Fed-Up Families Turn To Barbed Wire, Shotguns To Police Neighborhood
Homeowners: 'Someone Is Going To Get Hurt'
SANFORD, Fla. -- Families in a crime-ridden Central Florida neighborhood are arming themselves with shotguns and talking about adding electric barbed wire to stop thieves targeting their homes.
"Somebody is going to end up getting hurt," resident Andrea Fine said. "The homeowners are tense. We are all on edge. For the first time in my life I'm really scared to live in my home."
Homeowners living near and on Sanford Avenue in Sanford said crime is so bad that some of them have been robbed three times.
"We were told they would come back and they came back," homeowner Pat Doughty said.
She is one of several residents who have armed themselves and plan to go to extremes to protect their property.
"My next thing is to put electric and probably some barbed wire or something," Doughty said. "I'm shooting the next person who comes in. Don't come on my property anymore."
Doughty said she is moving because of the crime.
"My kids call every day to make sure we are safe," Doughty said. "They want us to move and we are going to move because we can't put up with the crime."
Families said they want more police patrolling. But plans to add 10 more Sanford police officers could be in jeopardy because of budget cuts.
The city's police chief said he is working on a solution.
What would you do if it was your neighborhood? Thoughts? Comments?

After reading another posters topic I decided to research some more here's what I've found.
What’s Up with Water Conversion Kits
First off, please keep in mind the words of dear old mom and dad: “There is no such thing as a free lunch.” Though I don’t have direct experience with a water conversion kit, My own experience with other types of fuel conversions has made me aware that there’s more than meets the eye here. Technically, the idea behind the “run your car on water” conversion kits is sound science, but the claims are very misleading.
Internal combustion engines cannot, and do not, run on straight water. These kits use hydrogen generators to electrolyze water that’s stored in a small tank under the vehicle’s hood. Basically, electrolyzed water (H20) is transformed into its constituent elemental parts, 2 atoms of hydrogen and 1 atom of oxygen (HHO)--commonly known as Brown’s gas. At this point, the gas is captured and piped into the engine’s intake manifold or air-cleaner, where it then mixes with the fuel (and this can be a gasoline or diesel powered engine), to help it burn more efficiently—and the end result is supposed to be improved gas mileage and reduced emissions.
But here's the misleading part of the many advertisements and claims I've read that kind-of ruffle My feathers, so-to-speak. An important, but glossed over point.
The engine isn't running solely on water, and it's not even running solely (or even predominantly) on this newly manufactured Brown's gas. It simply mixes this gas (as a small percentage) with the vehicle's main fuel source. So, you still need to buy fuel--the main fuel tank still needs to be filled with petroleum--though perhaps not quite as often--and that continues to be the main fuel source.
And further, where does the electricity come from that breaks down the water into Brown’s gas? It comes from your vehicle’s electrical system (battery and alternator). At the very least, the electrical system will have an additional load to power the hydrogen generator. Of course, this additional load is borne by the engine as it will actually have to work a little bit harder—and use more fuel—to drive the electricity-producing alternator.
Increased Fuel Economy?
Purveyors of these conversion kits claim a 15 to 20 percent increase in fuel economy. While that may be true on their test vehicle, it would greatly vary tremendously from vehicle to vehicle and installation to installation. Something to keep in mind is that modern engines are designed to run efficiently and cleanly on the fuel that they were engineered to burn. Studies have shown that conversions often negatively affect emissions. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, “In the mid 1990s, testing determined that some vehicles converted to operate on alternative fuels, specifically natural gas and propane, produced worse emissions than those of baseline gasoline vehicles.”
Potential Pitfalls
One of the first places I’d expect to see problems develop would be the cars computer oxygen sensor misreadings. Remember that Brown’s gas has a component of oxygen in addition to the hydrogen—that additional atom of oxygen could conceivably “fool” the O2 sensor into seeing a lean fuel condition. In this scenario, the onboard computer would then direct the fuel system to increase fuel delivery to enrich the mixture, thereby potentially increasing fuel consumption and emissions. Modern engines require a very delicate balance of air and fuel, with their myriad electronic sensors and computer-controlled fuel, ignition and emission systems.
That said, if you really want to try one of these, I would suggest you use an older, second or third car or truck (early-90s or older) as a guinea pig—not your primary vehicle. If the system works well for you, and provides results you’re happy with, you can then decide if you want to expand it to your other vehicle(s).
