It is a sad thing to watch when trained, disciplined athletes lose their tempers and behave like petty thugs. Fights like these, in which weapons (helmets, crutches, cleats, etc.) are used against another person should be considered criminal. The law should not end outside the main gate to a football field. Assault charges should be filed on many of these players. If there is any uncertainty as to who should be penalized and to what degree, use the instant replay. Dozens of HD cameras, better than any old convenience store security feed, can help.
A slap on the wirst will not do. If this behavior is not nipped in the bud, the next such fight may have more regrettable results.

I'm with you 100%. It was shocking to watch. NBA players who attack fans should be thrown in jail too; not just suspended for a few games! It's ridiculous.

I think it’s a shame the way the football player’s act these days! They dance around the field like they just won the lottery….I think they all should have been fired and the ones that were left had their scholarships taken away. We need to demand good sportsmanship from our players or this will not be the end.

Regretfully, when it becomes time to reprimand college athletes a double standard is usually applied; just as in the case of professional athletes. I agree they should receive more than a slap on the wrist when they are found guilty of poor conduct, and all the more so when it comes to professional athletes. The punishment should be immediate and severe. Only in this way can these few privileged individuals understand their status does not afford them the freedom to behave irresponsibly. More to the point, the fault really lies with the owners and, or organizations. This is why the punishment of athletes whose conduct was less than admirable has always seemed insufficient. Owners/organizations make large sums of money from the fans, and many fans are often willing to forgive and forget the poor conduct of the members of their favorite teams. The owner/organization should be made responsible for the behavior of its members. They should be made to pay an outrageous fine every time an athlete’s punishment does not fit the crime. They need to be responsible by insuring the people they hire aren’t just talented athletes, but stable minded individuals as well, and they should indoctrinate all team members in a conduct that best represents their company/school. In my opinion, the conduct of athletes today on and off the field is representative of the values of the organizations they represent.
