I agree in full...and as much as i hate to i also agree with some of what MMustangg said...

Some of the brightest people in the world have physical and mental issues...

People who cry!!!! that they didn't have the opportunity in life to prosper are the ones who didn't try hard enough .... or just cant motivate themselves to....i need not to hear no sad excuses about family and other problem people may have faced growing up in life....

if i can get to were i stand in life from were i started than anybody can do it...i crossed more road blocks in life than I.75 on new years......And i came out with 4 perfect kids and a great wife of 11 years...and a ocean front home on anna maria island...and not worried one bit about the governments tax dollar bail out....because i cover myself in life ...i don't need them crooks planning my retirement..

sorry if i got of the subject a little..

What I thought the statement meant was that each of us have the same opportunities in life and that each of us has the ability to make our lives whatever we wish it to be. We are all responsible for how we react to what life has to throw at us and whether we prosper or not is up to us.
What stang had to say about people with disabilities is also true but given the opportunity to overcome that disability and to make something of themselves, as the artist Stephen Wiltshire did, is up to each person individually.
The bottom line answer, to me, is that our opportunities and prosperity are up to us.

Leas,

Did you check out his website? Amazing work considering his limitations. I think you can download that BBC America documentary as a podcast on iTunes. It's called "The Human Camera" but what he does isn't just photographic memory tricks.

Hey stang, I've seen his work before. A few months ago, he was a person of the week on World News. His work is wonderful and so intricate.

I think the answer is that anyone can really do anything they set their mind to as long as they have the determination to do it. It seems that people today put so much limitation into what they can and cannot do that they put too much time and effort into lamenting their problems.
Others like Stephen Wiltshire should be an inspiration to start seeking the possibilities instead of focusing on their limitations.

I am in Sarasota and enjoy reading avidly, mostly about historical subjects and biographies. Also have travelled in England and Wales, visiting family and historical sights. I like a good conversation on nearly all subjects and, although I have opinions, am willing to listen to all sides of a topic. I believe in listening and learning so your opinions are always necessary to me.