5 Points to Remember
Here are the things that are recommended to consider before purchasing a water conversion kit:
- Cost of the kit: They can range from a cheapie ($200-300) to high quality ($2,000+), with well-made hardware that’ll perform better and last longer—of course, this affects your payback period also.
- Assess your mechanical ability. Will you have to rely upon someone else for troubleshooting and occasional repair issues, or can you do these yourself?
- Do you have an older second car that can be used as your test-bed? Try a kit on your spare mid-90s or older car. If it works out, great, if not, the loss is not so big.
- Will you remember to monitor and maintain the system? The bare minimum would involve keeping the water tank full and associated regular maintenance.
- Do you want to be able to get in, turn the key and go? We emphasize that you need to be a strong DIYer—with a curiosity and determination to do something different—and be willing/able to put the time into it.
So, is an HHO conversion worth it? I believe the potential pitfalls probably outweigh the benefits.
Am I saying individuals should avoid water conversions? "No". I'm saying it may not work as simply, or as well, as the claims made by the manufacturers. Converting a dedicated system does compromise the integrity of the overall system. They usually don’t work as well—or efficiently—as they could (i.e. perhaps the alternator or drive belt may need frequent replacing). Plus, do these kits work through all the seasons? Does the hydrogen generator provide trouble-free service through winter’s cold snaps too?
Out of the above five points, I can’t stress enough that you need to honestly assess your own mechanical aptitude. Beyond simply installing the kit, there will most certainly be maintenance, repair and trouble-shooting issues that you’ll have to deal with—and the answer certainly won’t be at your car dealer—and probably won’t be down at the corner garage either.
While it may be helpful to find an online community of folks, this is one trip on which you’ll likely find yourself sailing the voyage alone.....

Foods of Love - Food as Aphrodisiacs Many people do not realise, common foods are used as aphrodisiacs.
Researched By Peggy Trowbridge Filippone
History is rife with the human pursuit of aphrodisiacs in many forms. Scientific tests have proven that some aromas can cause a greater effect on the body than the actual ingestion of foods. Here are some common foods of love used through the ages.
• Alcohol: lowers inhibitions and increases confidence; however, over-indulgence has a sedative effect not conducive to a romantic tryst.
• Asparagus: three courses of asparagus were served to 19th century bridegrooms due to its reputed aphrodisiacal powers.
• Banana: due not only to its shape, but also its creamy, lush texture, some studies show its enzyme bromelain enhances male performance.
• Caviar: is high in zinc, which stimulates the formation of testosterone, maintaining male functionality.
• Champagne: viewed as the "drink of love," moderate quantities lower inhibitions and cause a warm glow in the body.
• Chocolate: contains both a sedative which relaxes and lowers inhibitions and a stimulant to increase activity and the desire for physical contact. It was actually banned from some monasteries centuries ago.
• Figs: seasonal crops were celebrated by ancient Greeks in a frenzied copulation ritual.
• Ginseng: increases desire for physical contact.
• Perfumes: made of natural foodstuffs such as almond, vanilla, and other herbs and spices act as a pheromone to communicate emotions by smell.
• Puffer Fish: considered both a delicacy and an aphrodisiac in Japan. If the poisonous gland is not properly removed, the tiniest taste is deadly. The flirt with death is said to give a sexual thrill. Not recommended.
• Oysters: Some oysters repeatedly change their sex from male to female and back, giving rise to claims that the oyster lets one experience the the masculine and feminine sides of love.
• Radish: considered a divine aphrodisiac by Egyptian pharoahs, most likely because its spicy taste stimulated the palate.
• Truffles: probably due to its rarity and musky aroma, it has long been considered to arouse the palate and the body. To sustain his masulinity, an ancient lover in lore was said to have gorged himself to death on Alba truffles during the wedding feast.

Most people know of it as a pale-green lump on the side of their plates in Japanese restaurants—a hot, spicy accompaniment to sushi or sashimi. The fiery yet sweet taste perfectly compliments the saltiness of soy sauce and the cool delicacy of raw fish. But wasabi is much more than a burst of culinary flavor, it has been used by traditional herbalists of Japan since the 10th century and is now being rediscovered by modern health practitioners for its stunning health benefits.
