Tornado Watch until 5pm including Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and Lake counties serves a big heads up on day when most people will probably be thinking about other things than the weather...PLEASE include checking the radar here on the website as part of your plans throughout the day.
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman has kept the Slight risk area for severe weather today outlined starting just to our north and including the rest of the state of Florida. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html
From everything I am seeing on the models, and more importantly the timing of the cold front moving into our area...the set up today is ripe for potential severe thunderstorms that could rotate.
That means tornadoes could develope today off of thunderstorms and leave you with very little warning to seek protection with you family.
Looks like it will be quite for for several hours but check back FREQUENTLY today to look at the radar and check for any warnings that might be issued today.

So whats going on in the sky tonight?
I'm seeing streaks of falling stars from east to west.
Or is it space junk?

wednesday and thursday mornings will be our two coldest mornings so far this fall/winter.
look for wind chills in the low 30's in the metro, and as a result a wind chill advisory has been issued.
the actual temperature will be near the record low of 36 set back in 1951. i am forecasting a low of 38 pre-dawn wednesday morning.
look for a hard freeze north and west of the villages, and there are freeze warnings up in those counties.
with this cold weather the skies will be a beautiful blue, and there will not be any rain or clouds close to us for several days.
layer up and turn on the heaters!!

Once again Glen has predicted a most Fabulos Sunshinie Day! 11/5/2008. Again this Guy needs to be FIRED. His inacuracies to weather forcasting continue. Pay somebody else 70k a year to at least have a better percentage of getting the forecast RIGHT. Seriously it will always be the opposite of what this Guy says.

no good rain chances in the forecast the 7 days, and even at that i am going with a 20% chance on sunday.

I'm not sure, but I think I may have "outrun"
a tornado Thursday. At 5:23pm, I was on Minnesota Ave, almost to Kepler Rd, and it started hailing like crazy. The wind felt like it was going to turn my truck OVER! I looked in my side-rear-view mirror, and the sky
was an ugly purplish black, with an odd yellow tinge. As I approached Kepler Rd, rain and hail started hammering the ground and lightning was striking all around. I high-tailed it to Lake Helen, but I couldn't get away from it. When I pulled into my driveway, my massive oak trees were bending in every direction, and when I got out of my truck to run inside, I could hear a low, hissing whistle. It was an eerily familiar sound, from when the tornadoes struck Daytona Beach C.C. down the road back in January of '07. We had limbs down, but no other "evidence" around Lake Helen or DeLand of a tornado actually "touching down." THANK THE LORD!

Long before a severe storm approaches, dogs can be seen pacing, panting and acting in an agitated way—even though skies are perfectly sunny. Is it possible that he has a sixth sense when it comes to predicting storms? Or is there a scientific explanation? While no one can be 100% certain, it's likely that some dogs know a storm is brewing because they hear it, smell it, even feel it, long before we do.
With their keen ears, canines can hear at much higher and lower frequencies than we do. A dog can hear a faraway rumble of thunder that you might miss. In addition, a dog's nose is so sensitive, it can detect odors a billion times better than humans. Yes, a billion! Since lightning ionizes air with the formation of ozone—which has a characteristic metallic smell—it's possible that dogs detect this odor, or some other odor, associated with the storm.
Dogs are also more attuned to changes in barometric pressure than humans. A drop in pressure signals that conditions may be right for a storm to develop. So a dog may learn to associate the feeling of a pressure drop with the arrival of a storm.
Some researchers even contend that dogs can sense the vibrations caused by thunder through their feet in much the same way that Native Americans would put an ear to the ground to listen for the distant rumbling of herds or tribes approaching. It is not inconceivable that dogs are able to pick up vibrations through their feet and limbs.
While it's fascinating to think our canine friends could have telepathic powers, science can find no evidence to prove that. But anyone who has spent time with a dog knows that they have extra-perceptive senses of touch, hearing, and smell.
This is a Fact, you can watch insects too... Ants will build up the sides of their Mounts before Big Rains,,,,

we are starting with a lot of the light scattered showers this morning. this is because of low pressure coming in from the gulf and yucatan. it will likely be with us all day today so rain gear will be needed throughout the day.
most of the morning showers will be just light and not that heavy, but a few showers will bring brief heavy rainfall for the morning commute.
rain coverage comes way down for wednesday - friday. however the upcoming weekend looks like rain chances will be back up to around 50% - 60%.
sub tropical storm "laura" is still out there and moving northward so it is not a threat to the us coastlines.

sub-tropical storm "laura" is out there in the northern atlantic and forecasted to stay in the north right now. we do not expect it to turn southward at this time.
kyle also still churning away will keep ripping up in the north atlantic and be gone from nova scotia here shortly.
tuesday will bring another round of thunderstorms and then we should see much lower rain coverage from wednesday through friday.

first the forecast...
muggy, cloudy day with a high rain coverage. 60% of the area will see thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon and early evening hours. some of you will see mid-morning and midday thunderstorms as the atmosphere heats up.
rain chances come way down and even the high temperatures will drop to mid 80's by the middle of the week and stay there through the upcoming weekend.
now the fun....
thank you to everyone who came out to support the florida sheriff's youth ranches at sheriff ben johnson's battle of the badges this weekend in new smryna beach. my band had a wonderful time playing there again this year, and i had a great time fishing again with the sheriff.
check out my new profile pic and that is one of the two monster redfish we caught saturday. mine was a 20 lb red, and the sheriff caught a 24 lb red.
if you want to catch fish like that then call my friend captain dennis cox at 386-299-7675. for two years in a row he has had us pull out 20 lb reds in two completely different locations. this captain will get you on the fish!!
have a great week!
