The other day, I was reading in the East Orlando community newspaper that a company, owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (a.k.a. LDS or Mormons), had purchased some property on S. Alafaya Trail that would allow the completion of the Innovation Way. This article caused me to reflect on the Mormon Church.

My first thought was how the Mormon Church Public Relations juggernaut influences how they are perceived by the community. They produce great commercials that promote family, are known for their clean cut young people who serve as missionaries, and tend to be politically conservative pro-American patriots.

My experience with the young men in black pants, white shirts, riding bicycles and wearing a black name badge does not inspire good feelings. What is it with a young man half my age trying to insist that I call him “Elder So_and_so?” This attempt to gain the authoritative high ground over the unsuspecting person masks the unorthodox, non-Christian divergences of the LDS church’s heretical teaching.

The Mormon Church owning companies reminds me of the Rev. Sung Yung Moon of the cult know as “Moonies,” who did jail time for his fraud, it that he promoted special “marriages” and “family” much like we see in Mormonism.

This leads to the content found in the “subject line.” The reason that Mormons promote “eternal marriage” is because such a marriage is essential for a good Mormon’s role in the next life … to become gods and goddesses where they will rule over their worlds and their spiritual children (produced from the eternal marriage union). This basically makes Mormons polytheists. They teach a form of spiritual evolution to godhood saying that … as we are God once was, and as He is, one day we will become.

What have been your encounters with the Mormon public relations machine and religious double-speak (using Christian language but different definitions of terms) that covers over their dubious origins and non-Christian teachings?

Well, I had started to read the mormon book, until it got to the part where Jesus was just a "prophet", and Joseph Smith was the "real" savior as pointed to in the Old Testament.
I had nothing but laughter after that, and stopped reading the trash.
It just goes to show, anyone can start thier own religion. Especially back then, but even still in modern times. David Koresh.

The Koran is worse. Same premise, Jesus was just a "prophet", but Muhammed is the "real" savior as pointed to in the OT.
Rubbish, both.
Joseph Smith wanted a few more wives. So did Mohammed.
Joseph Smith wanted to marry cousins, and/or underage children. So did Mohammed.
Both had no problem with exterminating those that did not believe the way they did.

And Jesus was not the savior? LOL!
Nah. He was just a prophet! LOL!!!!

I've read, really read, both the Qur'an and the Book of Mormon. It was a painful process in both cases that require pure dogged determination. Good pick up on the polygamy link Frank.

Funny though, that the mormon and islamic books, are both based on the Bible OT, which is also the Torah.
Does that mean all religion began with the Jewish people, and they are actually the "chosen"?

And how many different religions have built on the OT, to further thier own agenda?

In America you can believe what you want. BUTtttttttttt, I have a problem with Mormons who try to run for office like Romney. Because his faith didnt really enter the mix as Gov of Mass, I just have to score him negative with the Pres race. The reason is that in my opinion, if he "falls for that Mormon belief (which is strange to say the least), then I would worry about his life or death decisions. I like Romney and I would vote for him over ANY democrat. But I want someone who will beat Hillary handsomely and that might be Guilani only.

I have a rule that I will never ever ever never vote for an ex Congressman or Senator. THey havent done anything there so they are part of the problem. Like McCain who has guts to even show his face after his Border issue failed in COngress and Arizona is the main entry point for Illegals. What does that guy do all day.

Thompson, I just dont know... he is too slow and calm and good ole boy which might get old. I like his flat tax and plans for the border, but again he did nothing in the Senate.

I would hope to see in the next GOP PResidency, Duncan Hunter as Sect of Homeland Security and Huckelbee as Sectretary of Transportation in some important part and maybe Romney as Sect of Commerce. But that wont happen.

But Pray that Hillary doesnt come close.... I am not good at second languages like FRENCH !!

Lol Truthguys. With Hillary comes espanol, not French!
I would rather have the calm, solemn, Fred Thompson, than any level of SHRILLARY!

Are there any Mormons out there willing to engage in a discussion about the origins and practices of the LDS church?

I have neither pro nor con to speak on the subject, nor do I have the right to judge anyone, that is up to God.

I know people of all faiths and saying everyone follows their religion by the book would unrealistic. I was raise a catholic but I differ on most of the catholic religion.

I believe in God and try to do good in my everyday life, I don't see others by their faith but by there believes.

I have come to know a young women of the Mormon religion and her believes are not much different then mine.

MaterO1: as far as shoot first and never ask questions for trespasser, that used to be the American way until we became a county of wimps, whiners ands of course politically correct.

As far as trespassing on my property, I welcome trespassers, moving targets are always better to shoot at and once target practice is over the buzzards get a good meal.

