I am all for gun control ... that is why I had my son take the hunter safety course, to assure that he learned how to safely control firearms. I you know how to properly control a weapon, you will definitely reduce the risk of having an accident :-)

Good for you. I am sure your son got much out of that course, I took it as a kid myself.
If every one believed the way you do, there would be far less accidental shootings, and quite possibly many less deliberate shootings.

That would be gun control I could live with.

That was a very smart thing you did for him and others should follow by example! You are an excellent parent! Thank you for being for gun control!!!!

Great start! Are you members of the NRA ?

Plan on joining soon. My son and I have had excellent times together hunting and shooting. It has been the context for deep, serious, and meaningful discussions. It is great to have a teenager who talks to me and enjoys spending time together. This is much more than I deserve.

It's been my observation that parents pretty much get exactly what they deserve with thier children. You seem to be taking the time to do a hard job correctly

I don't need to be a member of a lobby group to have a gun. Although as far as lobby groups go the NRA has actually helped us keep the right to bare arms, whenever a bleeding heart starts another dumb protest against owning guns.

Your idea of gun control is the same as mine. :)

Gun control is being able to hit your target! My children have both taken gun safety courses. It really is too bad that gun safety isn't a required course for kids, because like DFrank said "there would be far less accidental shootings, and quite possibly many less deliberate shootings."

And for the question you posed Meb, the answer is yes, myself, my husband and my two boys are members. The NRA is helping preserve our freedom to bear arms. Mom and dad are also members by the way! :)

Me too. That's why my firearms are locked in a safe. I have a baby on the way so I can't trust him with it yet. LOL

Education is IMO the best way to do it.

Brenda, there you go girl, great. The NRA tends to run in the family, too few people realize that the rights that they still have are due almost soley to this group. They also fight censorship in the media!

My immediate family are NRA members. My mom and sister aren't. My kids attend JAKES for fire arm safety and instruction. We also take them shooting at the range. I prefer archery, so I wish I could get them to take interest, but, they prefer guns.

Rexsmom, why not propose a crossbow ... quieter, yet keep that gun and trigger feel?

I'll talk to them about it. My son isn't quite so against the idea. My daughter really likes hand guns. My son would shoot a .22 all day, if I had the time to sit with him.

I agree with BrendaG about gun control. As we all know the law abiding citizen with a gun is not the one commiting crime, or doing the drive bys. It is great you have taken the time
to send your children to gun safety class. And they will appreciate you more the more you spend time shooting with them.

The reason I am commenting here is because I think it unlikely that someone else will dig this deep into your archives.

Regarding this posting, my ears ring constantly, to this day, from the time spent on the high power range my dad had on our place East of Tampa. In those days, ear protection was not much emphasized.

Your answers to bluehorses were excellent. You seem to be well grounded in your knowledge of Scripture and, I expect, in your faith. With that supposition, I wanted to offer the possibility of more direct correspondence through arkyohay.7@juno.com. Read my profile and see if you are interested. Either way, after you copy my address, please delete this comment to protect my privacy.
