CAMPAIGN 2008 Crist says he's OK with Dem do-over

But a spokeswoman says the statement is not an endorsement, because money is tight.

From staff and wire reports

March 3, 2008

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said Sunday that he would support a repeat of the Democratic presidential primary so the state's delegates can be counted at the party's national convention.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said he's open to the possibility.

Primary elections are paid for by a state's taxpayers, so the offer from Crist, a Republican, is "very helpful" because money is an issue, Dean said on CNN's Late Edition.

Later Sunday, Crist spokeswoman Erin Isaac told the Orlando Sentinel that though the governor supports seating Florida Democratic delegates at the party's convention this summer, he did not commit the state to paying for a redo of the Jan. 29 primary, declared nonbinding by the Democratic National Committee because the early date violated party rules.

"He supports seating the delegates, but he's not saying how it should happen," Isaac said.

The DNC has suggested that Florida Democrats hold caucuses before mid-June that could be used to decide delegates. But such an event would cost about $4 million, with another primary topping even that price tag.

Florida taxpayers paid for the Jan. 29 election, but with the state budget facing cuts because of the weak economy, state officials have said they would not help underwrite a Democratic do-over.

On Saturday, the bulk of Florida's 210 delegates to the national convention in Denver were named, based on the results of the primary, won by New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Would you like to see to see a re-do of the Democratic primary?   If so, would you want the January 29th results to count or would you want to re-do the entire election from start to finish?

What? you mean the Democrats finally realized they need Florida's votes and we are more significant than first thought? I say use the votes we got on the 29th, I certainly don't think Florida taxpayers should pay double because the Democraps decided we were insignificant the first go around.

They're the ones that screwed it up. They want a "do-over", they can pay for it out of their own pockets. I didn't vote for any of them, I don't see why I should pay taxes for their mistake.

If there is a do over then they need to bring everyone back into the picture, not just them. I'll go for that with everyone (Romney, Rudy, Paul, etc.)

I don't see why we should do anything over! They are the ones that didn't want our votes, and now they can lie in the bed that they made!

If they do decide to do a do over I will boycott it and the DNC should foot the bill! We the taxpayers should not have to pay for the stupidity of the Democraps!

I don't want to pay for one that is for sure, they had a vote and Hillary won by a landslide soooooooo she should take her “zero” delegates and shut up . What I am wondering (democrats are such idiots that they let half there vote come from an elitist group of Marxist proletariats) ..do the Super delegates from Florida count ?

Yeah as if we Florida taxpayers have unlimited funda.
Sounds like Crist is a closet democrap himself.
What a piece of work Crist is. I'm sorry to say that I even voted for him. He is a sorry excuse for a governor.

The Orlando Sentinel had an article about our legislature and the financial issues ahead, tiyled something like : A Bumpy Road For the Florida Legislature. Being that politicians are the minority, I'm a little more conserned with the general public on the whole. As far as the politician's road, if it had a bunch of voters steering them in the RIGHT direction with pitchforks that would be fine by me. I think they would be inclined to do a better job if they had a little more to fear than a few bumps !

To be fair to the taxpayers and the Democrat candidates, I say no to a do-over funded by the taxpayers, and no to using the results from the 29th in which Clinton won zero delegates.

If Florida is going to turn around and give out delegates to the Democrats then we need a do-over at the expense of the candidates.

You're right ThinkTanked let the political scum fund their own stupid do-over.
But hey we have a closet Democrap as a governor who is off sucking up and brown nosing the washington turds. With that idiot as our governor, we'll end up having to fund it.Maybe if he becomes VP we can at least get him out of our state, someone else can put up with him.