Just a women’s point of view and no I would not vote for Hillary, but I have listened to Romney speak and at this point he would be my choice.

Guys widen your scope and listen to Glen Beck once and a while.

It has been many years , so my reading from that book and memory is very rusty . I can confirm what Mater has said about them having a closed “Cult “ like attitude and enforcing their privacy with guns (Mormon Acres..LOL never thought of that one)
But I do not remember the references (I did study with them for a short time as a child) any references to “god hood” for members after death....not sure if I am going to start re reading the Book of Mormon , still far more concerned with the very real threat we face from Islam and all of its followers . As I see the “Mormons” they are just annoying ...so far , but who knows what they are up to on that Mormon Ranch of theirs......

RNC, you are right ... the evolution is not found the Book of Mormon which they distribute freely. They have other core literature, "Doctrines and Covenants" and "The Pearl of Great Price" which is the foundation for their beliefs and practices. Additionally, because they have an authoriative "prophet," official church teaching can come through them. That is why at one time they taught that Mormon men had to be polygamist to enter heaven (taught by founder Joseph Smith who had either 19 or 27 wives depending on who does the counting)and then later under prophet Brigham Young polygamy was prohibited and could be the basis for exclusion from heaven.

It is a very interesting parallel between Islam and Mormonsim in terms of their prophets, their holy books, and their polygamist practices of those prophets.

didaskalos...I can tell you that Mormons are very protective over their property and possitions. I live in the middle of them as well and I can tell you that they are strange and don't piss them off. If you are caught trespassing on their land without their permission then look out because you won't see them coming until they are right on top of you with a gun in your face! The church goers are nice but strange. They are very peaceful until they get really mad (Normal enough), they keep among their selves and their kind (Normal enough), their are greatful to those who do for them (Normal enough), but just don't cross them the wrong way because you may start off with one and have a number of them around you in no time (Normal enough). It's funny how the world turns with simularities!

I gotta tell ya...if I caught you trespassing on my land you'd be in a world of hurt too, and I'm not a Mormon. I certainly don't hold that against them. I also have to say that I've met several Mormons in my time. Each and every one was a person I could respect and wouldn't think twice about having over to the house for dinner. They may have ways that seem strange to folks out side their religion, but who doesn't? To me a guy who walks around in a pretty white dress with a pointy hat, a bunch of jewelry, and a golden cane seems pretty odd. As do men in black robes who would rather sleep with young boys because women are off limits, or preachers who drive around in brand new Cadillac's or live in mansions.

Bottom line...are they good people? The Mormons I've met certainly seem to be.

Several years ago I was living in Indiana, and found a very enlightning pamplet at tha Bible book store. It was a foldout, having three pages of various Scriptures from the Bible, also the corresponding verses in the Mormon books that emphaticaly contradicted each other. I asked these "elders", if your book is based on the Bible, then why the contradictions? They had no answer. Next question was, why have a book based on the Bible when you have the Bible. Again no answer. Then I gave them the pamplet, telling them that when they got back and reported on their days activities,(they do make reports to their leaders) that the pamplet would be taken away and they would not be allowed to see me again. My neighborhood was Mormon free for the next three years.

Way to go Merk. There are so many issues with Mormon doctrine that do not hold up under careful scrutiny. It would be better if they quit the public relations manipulation and admit that they are not just another Christian denomination.

Their own book say that the LDS chruch is the only true church and all others who claim to be Christian are of the church of Satan.

In one of my numerous meetings with the young Mormon missionaries (the nice ones that you like Capt Jim), I asked them point blank if that was true. With no wiggle room, and probably to the chagrin of his more experienced counterpart, the young missionay admitted that he did believe that all non-Mormons are part of Satan's church. Interesting how the public image differs so radically from their core teachings.

I my international travels, I have always been intrigued to find Black (as in the racial classification) Mormons considering that it was not until 1978 that they were considered by the LDS Church to have souls and thus be admitted to the brotherhood of Latter Day Saints. It took their "prophet" a full ten years after the Civil Rights Amendment of 1968 to catch on and get his revelation that God loves Black people too.

What is funny is this. Christians teach that " All men can be saved" they just have to believe on the Lord and accept them into their heart and they have a place in the kingdom. Here is what baffels me. Jehovahs witnesses believe only 144,000 will make it into heaven. OK, if I knew that was all that was getting into heaven, do you think I would be telling others, ruining my chances? HAHA

Jack, thanks for the visit. It is never too late to answer the call.

JWs got creative and came up with celestial and terrestial heavens... the former for the early enrollment crew of 144,000 and the latter for the late arrivals. What a joke.