Wasabi has powerful detoxification properties, in particular, it supports the immune system and cleanses the liver. Wasabi contains precursors to phytochemicals called isothiocyanates that help remove toxic substances that are stored in the liver’s fatty tissues.
The rare wasabi plant is a natural, potent support to a healthy, cleansed liver that in turn affects the detoxification and cleansing of the entire body. Source Naturals is pleased to bring you this convenient, effective addition to your wellness program.
Wasabia Japonica - Rooted In Health
The wasabi plant (Wasabia japonica) grows naturally in the mountains of Japan in the gravel and sandbars of coldwater streams and rivers. Rare and difficult to grow, it takes three years for a wasabi root or rhizome to reach maturity. Because of its popularity, wasabi is now cultivated hydroponically and in cold, wet environments outside of Japan, such as in New Zealand and Oregon. Traditionally, the rhizome was freshly grated at the table with a sharkskin grater, popular with dishes such as seafood or udon noodles. Now wasabi is usually dried into powder form and made into the pale green paste familiar to most westerners. Often, however, restaurants do not serve real wasabi; since it is so rare and expensive, a dyed horseradish paste is served in most American restaurants.
What makes wasabi so special? It comes from a good family; the brassica vegetables in the cruciferae family include such health giants as broccoli, horseradish, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and kale. All of these are well-known detoxifying plants, and wasabi appears to be the most amazing of them all, with detox capacities far beyond the others in the family because it is loaded with isothiocyanate precursors. This chemical not only gives wasabi its famous “fire,” it is likewise a fireball of detoxification properties.
Phase II Detox
The liver detoxifies the by-products of digestion and other harmful substances through a complex series of chemical reactions often referred to as Phase I and Phase II Detoxification. Phase I enzymes begin the process by taking the toxic molecule and changing it into a bioactive form. This process breaks down toxins. A second set of enzymes, Phase II, then neutralizes the toxin and makes it water soluble for elimination. Wasabi, with its long-chain isothiocyanate precursors, induces the Phase II enzymes. Simply stated, it is the sparkplug that starts Phase II enzymes on their work. This process, all done in the liver, supports the body’s ability to clean itself of impurities.
The wasabi plant has actually been used by herbalists in Japan since the 10th century.

Remember that thing called gun control? Britan has gun control, now they have a bigger problem...
knife crime "epidemic"
The 15-year-old schoolgirl was found dead in an elevator at a south London apartment building this week, the 16th teenager slain in Britain's capital this year. Most, like Dawit, were stabbed to death — and most of their killers were other young people.
The deaths have sparked fears of a knife crime "epidemic" among Britain's young, and spurred the government to announce tougher penalties for teens caught carrying a blade.
"Carrying a knife is completely unacceptable," Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Thursday announcing an end to Britain's system of issuing warnings to some teenagers caught with knives.
Until now, warnings were given to most of those under the age of 18 found with knives. With the change, anyone 16 or over who carries a knife with a blade longer than 3 inches will be prosecuted. Those convicted face a penalty of up to four years in prison.
"Young people need to understand that carrying knives doesn't protect you, it does the opposite — it increases the danger for all of us, destroys young lives and ruins families," Brown said.
For a major city, London has a low murder rate. Police say there were 159 homicides from April 2007 to the same month this year, about a third the number in similarly sized New York. But the number of victims under age 18 has risen. According to police figures, 17 teenagers were killed in London in 2006, 27 in 2007, and 16 so far this year. Eleven of the 16 were stabbed to death.
Many young people say pressure to carry — and use — knives is growing.
"It's increasing. It's stupid things like 'you have spoken to my girlfriend, I'll slash you up,' or 'If I see him out, he's having it,'" said Monique Morrison, 21, one of a group of young people who met with the prime minister Thursday to discuss the problem.
The grim regularity of stabbings over the past few months has alarmed Londoners.
The victims include 18-year-old Rob Knox, who had a small part in the upcoming film "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince," and was stabbed to death while trying to break up a brawl outside a south London bar on May 24. A 21-year-old has been charged with his murder.
Knox's smiling photo and his grieving parents appeared on the front of newspapers and on television news bulletins. Two weeks earlier, it had been the face and the family of Jimmy Mizen, a popular 16-year-old stabbed with a piece of glass outside a bakery. A 19-year-old is accused of his murder.
