I have roots in the Southern States. I do agree that they do have the right to fly the flag, it is their right as a citizen of the United States to do so, but such a large flag does promote controversy. I have a Confederate flag, but my flag is the true confederate states flag. The flag that I fly is not the “stars and bars’ or the “southern cross’ as the one on display. The one I fly looks very similar to the US flag. It is called the First Confederate States Flag. (google it) Yes there is new evidence that the Civil War was not fought mainly over slavery but foe states rights these days it is hard to debate the issue. The reason is that too many were taught in history class that it was fought mainly over slavery. Either way slavery in any form is not acceptable. We can spend hours debating a war that was a tragedy for both sides. Another thing is that some hate groups have adopted the flag as a symbol of hate, which is a reputation hard to live down. I think a compromise should be reached.
