Leaving your trash cans at the curb in St. Cloud could cost you.

Beginning July 1st the city will begin to enforce an ordinance allowing for fines if residents don’t roll their garbage cans back to their homes.

According to a city spokesperson they’ve gotten numerous complaints from residents about cans littering curbs in neighborhoods for days and weeks at a time.

Think trash can fines are a good idea?
A great way to clean up neighborhoods?

Or a big waste of time and money.

In Deltona
If you leave them out for too long, They will be gone as kids around here just love to drive over them and drag them down the streets.

Just one comment here about what Cale said - I am sure FOX teleprompted him to say it anyway - before you go saying things like "freedom being taken away...won't be able to do anything at all" which is irresponsible Journalism anyway, go walk with some people in Russia, Bosnia or even Bulgaria. This garbage about Americans losing freedom obviously have never been anywhere in Europe outside of Paris or London, geesh, come on guys lighten up. Clean up your ugly fargin trash cans and get over yourself!

I think it is a great idea. It definitely will cleanup the neighborhoods. And it will be an incentive to people to put their trash cans up after they have been emptied.

Its a great idea! Residences of my new community have decided the curb is the new place for trash! Forget hurricane damage, what about our afternoon storms. My car was hit by an empty trash can from a home 5 houses down, 4 days after garbage was picked up. We are a new commmunity, with a home builder struggling to sell. You would think they would push the issue with LAZY homeowners. Should I dare say the "LAWSUIT"?

Come on! Who wants to see trash cans out all day. Or smell trash cans out all day. This is nothing but being lazy. Take out the cans when the truck comes and bring it back when they leave. Simple. Our community does not tolerate this campground mentallity.

Speaking of lightening up...do you really think, chargrin, that I was saying that with all the seriousness and lack of humor that your post has? Doesn't a story about fines over trash cans seem a little silly, especially considering the plight of people in Russia, Bosnia and even Bulgaria?

St Cloud tried this before and lost in Court, the court ruled if the can was on your property you were Ok, but if your can was n the City right of way they had ya..It's not like they don't have real crime to deal with, get the crooks and leave your TAX PAYER ALONE...

There is no excuse for being lazy...you take it out so you are very capible to bring it back in! There are times where I have seen trash cans sitting by the roads empty for days...and they sometimes wonder why their trash can is all broken up sometimes!

I think I'm going to start placing fines on the trash boys when they just throw your trash can instead of sitting it back upright! They can start buying all my trash cans that roll into the street and get hit or ran over because they throw them on it's rounded side which all knowingly ROLLS!

What's good for the gander is good for the goose!

I think the City Utilities Engineer is behind this whole deal. I have no evidence to prove that payola is involved. He works under code name "Chief Broken Arrow".

how would they know who's trash cans they are? I see trash cans in the street all the time, and if it is windy, they blow down the street

once I thought someone stole my trash cans, but the wind blew them 3 doors down into the neighbors back yard, right next to their patio where they keep their other trash cans

I am guilty for not bringing in my trash cans right away but they are usually in within 48 hours unless its stormy out. I dont want them blowing down the street! aha

Oh and lol about adeltionian's post

hahaha those lil s*its! It's sad Deltona is that boring, kids have to drag trash cans! :)

The whole reason the trash cans are out there so long in the first place is because the teenagers are out getting pregnant and not at home doing their chores like they should be......

Man, I have a few neighbors down the street who leave their cans out until it's time for the NEXT pickup! The kids and cars do damage to them and it's a hazard when you think about it.

I left my trash can "laying" out where I sit my trash. Finally they took it and put it in the truck. I was giving them another week, before I put a sign on it. It was falling apart and needed to go. I think sitting my garbage bag on top of it's flat side, maybe gave them a hint, it was trash.

Yes it's going to be a money maker, but please, let the police do the jobs which protect and serve. This is so petty.

Oh Gammies, listen to this one! We had a garbage can ready to be hauled off. I PAINTED on the thing, 'Please take me for I am trash.' Then put our garbage in it. Do you think they took it? Holy BLEEP no way. Should I have written it in Spanish? Probably. I had to write a sign and put ON the garbage to tell them to take it. I don't even think if I put it in the middle of the street they would have taken it.

Why don't the police first start cracking down on people who litter? I constantly see trash coming out of cars and have had Police cars next to me when it came out of a car ahead of us. They didn't bother even stopping the driver. I guess that it is easier to give tickets to otherwise law abiding citizens because they leave their trash container out a little longer than they should.

Perhaps everyone should simply place their trash bags out without a container and subject it to the stray dogs and other animals in the neighborhood.

I was almost tempted to rip it up and stick it in a big bag.

I always take my trash out the day of, so no animals are tempted to rummage through it. Trick is not to put food in there until trash day. It's bad when a poor raccoon, or opossum gets stuck in a black bag in the summer heat.

OOOOO....I had that happen too! A possum fell into it and died from the heat I guess. I made my husband take that one out to the road!
