The Daytona Beach City Council has finally got those magnificent palm trees in place on A1A (Atlantic Blvd). I have noticed the massive amount of visitors standing on the side walks just amazed that there are palm trees in Florida. (in the middle of the street too)

Only problem is they are complaining about the total lack of convenient parking . I think a better approach would have been metered parking along the "strip". They could have designed the meters to look like little palm trees if they wanted trees so bad. Now theres something the tourist would remember!

Then there is our wonderful unused Pier. I am so happy no one goes there it might spoil the aesthetics of our magnificent beach (empty) as is the Band Shell, Hotels, and the Condo's. This way we all can go use the pier in Flager (full). Share the wealth!  I know it looks good in those pictures though!

Then there is the pleasant Daytona Police Dept. You know the ones, the only time you see them get out of their cars is when they go to eat in a restaurant that  gives them a discount. Try saying hello, or asking them a question (they get pretty ticked when you interrupt their important conversation between themselves in front of Starbucks). Kudos to those motorcycle officers that felt it necessary to save the city money and adjust that windshield at the bus station. The exit was great guys, careless and reckless, nice show and example!

Thats it for today. LOL

Well, don't even get me started. The city set out to destroy everything Daytona Beach was famous for. A family destination.
They siezed property and businesses from people that have owned them for generations, and sold them to a private developer. This developer is now rapidly backing out, after they tore down most of the boardwalk, and surrounding buildings. Empty lots, crudely fenced, and will remain that way for who knows how long. Maybe permanently.
The familys that have been coming here for generations will no longer come.
The city wanted to see two huge towers go up there, as they are so greedy for revenue. Instead they have destroyed the only draw for familys to come here, and created a ghost town. Also, they are losing revenue from the businesses they destroyed.
I am glad. I predicted right from the start that these monstrositys would never be built, and it is looking like I was right.

They destroyed the very heart of Daytona, not just for the tourists, but for the residents as well.

But who cares about the residents, right?

Amen! I am glad that I am not the only resident of Daytona that is able to look into the future. I have written the major colleges to possibly have graduate students do their final thesis on Daytona Beach,"Exactly What Not to Do!"

This city's officials have been a study in inefficiency, crowdedness, self serving venues and complete total disregard to efficient city planning.

They have all but driven out any revenue producing events. The monstrosity, that now graces the river instead of the old park meeting grounds of bike week, is an abomination. This building stands as a monument to the old guard and one of the controlling families of the county.

I have watched as plan after plan has gone by the wayside. I have seen the construction of an already dead convention center be enlarged to 2 times it size. I guess the reasoning is it can now fail in 1/2 the time it took the old one.

THE (singular) parking garage constructed in front of the only remaining amusement spot available (A water park at the beach?!? LOL! sorry)Ever other available parking spot marked tow away, no parking, no walking, no talking or anything else that may resemble a vacation spot.

Fun sorry thats out, JUST RESPECT is in! (Bows to the Daytona Police might be in order, but then you may be arrested for resisting arrest WITHOUT VIOLENCE. How you do that is beyond my comprehension!)

The handwriting was on the wall when the largest roads into the beach have no business on them but Seabreeze, (one way) out of the area has all of them. Tell you anything?

Yes, for all you died in the wool city council lovers, I know: "IF YOU DON"T LIKE IT WHY DON'T YOU MOVE!" Great answer but I already heard that one. Please come up with something new. Thank You!

So much for "The worlds most famous beach".

They need to change that to "The worlds most forgotten beach".

I happened to be out with some friends today and we were talking about the condition of Daytona. I thought I would share just some of the comments.

ISB,(92) a major ingress to the beach area has the shopping mecca centered in the vicinity of Daytona International Speedway. The area leading to the track and its surroundings are inundated with Strip Malls, Motels, Hotels and Restaurants. Proceeding east, pass the track, their is the New High School, Halifax Hospital,DBCC and Bethune Cookman College.

The area begins to become more "ghetto" like as you get closer to the beach. The store fronts after you cross US1 are either Thrift Shops, Junk Shops, fronts for the Salvation Army or generally run down, non- maintained facades of a time well passed and forgotten.

Once you cross the bridge and enter the completely forgotten time zone the disaster gets worst. There are now concrete barriers where a building once stood at the end of the bridge, a massage pallor, a few non beach related businesses, some badly maintained convenience stores and gas stations, several bars, two gentleman's clubs, and several vacant buildings. (Vacant for over 2 yrs.)

This, my friends, is what a visitor to Daytona experiences before reaching the beach. How often would you come back to drive and park on the beach, stay in the run down hotels at premium prices, frequent the lack luster cuisine restaurants, be accosted by time share sales people on every corner, block and restaurant you frequent? Me, I will go to Orange Beach, Alabama. (PS:I am a damn Yankee too)
