Ben Stein has put out a movie that accuses academia of hostilities toward anyone who does not embrace Darwinism. http://expelledthemovie.com/

I have been amazed at the ridicule and accusations of anti-intellectualism directed against anyone who doesn't bow down and blindly embrace macro evolutionary theory. You don't even have to mention God for professors to burst into tirades against religious nuts. Rather than dealing with the challenge to their interpretation of the evidence, it seem that they play the religious card rather quickly.

Have you experienced similar hostilities in higher education for rejecting the presuppositional foundations of Darwinism and neo-Darwinism?

Can't say I have, really. Then again, how we came to be on this world isn't nearly as important to me as what we do now that we're here.

Its funny. I seem to remember reading about how the church used to enforce their beliefs on "how things were." You know, little things like "the Earth is the center of the universe", or "the world is flat", or "the stars and the sun revolved around the earth", etc. Those who disagreed were usually arrested and accused of hearasy. They could be jailed, tortured, excommunicated, or burned at the stake.

It looks like now the pendulum has swung the other way, and now the extremists are on the other side. The church is on the defensive.

There are nuts on both sides. As the old saying goes, "opposite extremes have equal effect".

Good point - the problem with the church persecution is that there is no biblical basis for jail, torture, beatings, or death for opposing views. Currently opposing views are debated and those of like mind congregate together. Different groups that have the same "core" belief fellowship together.

If there are major doctrinal digressions or heresy, excommunication was and is a viable option even if the application of that option is not always appropriately applied. Normally that would related to a very specific sin issue when there is no repentance.

There is nothing wrong with strong opinions of both side. It is important to at least have a truly open marketplace of ideas where each position can be evaluated based on their merit by all people rather than the elitist few.

didaskalos, I hope you don't mind, however, I picked a topic of where I hope I don't intrude on my saying goodbye. But before I am able to leave, I have to wait for Fox to release the 3 topics I have remaining, so that I can delete them and then I will be gone. It does no good to point the finger at anyone, only one can take so much abuse before enough is enough and then just move on. But before I do, I wanted to say thank you for the wonderful discussions. You are a very intelligent individual and I am thankful to have read your topics, participate in meaning discussions, and be able to walk away as well with new insight on many things.

Please do delete this after you read it, because I don't want those who just can't stop come and attack your page either.

A "teacher" must first be a learner. Truth matters! The truth will set you free. I've been married for 20+ years and have four great kids. As an adult, I've lived for nine years in West Africa and Europe. I consider myself to be a southern gentleman.
