Gov. Charlie Crist announced his engagement to 38-year-old businesswoman Carole Rome. What do you think of the governor's move to get married now?

Good for him, As for him only knowing her for a short while, thats nothing I know people that have met and married in a few weeks and are still married after 20 years.
I don't see how this is news that helps me in anyway. We should leave this Man alone and let him enjoy what he has.

Um, helllo? It's totally obvious....America expects it's Presidents and Vice Presidents to be married, especially in a conventional marriage. Gov. Crist's decision to be single has been a subject of interest ever since he made his bid for the Governor seat here in Fl. so it's only natural that his move to get married ( out of the blue it seems to many ) is nothing more than some glue to hold that VP nomination together.

I do not think it is a political move. Not everyone has the need to share their private life like Hollywood. I wish him the best of luck. Maybe this time it will last a little longer than a month.

Good for Govener Crist. Everybody needs somebody. I am lucky. I have been with my wife for 17 great years. I hope he and Carole Rome have many happy years.

My husband just told me that Christ got engaged. I had to ask if he was engaged to a man or woman. I guess he would need to overcome that rumor if he wants to be VP.

...a very sad sad day indeed. Very few men from my high school have survived this many years without being trapped and taken down...as far as I can tell Charlie and Me where the only survivors . Fact is men are never happy in captivity , I had hopped that he would live out his life roaming free as god intended LOL

BTW , RM if it is an open wedding you should go (hell I should go*) you will never see a larger collection of beautiful woman crying anywhere els in your life.
Let see from Del Ray who is going to be there , Tracy , Cindy (P and C) Marlet , Derdri , Susan (to many initials to list!) Rose ...come to think of it much as reminiscing about girls that Charlie dated back home is fun a few of those girls would be a bit inconvenient for me to actually run into again. LOL

BEARD
(LV - mid 1960s - v., n.)
1. To date a woman to prevent the suspicion of being homosexual.

2. A lesbian who dates or marries a homosexual to prevent suspicion of his homosexuality, or to help him socially.

3. A straight woman married to or involved with a gay man. The gay man may be in the public eye, and may have a beard to hide the fact that he is gay. "She is just my beard."

Crist didnt have another wife for 30 years so I am glad he is happy.

I have never been married but I am set in my ways and I am not sure if I will fall in love.

So the best to him... I understand.

I just thought Charlie’s feminine tendencies were justified, but now that he’s all of a sudden getting married, I can’t help but think it’s more political than love. Anyway, he might be more apt to govern with the concerns of families now, but I doubt it.

I just wonder if he doesnt get picked for VP what happens? Even if he is gay, and it is a cover up, is there any thing in politics that is black and white anymore? Like they say " If your gonna be in the spot light, you better not have skeletons in the closet".
PS: I just want my HUGE tax break that was promised

Wow you guys are harsh. Maybe he just liked to screw around. Thats a pretty good incentive to be single. Less drama, lots of ladies, it's a win win situation.

I couldn't see getting married because I've never met a woman I would ever want to be tied down to for an eternity. Give me them for a month or two at a time then let me be free to check out the other lady's the world has to offer. Some men want the married life but there are quite a few happy to play the field.

The biggest argument my friends and family have against me not wanting to marry is that I will die lonely. My answer is that it's a new age and no matter how old you get theres always a bevy of lonely divorced women out there. Another important fact is that women are looking a lot sexier all the way up the ladder these days.

Overall it's great that he's getting married if it's for love but don't think he's gay just because he hadn't decided to get married yet. Thats a very ignorant mentality when someone say's because someones not like them they must be gay. It makes me laugh and shake my head when I here people talk BLEEP like that.

In closing I admire the governor for all he's done, he's keeps his politics for the most part with his constituents in mind. An unusual trait for most Republicans.

The Talk of the Green Iguana
Will American voters elect the first gay vice president in November?
By Bob Norman
Published on February 28, 2008
The rumors about Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and the Green Iguana just wouldn't go away.

The story goes that the Florida governor frequented the Green Iguana, a bar in Tampa, back in the early 1990s when he was just starting his political career. He was less careful back then, people say, and during his partying at the Green Iguana, he was openly gay.

When I got Rick Calderoni, the bar's well-known owner, on the phone, I expected him to stonewall me about it.

He didn't.

Calderoni, who is gay, confirmed that Crist came into his bar quite often and that the two of them became friends.

Getting to the point, I asked him if he knew Crist to be gay.

"Yes," he answered bluntly. "I just wish he would come out and admit it. That would be a great thing if he did."

I asked Calderoni if he was certain that Crist is gay. He told me that Crist socialized with a gay clique of friends but conceded that he'd never actually seen Crist become intimate with another man.

So how can he be sure Crist is gay?

"The way he acted," Calderoni said.

How did he act?

Calderoni laughed and said, "Very feminine."

The Green Iguana owner then told me that he knew someone who could provide me more information and that he would have him call me. The call never came.

It wasn't proof. Just more circumstantial evidence that Florida's Republican governor is gay, a prevalent rumor in Tallahassee for years.

The topic may soon, h

The topic may soon, however, get some national play. After helping to deliver Florida in the GOP primary, Crist is widely believed to be on the short list to become John McCain's nominee for vice president.

If he were to be chosen, imagine how interesting this presidential election would be. Not only would the American people be asked to vote for the first black president or female commander in chief, but, at least in terms of subtext, also the first gay vice president.

Are they ready for it? Do they even care?

well he better get some advice from McGreevey before embarking on this wedded (pretend) journey.

I think this might be contrived because of the fact that Crist is a Republican. There are a lot of gays who would say or do just about anything to disparage a republican's image.

If it is true it's kind of creepy he would get married. Also if he were gay then why not just come out and admit it? I know he's a republican but I have a couple of friends from work who are gay and they are Republican. Maybe it would help the party more than hurt it. One thing that keeps a lot of gays from the republican party is the homophobia of the christian right in the party, maybe this would balance it out? Anyone think there is any truth to this hypothesis?

I don't know if he is or not and I really don't care but just the idea of it is funny.
