State lawmakers are debating over the commuter rail. They'd need to buy 61 miles of track from C-S-X Transportation. The commuter rail project would provide transportation to Central Floridians from Debary in Volusia County to Kissimee in Osceola County. However, some in Lakeland are opposed to it  because it would increase traffic and noise in their area. But it would relieve traffic in other areas. What do you think? Do you support the commuter rail?

I think it's just dumb. There are SO many people that live over here in Brevard who work over in Orlando. Why don't we get part of this too? I think it's a little unfair.

Channyman...

They have to start somewhere, and were able to save millions by using existing tracks and not having to buy right-of-ways, build tracks, etc... Hopefully, that may come.

As gas prices go up, I think more people will use the commuter rail than even first anticipated. We can't build enough roads to keep up, this may be a PART of the traffic situation in central Fla.

I'm sure glad we got all this excess money for this so called commuter rail with all the budget cuts going on. Doesn't matter if the federal government flipping part of the bill, if there's budget cuts because of the lack of funds, then they don't have the funds to build this so called commuter rail. I have my doubts that this so called commuter rail is for the people who live and work here in Central Florida. I think it's more for the tourits.

Okay, so we're able to save millions....how much do we have to pay to get this on board? Hmmm......thought so. While we have no part of it, we still have to pay for it. I think Florida roads were laid out by a bunch of drunks. There are no cross roads anywhere. I can't wait to hear everyone complain how much they have to spend for this. First it's gas prices which everyone seems to think is Bush's fault, and now this. I bet it won't even get on the ground. I agree with you GrayWolf.

Now I go back to my first blog. What about Brevard? We have the beaches, KSC, NASA, etc. Also have about 50% of people live here and commute to Orlando to work. Oh, but it'll cost too much money!!

Native.....Couldn't tell ya, more than likely zero, notta, zilch. The point is that if the state and local governments are laying people off, cutting services because the lack of funds then they(we) don't need this so called commuter rail. The government is living high on the hog at our expense. I have a budget in my household and I haven't seen a pay raise or cost of living raise in 7 years and if I can't afford it, then I don't buy it. I'm not poor by any stretch of the imagination, but the government needs to get out of this tax, tax, tax, spend, spend, spend mode they been in for years, but it will never happen and you know why.....Because they(politicians) thinks it's their money. I've been saying for some time now, that all these politicians that are in office right now, need to be voted right out of office. The only thing they're concerned with is lining their pockets. And people who are complaining that we need this so called commuter rail because they live so far away from work. No one told you you had to live so far away from your work place that now with the price of gas the way it is, they expect the people who are against this so called commuter rail to pay for it. When all the other issues are taken care then I may go for the rail system but until then we don't need it.

Why do the commentators STILL speak about Commuter Rail as being something which will have a noticable impact on traffic congestion in Central FL?

Yes, it will benefit some people and benefits. However there's simply no way a SINGULAR rail line, as proposed, will have a noticable impact on congestion on any local routes, I-4 being a good example.

There just is not enough volume of people who will be able to use the rail in place of cars to have an impact worth noticing.

As I said in another post, if commuter rail made even a 0.5% difference on I-4 traffic, I'd be amazed.
