Some of you whine about your posts on this blog being edited. You say we're hippocrates, and are violating your constitutional rights: Freedom of Speech.

News flash. Freedom of Speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want, even on a blog.

Freedom of Speech doesn't give you the right to slander, swear and shamelessly insult others.

In the spirit of Independence Day, thumb through our constitution, and educated yourself about Freedom of Speech.

Very true Tom.
We do have a right to express ourself, but as a business and owner of this site, you have a right to edit some things.

You should take your OWN advice Tom..I have noticed on YOUR posts that YOU are usually the FIRST one to toss names out there..
Moronss and Crackheads ( You MUST be on crack or you MUST be smoking Crack ) sound familier to you??

I doubt that you'd hear much whining if the rules applied to EVERYONE..

Free speech is in the bill of rights, and you have the right to say anything you want...
But, the owner/operator of this website has the write to refuse your words if they find them offensive... they can ban you from the site altogether... that is THEIR right.

Freedom of Speech does not mean you can say anything you want. The Founders put Freedom of Speech in there so the debate of ideas would not be stifled. It has nothing to do with hurling insults.

To have to curse and lash out verbally is a sign of an uneducated individual.
Now before i get bashed.....There are many words in the english language, that are descriptive, and can portray the ideas one wants to put forth, without being demeaning and abusive. Its all in the choice of words you choose to use, and we all have choices.
And this being in print, it is much easier to "edit" what is being said, unlike verbal, that just sorta slips out and is to late to "edit".
It boils down to common courtesy, for a fellow human. So next time you wanna curse or bash another, remember you are only "showing" your lack of intelligence of our mighty language

Fox rules the roost when it comes to this thread.

Fear not Fox, fear the government (they have the guns and jails) when it comes to freedom of speech and the assault thereon.

George Bush would like nothing better than to stifle dissent based on "national security"... a typical thuggist tactic. The wonderful lads and ladettes in the Judiciary are our only salvation.

Thank you too, to our protectors at the ACLU.

Thanks Tom this is way better than the answer that has been given in the past to “editing” on this site. I can understand cutting out right slander , and saying it that way is much much better than the way it went down a few years ago when Fox stated “We can do whatever we want its our blog” ...
I have not found Fox to be over bearing of late (Fox 35 that is, don't get me started about some affiliates!) I have not seen anything I wanted to say that was cut and taking my temper and mistrust of the media into account that is saying a lot !

Another thing to take into account is that the poster of a blog can “cut” your comments as well , it is easy for someone to blame fox when the lose your Comments because they don't like them. (me defending fox , Imagen that. O well it was bound to happen ...I had to defend Obama yesterday on a blog, and yes I an still nauseous )

Another user within this topic wrote something that was excellent and that we all should adhere to:

Jun 30, 2008 | 9:16 AM I've stated it before and I'll state it again! It takes two or more to tango and all it does is feed the fire and insults the host and their post! So it isn't just one that causes the disruption but everyone else that adds on and builds the flame! It's rude, it's insulting, and it's childish! This is American and freedom of speech is our right but so is the choice of getting involved or looking away! It's much easier to scroll past anyone who chooses to insult and just comment on the subject of the post, but it makes it hard to comment on a post when others continue in the off subject commenting! It takes a bigger person to stop it within it's tracks and stick to that persons posted subject and douse out the flame instead of continuing to feed the fire attack! The question I have to everyone is, "Who can be that better and bigger person and who can not?"
=================

I believe in the same exact thing. And because I deleted one or two comments that were directed at personal information of another Fox User, because I chose to protect her from personal abuse, slander, and harassment, I deleted the comment. In turn it created a problem to where a few grown adults turned into the biggest bullying children I have ever seen. If you look at my page Tom, I had no

choice but to turn my "comments" off due to the relentless harassment of another particular User Name. Because I keep deleting nasty comments that invite harassment, ridicule, or slander of another, this user Abunai uses some political agenda to justify stealing of 3 of my topics. In these topics if you go read them, you will find those who were made to behave by Fox, continuing with the harassment. I even tried to make an argument that CHILDREN frequent this site, and they still don't care. Tom, one of my particular topics "New Beginnings" that was selected and put in the Community Page in the Faith section for review has over 100 of the ugliest comments seen by adults. Since I could not keep up with the deletions, I finally said enough is enough and turned the comments off by recommendation. Since you brought this excellent Subject up, Tom I will give you the 3 topics that were stolen by Abunai from me, when you get a chance read what is written there and if you can see it on your end, review my comments that were turned off on my page. You will see why I turned them off. I think people who invite such hate, slander, harassment, and disrespect should just seek a Blog space meant for just adults! Anyone with intelligence can see right through, what they call "innocent instigations."

Stolen Topics:

http://community.myfoxorlando.com/blogs/Abunai/2008/07/

http://community.myfoxorlando.com/blogs/Abunai/2008/06/
26/Mortgage_issues_and_selfaccountability

Compare these to my page and you will find that Abunai stole my topics completely word for word, copied and pasted them to his page for what he states is a "Political Agenda," however, when you read the comments, I believe you will agree it is meant to continue to instigate harassment and invite others who were made to behave to do the same. And then you may understand why I had to shut my comment section off on my Fox 35 page. I have asked Fox 35 however to delete all of the nasty and unwarranted comments in each section. Then if that's possible, I will turn the comment screen back on.

