Fox trumps Netroots; bloggers rebel

The nation’s top Democrats are suddenly rushing to appear on the Fox News Channel, which they once had shunned as enemy territory as the nemesis of liberal bloggers.

The detente with Fox has provoked a backlash from progressive bloggers, who contend the party’s leaders are turning their backs on the base — and lending credibility and legitimacy to the network liberals love to hate — in a quest for a few swing votes.

In a span of eight days, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY.) and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean are all taking their seats with the network that calls itself “fair and balanced” but is widely viewed as skewing conservative.

With the party’s presidential contest reduced to hand-to-hand combat, Democrats are turning to the ratings leader among cable news channels in a clear rebuff to the liberal activists known as the Netroots.

Markos Moulitsas, founder of the leading liberal site Daily Kos, told Politico’s Michael Calderone: "Democrats are being idiotic by going on that network.”

Ari Melber, the Net movement correspondent for The Nation, told Politico by phone that progressive activists and the Netroots are “not happy about it.”

“I don’t think that it is tenable to completely neglect or ignore what your base wants,” Melber said.

The Democratic leaders’ new openness to Fox reflects the liberal left’s diminishing power, at least at this point in the political cycle. Once feared by the Democratic candidates, these activists are now viewed at least in part as an impediment to winning the broad swatch of support needed to clinch the nomination.

Goaded in part by a taunting “Obama Watch” clock displayed by Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace, Obama appeared last Sunday after resisting the show’s entreaties throughout the campaign.

Clinton had a civil interview on Wednesday night with primetime host Bill O’Reilly, who has often mocked her husband.

And Dean will appear this weekend on “Fox News Sunday.”

Roger Ailes, the president of Fox News, took the boycott in stride, commenting that more Democrats watch Fox than watch CNN or MSNBC, the channel’s cable news competitors.

Network records show that since the campaign began in January 2007, Clinton has given 13 interviews to Fox News anchors and correspondents and Obama has given 10.

Why do you think these top democrats are choosing to appear on FOX Newschannel?  Is this good or bad for their campaigns?

What are your FOX Newschannel feelings?

Ratings ,,,PURE and SIMPLE..
They both NEED votes to break this stalmate and END this torrent of abuse that the candidates have been giving each other..And there's CONSTANT pressure from within the Party to have ONE of them Drop Out..As NEITHER of them has a CLEAR CUT advantage it's TIME to make Nice with the MAJORITY of Americans..
IMAGINE THAT.......Fox IS the highest rated News Source the last time I heard..

The moderates and swing vote's are going to take this election. Where as no one really sees any democrats swinging over to the republican vote, there is definitely a chance of the opposite happening. That is why Democrats are going on Fox News in my opinion.

NOT entirely True there Sage..In the case of EACH of the Democrat Candidates it has been reported for months now that Whichever one of them wins Supporters from the other Democrat Candidate will vote for McCain..The Percentages vary from as low as 12 to as high as 18% in EITHER case..

I know many democrats that say if who they want to win does not, will either stay home or go McCain.

Hillary and Obama continue to attack each other and GW, who, I guess they haven't realized it yet, ISN'T RUNNING!!!

What is the saying about when the enemy is destroying themselves, don't interfer!!!

I believe that the Democrats have listened to the Republicans and feel somewhat sorry for them not having a viable candidate. They are attempting to familiarize Republicans with their positions, personalities, etc.

The Democrats are demonstrating that they are truly willing to work across the aisle and it could result in both parties coming together into one happy family to unite instead of divide our country. Even Billy Oreilly seems a bit shocked and lost for words at times. The other night he admitted to being very much like Hillary Clinton.......not sure exactly what he meant, but interesting nontheless.

But when all is said and done, will Abunai and RNC08 truly decide to campaign for the Democratic candidate? LOL

"The Democrats are demonstrating that they are truly willing to work across the aisle"

Yeah,,They'll work to infiltrate and they'll work to corrupt but THAT'S it..The Democrat's Idea of Comprimize is that THEY get everything that THEY want and the other side of the aisle can kiss their backsides..

Unfortunately,,there are TOO many RINOs willing to DO JUST that,,INCLUDING the Present Republican Candidate for President..

Willing to reach across the aisle? I don't see it that way. I just think they're simply trying to get as much exposure as possible. They know that a lot of people watch Fox News, and they also want to cut off the accusations of being cowardly for not appearing on it before. Now they can say "See? We went on Fox News. We're not cowards, so stop calling us that."

Besides, the Republican candidates have all appeared on news stations that catered more towards the Democrats anyway, so fair is fair. I didn't hear any of the Republican supporters complain about that. Then again, the majority of news stations lean towards Democratic ideals anyway, so its hard for a Republican cadidate to NOT appear on them.

Democrat supporters are angry with them for appearing on Fox News? They want to throw a fit and not support them? Good, less votes for them.

There is so much that each political party could learn for each other. For example, Hillary admits that her vote supporting military action against Iraq was a mistake. George II might not agree with her, but perhaps he could learn to admit a mistake once in a while.

The amount of partisanship and tireless use of talking points seems to exist equally in both parties. Since the parties mirror each other in that regard, the members should look at each other to get a clearer picture of the futility of such activities and the harm that it is doing by dividing our country.

For example, many partisan individuals cannot discuss any issue without bringing up political parties. From that point on the issue is obscured. Important issues confronting our country get lost in partisan political activities and talking points.

Democrats are angry at Republicans, Republicans are angry at Democrats......who really cares?

FOX has a reputation as being one of the least biased media sources. Maybe the Democrats believe that this will help their image ? My take is quite simple on this though, the Democratic platform is much like a train wreck, put a fresh new coat of paint ( spin )on it to make it appealing. I'm not readily impressed by shiny, because in this particular case all you have is a shiny trainwreck with a fresh coat of paint !

Meb452m, does that reputation extend beyond those who watch Fox News? I haven't seen any evidence that it does......maybe some objective measurement of some kind?
