There is no reason for the prices of gas to go up so much before and during the weekend.  People panicked because of news reports that the prices would go up, thanks to Ike.  I know of one station in Apollo Beach that was limiting to 10 gallons... Friday AM!  I know of one station in Brandon that had a big sign out listing Regular at a very low price. .. $3.57.  People got in line, only to find the pumps not working, forcing people in line to fill up with medium or high test.   A coworker who lives near the station saw them put the sign up, drove home to switch cars, and found the "switcheroo"! My BP gas station, on Habana and Sligh, raised the price of regular to nearly $4, and the other grades are over $4!

As Suntan Christ said, there is plenty of gas available... no reason for the outrageous prices.  If the prices go up, it should not be for a few weeks, until the damage is assessed.  REPORT YOUR LOCAL GAS STATIONS!

I agree completely and will not patronize these stations.

"I...will not patronize these stations."

THAT is exactly how you combat the problem.

The reality is that there is NO SUCH THING as "gouging". If you disagree with me (and I know that most of you do), I challenge you to DEFINE "gouging".

The only thing that "anti-gouging" laws accomplish is that they create and exacerbate shortages.

Floyd, yes, there is no real definition of gouging in reference to cheating people out of things... "usery" would be a better word, but... most definitions have to do with "art", for lack of a better word... charging exorberant money for the use of certain goods, money/loans.

Imposition; cheat; fraud; also, an impostor; a cheat; a trickish person. [Slang, U. S.] [1913 Webster

Boycotting the stations will not really solve the problem... they need to be reported! I saw a Citco station on Hillsborough and Rome that was charging 3.99 for regular! The FOX featured Shell on Kennedy and Howard had regular today priced around 3.80... with the Marathon across the street a few pennies lower. My BP station? No change, but BP is notorious for being the last to get into the loop.

What I don't get, right before Ike the gas went up. Now as I see it, that gas was the same shipment prior to Ike, so no need for the gas to go up, except of the fact that panic equals sales. So, with oil being at a low $99.00 after Ike, why is gas still higher than pre-Ike??? Driving from New Port Richey to Tarpon Springs, I see prices varying from $3.65 to $3.85, the exact same prices I saw the day Ike hit Texas.

aschelan... The guy at my station, when I filled up today, apologized for the hike. They never hit the $4 price for regular, but were told to do so. The manager refused! He did raise the price a bit (or be ired), but has since lowered it to almost what it was the day before the Ike problems.