Also, because of this Tom, I have asked Fox 35 to delete my user page completely, so what they intend on doing I am not sure as I think once I have asked for that out of pure frustration, I don't know if I can ask them to stop with the process of deleting my complete page. But I suppose I have to ask myself, is the relentless harassment worth trying to relay good topics of discussion if people here cannot act like the adults they should be. Especially if one like Abunai goes off because I chose to protect the integrity of another Fox 35 User. But Tom, you and all of your staff at Fox 35 are wonderful people and what has happened here, clearly does not change our views about the Fox 35 news team. Because of these problems however, I do recommend that Fox 35 put a section together for your viewers of 18 and under. Because a handful of people here will never learn what's important

nor will they ever understand as adults the importance of trying to be a good example for our children who frequent the internet.

No Tom you have been fine. Compared to a few others you have been a purring kitten...lol. Perhaps you can light a match under the moderators to help me with my current problem at hand. However, back to sharing one last comment here; And then to read that some of you above are more concerned about Freedom of Speech verses the Rights of Respect for others as well, is very disheartening. People wonder why our children today are growing up without respect of adult authority. Don't blame the Government for the control they feel is necessary to put in place to protect others, including children. If grown adults cannot respect others without instigation or ridicule, then it's our own fault for slowly loosing what Freedom we have left. If adults act like children, then they will be treated like children. Fox recently did a clean up because a certain few (3) were trying to get (2) others banned, and in doing so, documented some serious hate, slander, harassment, and just plain flat out lies. Now could these people be taken to court for what they did, absolutely yes they can. Is worth the time and effort? Maybe, however when one bully leaves, another seems to replace them. Now these people that were caught want to cry foul? Why waste such time being a bully and trying to point out lies, and slanderous faults of another? My guess is most of the adults think that the internet is an open target to attack people and get away with it. Just like sneaky little children. How would you feel if many of the comments here were directed solely to one of your children? I am sure all guns

would be brought out to protect your child at that point. So it is only human nature to defend our integrity in the cyber world as well. I read another Fox reporter state, "before you hit that submit or done key," make sure it is something that your children can read," and I think he added Grandparents as well. So blame the Government and/or Fox for loosing our Freedom of Speech? I don't think so, before you blame another in calling the "Kettle Black," look in the mirror first!

Let me set the record straight on a few other things:

1-I, too, have been edited on my own blog. And, at times, with cause. This webpage is owned by a major corporation, and there has to be control what happens here.

2-Personally, I could care less if you attack me. It comes with the job. I have thick skin, and nothing you say is going to spoil my day, so bring it on. But be warned, Big Brother is watching.

Well,, I don't have a problem with THAT aspect of the editing debate..The Constitution deals with Free Speech on the premise that ONLY THE GOVERNMENT CAN TRUELY CENSOR PEOPLE..

There is NOTHING to prevent ANYONE from exercising their rights somewhere else if they don't like it here..
Personally,, I'd just as soon see all the Vitriol banned altogether..AS LONG AS IT'S CARRIED OUT ACROSS THE BOARD..

Now YOU Tom..I have always gotten the impression that YOU were “egging things on” but not everybody’s going to see things that way..Wouldn’t it be easier and therefore better to avoid the question altogether??Practice what YOU Preach,, so to speak???

Now Here is a Problem that I DO have with this,, although I do NOT believe that I have the RIGHT to demand change..

I have seen perfectly PROPER and ACCEPTABLE Phrases being Bleeped because SOME White Liberal SOMEWHERE Doesn’t want to take a chance on POSSIBLY offending someone..

For instance..

JUST out of curiousity,,, I have been asking around,, for MORE then a YEAR now,, and have YET to find a SINGLE person of Chinese decent who would be offended or who thinks that the use of the Phrase “ a BLEEP in his Armor” is improper or otherwise unacceptable in ANY way..Indeed..I have ACTUALLY found MORE then a FEW who were INSULTED by the RACIST’S PRESUMPTION that THEY would or SHOULD be offended SIMPLY because of their ancestry..

Just a thought…

ROFLOL...awe sorry, excuse me for laughing here but I just can't control it.

First we have FOX'S idea of "editing", to simply remove a fellow bloggers NAME from a post where IT IS NOT slanderous, or used as an insult, but to clairfy the individual in question. Then we are treated to a blogger spouting page after page of whinny, badly hidden insults throw at someone, COMPLAINING about EVERYONE but herself and BLAMING EVERYONE but HERSELF. That is just to darn funny! Or is that irony being that its on a blog about Freedom of Speech?

Ya know TOM, FOX would be far more credible if they ACTUALLY enforced ALL the TOS rules for EVERYONE EQUALLY and not just letting a select FEW BLOGGERS slide ALL THE TIME.

Till then I will say exactly what I think and if they don't like it they can follow the advise on my avatar.

Have a great 4th...ENJOY YOUR FREEDOMS.

The Freedom of Speech Protects you from the Government, not from it's people. So for the tip of the day...If you are going to badmouth someone make sure you have the A** to back it up, or just keep your opinions to yourself unless you are ready to back up what you say or defend your statements.