A 21-year-old student has been charged with killing Dawit, an Eritrean immigrant who sang in a church choir and had complained to police about an earlier assault.
"It's not even a shock anymore" to hear about stabbings, said 16-year-old Vogue Huell, a student from Bromley, the south London district where Knox was killed. "It's the whole gang culture, I think. As soon as one person gets stabbed, someone goes after another person."
London's new mayor, Boris Johnson, has also vowed to crack down on knife crime. His proposals include airport-style metal-detecting arches at train and subway stations. London police recently began an aggressive new program to search anyone they wish for knives without having to justify their suspicions beforehand.
Some experts, however, say the measures are little more than political posturing.
"I'm skeptical about whether the latest measures will have an effect," said Enver Solomon, deputy director of the Center for Crime and Justice Studies at King's College London.
"The clear message from research is that kids carry knives because they don't feel safe," Solomon said. "Unless you address that feeling of insecurity, you are not going to have a big impact on the number of kids carrying knives."
Next its going to be a knife ban, you wait it will happen.. what a joke having a liberal goverment protecting us.....

Riddle Me This.!?..
You walk up to a mountain that has two paths. One leads to the other side of the mountain, and the other will get you lost forever. You meet two twins that know which path that leads to the other side. You can ask each twin only one question. The problem? One always lies and one always tells the truth, and you don't know which is which. What do you ask to find the path?

The sixties were the age of youth, as
70 million children from the post-war baby boom became teenagers and young adults. The movement away from the conservative fifties continued and eventually resulted in revolutionary ways of thinking and real change in the cultural fabric of American life. No longer content to be images of the generation ahead of them, young people wanted change. The changes affected education, values, lifestyles, laws, and entertainment. Many of the revolutionary ideas which began in the sixties are continuing to evolve today.

FACTS about this decade 60 - 69.
- Population 177,830,000
- Unemployment 3,852,000
- National Debt 286.3 Billion
- Average Salary $4,743
- Teacher's Salary $5,174
- Minimum Wage $1.00
- Life Expectancy: Males 66.6 years, Females 73.1 years
- Auto deaths 21.3 per 100,000
- An estimated 850,000 "war baby" freshmen enter college; emergency living quarters are set up in dorm lounges, hotels and trailer camps.
During the sixties, college campuses became centers of debate and scenes of protest more than ever before. Great numbers (statistics) of young adults, baby boomers, reaching military draft age (selective service) and not yet voting age (minimum voting age did not become 18 until 1971), caused a struggle which played out on many campuses as the country became more involved (timeline) in the Vietnam War.
In 1966, James S. Coleman commissioned by the government, published Equality of Educational Opportunity, a landmark study that led the way to forced integration and bussing in the 1970's.
Problems in secondary schools, discovered in the fifties, were being addressed in books such as James B. Conant's The American High School Today. A return to the teaching of basic thinking skills was seen to be part of the solution. In grade schools across the nation, phonetics made a come back as reading specialists try to fix what was wrong in American education in the fifties.
Youth predominated the culture of the 1960's. The post World War II Baby Boom had created 70 million teenagers for the sixties, and these youth swayed the fashion, the fads and the politics of the decade. California surfers took to skateboards as a way to stay fit out of season, and by 1963, the fad had spread across the country. Barbie dolls, introduced by Mattel in 1959, became a huge success in the sixties, so much so that rival toy manufacturer Hasbro came up with G. I. Joe, 12 inches tall and the first action figure for boys. Another doll, the troll or Dammit doll (named for it's creator, Thomas Dam) was a good luck symbol for all ages. Slot cars overtook toy trains in popularity.
The 1960's began with crew cuts on men and bouffant hairstyles on women. Men's casual shirts were often plaid and buttoned down the front, while knee-length dresses were
required wear for women in most public places. By mid-decade, miniskirts or hot pants, often worn with go-go boots, were revealing legs, bodywear was revealing curves, and women's hair was either very short or long and lanky. Men's hair became longer and wider, with beards and moustaches. Men's wear had a renaissance. Bright colors, double-breasted sports jackets, polyester pants suits with Nehru jackets, and turtlenecks were in vogue. By the end of the decade, ties, when worn, were up to 5" wide, patterned even when worn with stripes. Women wore peasant skirts or granny dresses and chunky shoes. Unisex dressing was popular, featuring bell bottomed jeans, love beads, and embellished t-shirts. Clothing was as likely to be purchased at surplus stores as boutiques. Black Americans of both genders wore their hair in an afro.
