I travel 429 several times a week and just noticed a speed trap today heading north right before the 441 intersection. Apopka cops pulled over 8 cars in a row right ahead of me. When I went back thru an hour later the cops were still there and had 6 more victims. There is not much for signs coming into this intersection. Looks like yet another case of revenue enhancement. Its a shame. Not only do we have to worry about getting ripped of by criminals but now we can get shaken down by the police!

I guess it'd be a different story if one of those speeders killed a pedestrian and the cops weren't there. It's their own damn fault, you have control of your gas pedal, they chose to break the law and they suffered the consequence..boo frickin who. I'm sure many of them travel that roadway daily and know the speed limit

It's only a "trap" if your speeding, Einstein. Obey this, and every, traffic law and you'll never have to worry about "enhancing" their revenue...

Are you all brain-dead??? These "speeders" are getting hosed!!! Ask anyone who knows anything about traffic flow/engineering and knows this stretch of road. Its a money grab pure and simple.

This is the second post of yours I've encountered in recent days wherein you insult those who have a different opinion than yours.

If your interpretation of "The American Dream" is an irresponsible lifestyle with zero tolerance for other points of view, then I guess you have it nailed, pal.

UncleRob,
I have plenty of tolerance for other points of view. What I can't tolerate is a goverment sanctioned rip-off. And there are plenty of folks on here that are smart enough to see this practice for just what it is.

tava -- ridiculing people as you have now in the two posts I know of, is insulting and intolerant. There's no debating that.

What's more, the law is the law. You don't get to obey only the ones you agree with. You obey them all or pay the consequences. Simple.

Don't like the laws here? I understand that there are areas of Alaska wildness that have no posted speed limits. Move there.

UncleRob,
You don't believe we have speed traps in Florida put in place strictly for the purpose of revenue enhancement? And your profile says you are a newspaper man? I assume you are in delivery (not that there is anything wrong with that) because any good reporter would know how some law enforcement agencies "use" the law for their own purposes.

And to think I didn't even get a ticket!

Traffic engineers maintain that speed limits should be established according to the 85th percentile of free flowing traffic. This means the limit should be set at a level at or under which 85 percent of people are driving. Numerous studies have shown that the 85th percentile is the safest possible level at which to set a speed limit. According to a pamphlet produced by the Washington State Department of Transportation relating to speed limits, "realistic" speed limits should invite public compliance by conforming to the behavior of the most drivers. This would allow the police to easily separate the serious violators from the reasonable majority.

People who are incapable of holding up their end of an argument with resorting to insults and ridicule (the delivery crack), usually score very low on the emotional maturity index, so I will waste no more of my time with you after this:

Take all your studies and expert engineers up to Tallahassee and get them to change the laws. Until then, obey the law.

If this is unacceptable to you, there's always the Alaska option. Bon Voyage.

Yes that is the wonderful Mrs. TavaresJim featured on my avatar. I am truly blessed with a wonderful life. Lived in Tavares since 1975. It was a great place to grow up...now there are just too many people!!! 44yrs old, married for 23 years. 21yr old son & 14 yr old daughter. Business owner trying to live the American Dream. Kinda tough though with the idiots we have running things. My current favorite bumper sticker saying: "George Bush & Congress, bringing the 3rd world to your neighborhood". I follow no party lines when it comes to issues and I don't trust those that do. I like to make up my own mind about things.
