I rarely initiate blogs in the "political" category, but since there is a proposed State Constitutional Amendment on the ballot that has carry over to moral and social behavoiral areas, I thought I needed to step out and risk being accused of hatred and bigotry.

Definitions are the basis for order and understanding in communications and in life.  If we are transparent about our views and the implications of those views at least we know where we agree and disagree. However, when the subtle redefinition of terms serves as the impetus for manipulative change something must be done ... one must take a stand. I do not believe or feel that it is wrong or hateful to state what has been agreed upon in our nation for hundreds of years as a definition ...  marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife.

The following is a clip from Florida4Marriage;

Adults can do whatever they both agree to
behind closed doors, but that doesn't mean
the rest of us should have to see or accept it.

I agree, I've already voted for the amendment defining marriage as one man and one woman.

Ihave a friend who live in Central America and he tells me that the gays there can't understand why the gay in the U.S. want to be married. The whole idea I would guess is to be free of responsibility.

Ditto. BTW-- Canada right now is having to listen in their courts now the rights of Poligamist and Beastiality folks! No Joke! They are using the presedence that they meet the same criteria that the gay community has.. that they are outside of one man, one woman, and if Gays no longer can be discriminated against, then NOBODY can.

The add I see on TV show an elderly man and woman not married but friends that are victim to current laws, and its not being honest. You can assign ANYONE to be your legal rep, via a power of attny, living will, living trust, etc.

"MARRIAGE - A contract made in due form of law, by which a free man and a free woman reciprocally engage to live with each other during their joint lives, in the union which ought io exist between husband and wife. By the terms freeman and freewoman in this definition are meant, not only that they are free and not slaves, but also that they are clear of all bars to a lawful marriage."
MAN AND WOMAN being the operative nouns. Not Man and man, or man and hamster, or woman and bobcat, or woman and woman, or any other obscene combination anyone can come up with. It's really very simple, the way God planned it, and all.

Abunai - you nailed it ... it is opening Pandora's box. Unfortunately, many folks don't think about the implications of decisions they make.

Wow CynPro, we agree on something :)

Those 2 old people on the commercial made a choice--not to get married. That is THEIR choice, not ours. If they want the same rights as married couples, then get married. Don't get the government involved!

When two people love each other be it one man, one woman, two men, two women or whatever, their bond is strong. Who says they love each other any more or any less because they are the same sex? Why shouldn't they be allowed to marry?

I fully agree albie64. They have some common sense.

Sure, vote to have someone's rights taken away. Amendments like this make me wanna puke. Just because a couple of right winged people want to define marriage doesn't mean we as a people should have to vote on it. This is unconstitutional, all men are created equal, even gay men. If they want to marry, who does it hurt? Does a baby die every time a gay couple kiss? (I actually heard someone telling that to a kid)

My baby sitters were gay, they helped raise me and I turned out fine. I'm a good student, good citizen who votes and teaches adults how to use a computer (McCain could benefit from one of my lessons). Why are you voting rights away from people? Might as well deny women the right to choose while you're at it. The government has no right to decide what makes a couple. It's not one man, one woman. It's two people who love each other.

didaskalos: abunai didnt really nail it, while Canada's courts still continue to hear these things most or thrown out because it's outlawed. That man boy love group set precedence for getting thrown out of Canada's supreme court for illegal acts, eh. Actually a lot of what the Canadian courts have been hearing have been about their bann on importing explicit books (not just things like playboy, but novels it's illegal to import gay novels).. That where most of the court fight is, creepy imagination.

Nightmare - it isn't taking away any rights, it is preserving the meaning of words by prohibiting the attempted redefinition of marriage by the homosexual crowd with a political agenda to try and force the acceptance of their deviant (and unnatural) lifestyles... so quit your puking or get a barf bag.

Darkness - Albie64 was NOT saying that we should redefine marriage to suit alternative unions. He said if you want the benefits then they (the old hetero couple) shold get married.

dks - the point is if you redefine marrriage to satisfy one groups particular tastes and grant them benefits accordingly, then where do you draw the line (people and animals, polygamy, etc.)? It is sick and destructive to society.

A "teacher" must first be a learner. Truth matters! The truth will set you free. I've been married for 20+ years and have four great kids. As an adult, I've lived for nine years in West Africa and Europe. I consider myself to be a southern gentleman.