The Supreme Court decided in Engel v. Vitale, 370 U.S. 421, 1962, that prayer in the public schools was unconstitutional. As the 1960's progressed, many young people turned from mainstream Protestant religions to mystic eastern religions such as Transcendental Meditation (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) or Zen Buddhism. Respect for authority declined among the youth, and crime rates soared to nine times the rate of the 1950's. Marijuana use soared. Respected figures such as Timothy Leary encouraged the use of LSD as a mind-opening drug. The hippie movement endorsed drugs, rock music, mystic religions and sexual freedom. They opposed violence. The Woodstock Festival at which 400,000 young people gathered in a spirit of love and sharing, represents the pinnacle of the hippie movement. Many hippies moved to Haight Ashbury in San Francisco, East Village in New York City, or lived in communes.
When Fidel Castro, soon after overtaking Cuba, declared that he was a communist, the United States broke off diplomatic relations. Castro seized American property. The CIA attacked Cuba in an ill-fated mission at the Bay of Pigs. In 1962, a spy plane identified long range missiles in Cuba. President John F. Kennedy readied troops to invade Cuba, and the Soviet Union prepared to fire at US cities if we made a move.
The Space Race, begun by the Soviets in 1957, was highlighted by Alan Shepard, the first American in space in 1961. In 1963, John Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, in Apollo XI, were the first men to walk on the moon in 1969. The surgeon general determined that smoking was a health hazard, and in 1965 required cigarette manufacturers to place warnings on all packages and in all ads. The first clone of a vertebrate, a South African tree frog, was produced in 1967. Dr. Denton Cooley implanted the first artificial heart in a human, and it kept the patient alive for three days until a human heart could be transplanted.
People became more concerned with their health and their environment. Rachel Carson's Silent Spring awakened the environmental movement and the Sierra Club gained a following. Ralph Nader's book, Unsafe at any Speed, led to the consumer movement.
Important Historic and Cultural Events
1961 - Peace Corps created by Pres. Kennedy
1963 - Martin Luther King delivers his I have a dream speech
1963 - Pres. John F. Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas, Texas
1963 - Lyndon Johnson becomes President of the United States
In 1960, Elvis returned to the music scene from the US Army, joining the other white male vocalists at the top of the charts; Bobby Darin, Neil Sedaka, Jerry Lee Lewis, Paul Anka, Del Shannon and Frankie Avalon. America, however, was ready for a change. The Tamla Motown Record Company came on the scene, specializing in black rhythm and blues, aided in the emergence of female groups such as Gladys Knight and the Pips, Martha and the Vandellas, the Supremes, and Aretha Franklin, as well as some black men, including Smoky Robinson, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and the Temptations. Bob Dylan helped bring about a folk music revival, along with Joan Baez and Peter, Paul & Mary. The Beach Boys began recording music that appealed to high schoolers. The Beatles, from England, burst into popularity with innovative rock music that appealed to all ages. The Righteous Brothers were a popular white duo who used African American styling to create a distinctive sound.
There was a major change in popular music in the mid-1960's, caused in part by the drug scene. Acid Rock, highly amplified and improvisational, and the more mellow psychedelic rock gained prominence. When the Beatles turned to acid rock, their audience narrowed to the young. Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead grew out of the counterculture in 1967. The musical phenomena of the decade was Woodstock, a three day music festival that drew 400,000 hippies and featured peace, love, and happiness...and LSD. Folk music contributed to the counterculture.
The modular synthesizer (aka moog synthesizer), developed in 1960 by Robert Moog and Donald Buchla, marked a major change in serious music. Innovative composers were already experimenting with electroacoustic music. Now they were able to go further with John Cage's 0'0 (Zero Silence) to be performed by anyone in anyway; Morton Subotnik's Silver Apples of the Moon; Robert Ashley's Wolfman. In 1967, Alvin Lucier, one of the co-founders of the Sonic Arts Union, created "Music for a Solo Performer," in which electrodes were attached to the performer's scalp. His alpha waves, controlled by his concentration, resonated from loudspeakers, accompanied by occasional percussion. Computers were used in music composition and sound synthesis, notably Max Mathews' Music IV and Music V. By the end of the decade, popular music was also using synthesizers and other electronic devices.
