I was talking with Welshtaff the other night and he has come up with a terrific Welfare to Work Program.

Take for instance Hurricane Katrina or perhaps the wild fires in California.  Or  all the tornados in the mid-west.  Or in fact any natural disaster where communities have to be rebuilt or revitalized.

The Federal Government should send out call-up notices to anyone who's on welfare, put them on buses and ship them into these location and PUT THEM TO WORK!  If they don't show up or refuse to do the job assigned to them, the welfare check is AUTOMATICALLY STOPPED.  Further, NO EXCUSES ALLOWED.

As long as anyone is on the governmental t*t, they are no longer their own person and no longer able to make their own decisions.  They belong to the government and are entitled to do only what the goverment asks them to do.

Let's put these people to work and make them earn their pay instead of receiving free hand-outs from our tax dollars.

That is a real and true concept Leasheryn!

If one is getting paid every month by the government, they should be ready to do whatever the government needs them to do!

Perhaps they could actually earn thier keep in some small way.

Agreed, as long as they are not caring for young children.

Vit, you're right about caring for young children. That's a mother's job and should be priority but someone should be providing for the family other than the government. Like a father, for instance.
Otherwise if they're receiving government support, they should be earning it.

The Civilian Concervation Corps (CCC), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA),Civil Works Administration (CWA), Public Works Association (PWA), Works Progress Administration (WPA) were all programs of FDR's New Deal, aimed at overcoming the effects of the Great Depression.

For the most part, they worked.

However, too many POLITICIANS learned that sponsoring the continuation of similar programs bought them votes. So, when the recovery was relatively strong, they changed the names and nature of the programs, but refused to cut off the dole.

So you see, it's a good idea to provide help to our fellow citizens which allows them to rebuild their human dignity, but politicians don't give a tinker's damn about human dignity when votes are at stake.

Gee, the New Deal. Something decent from a Democrat? Impossible!

I think the only way one should be paid to sit on their butts is to be born a TrustFundBaby. If you're not so lucky, oh well. It's 9-5 4U.

I'm glad to read Welshtaff is doing much better. Bloggers on the mend is a good thing.

It's my understanding that the programs aimed to help after the depression were meant to end after everyone was back on their feet. It's a shame it had to continue since it only promotes laziness.

Even third and fourth generation laziness!

I am in Sarasota and enjoy reading avidly, mostly about historical subjects and biographies. Also have travelled in England and Wales, visiting family and historical sights. I like a good conversation on nearly all subjects and, although I have opinions, am willing to listen to all sides of a topic. I believe in listening and learning so your opinions are always necessary to me.
