Okay, so here we are all thinking that this stimulus rebate is a big deal. Supposedly we are getting $600 per single adult, $1200 for married filing a joint return and an additional $300 for each qualifying child, right? WRONG!
I got my rebate last week on the last day of the schedule for that particular round, which happened to be the first round of rebate checks sent out. Now here's the thing......
I have 3 qualifying children and filed a joint return and the total house hold income was under 30,000. So, I should have received a total rebate of $2100 but that isn't even close to what came.
Sure I got the $1200 for the joint return but I only received $100 for each child bringing the total rebate to $1500. This is a far cry from the $2100 I should have received.
But wait it gets better......
What I actually received was little more than $700. Yes I did call the IRS to check on this and I will receive no more that that little more than $700. Why you ask? Here's why.......
Apparently there was some kind of outstanding debt that the IRS would not explain that sucked up just over half of the $1500 and yet there were no such debt or deductions taken from my original return earlier this year.
Strange indeed but you can't argue with the IRS so here I am counting on this supposed stimulus rebate that I have already promised out, because we were guaranteed this money, all of us. I certainly am not in the habit of spending money before it hits the wallet but being told that i would definitely receive this amount and believing it to be true, as it's all over the news and internet, I did.  Now I am finding myself scrambling to make up the difference.
So before you all go and get all excited and start planning how you are going to spend this so called rebate I suggest you wait to see what actually comes. Chances are that it will be a great deal less than what you are expecting. IMO THE WHOLE THING IS A FARSE.

Allocating funds out of our stimulus checks to pay for what I wonder? So when next tax year rolls around and we have to disclose our stimulus amounts on our tax returns are they going to clip us for the amount it was supposed to be before they garnished it for their supposed outstanding bills?

A farse? Doubt it, though it might be a farce, as the English language puts it.

The first "tax rebate" was a farce back at the start of George W's presidency. He doled out $300 a pop, and the next year, everyone's tax return was $300 less. Funny how that works, isn't it?

As for spending money before you get it -- even if "it's been all over the television and the Internet" (so is plenty of rumor-mongering, urban myths and other such nonsense) -- a fool and his/her money is soon parted. Common sense says, "don't count your chickens before they hatch" and "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Spending before getting is precisely why so many people are facing home foreclosures and crushing credit card debt in the USA today.

Here's an easy rule: Don't have it? Don't spend it. Think it's coming you're way? Wait until it does. Then you'll avoid a whole bunch of misery.

Very true sensiblejoe. Didn't create misery though, just a minor set back is all.

My wife and I did NOT plan on getting anything.
When we got a deposit for more than we even thought, we checked, and it was correct.
Now that we have the money (That we didn't actuall plan on), it should just about cover the GAS for our vacation this year.

Mine is supposed to be deposited into my checking account (in the correct amount) on Friday. I'll let you know Monday if it actually materializes or not.

I went to the IRS website and that is what it was showing.

Can't say one way or the other what if anything I will be getting...my 07 tax return is still being processed and may never be complete , it turns out that if you are a co owner in a company for a portion of the year and sign away your rights to that company...and then the owner dies (LOL) while owing money the IRS gets real confused...I ether owe them about $10,000 (but they will not disclose any account information about the company because I am no longer on the documents of incorporation) or nothing...and you thought filing your taxes was complicated.
Of the people I know who have received rebates so far I have not found any shortages but I did hear that rebates are “income based” just like the EIC so the highest rebate would go to the middle of the scale income bracket IE: you get squat if you make to much or to little...if its true I would like to see the scale. And see what uncle sam calls “middle income” this year (for the EIC it is exactly $28,500)

I am with you Cat I went online to the IRS calculator and it told me that I was getting 900 and needless to say I only received 600. I had one qualifying child. The IRS are scam artist.
