When it comes to watching other country's elections, we are very good at it.  However, we can't get our own elections straight.  As a FL voter, I am fed up with the way this election has been held and furious that my vote has NOT been counted here in the "land of the free and the brave".  My husband and I are both disabled veterans.  It is time to dismantle the Electoral College and start counting every voter.  Clinton should stay in the race as long as she is able.  If Obama wins the party, I will defect for the first time in my life...PERIOD!!!

FL has a poor history of counting votes (i.e., "hanging chads, etc.).  As soon as we are able, we are moving our of this state.

If your vote does not count, blame the Democrats...Howard Dean made that decision, supported by Obama and Hillary.

I agree that the Electoral College should go.
Every vote should count.
I don't care if every other person in my state votes for A, if I vote for B, I want my vote counted.
The best man does not always win.
In this election, the best man is not even running.
At least we in FL can say that we did not pick these losers.

You need to explore WHY we have an Electroal College before getting rid of it.

Our founding fathers were smart enough to establish our country as a REPUBLIC, NOT a Democrary!!

Under a Democracy, which our fathers saw the danger in, we have mob rule. The 5 most populated states could decide our president every 4 years, and the other 45 states would have no voice!!!

That is why we have a Republic and Electrol College. EVERY state has a say in an election, not just those with the largest population. It is sort of a check and balance they also installed between the 3 branches of government.

Don't be so quick to get rid of them...you may wish they were back when candidates only cater to a few states and cater to only their needs and desires at the expense of the rest of the country.

Sunshyne...as a fellow vet, you should still be angry at the way the Dems treated vets during the 2000 election in Fla!!!

Remember how then challenged EACH and EVERY military absentee ballot before being opened??? They assumed the vote would be for Bush, therefore did NOT want it counted!!!

If you really want every vote counted, ask the Dems why they disinfranchised the military during the 2000 election!!

Your party did this to you! Remember that! Now their silly little rules seem really stupid don't they?

My vote counted!

And yes Hitlery should stay in this race as long as possible, I like watching the fur fly! =)

I like the electoral college. It helps those who own land, pay taxes and are TRULY vested in this country have a voice instead of just mob rule.

I'm with Brenda, watchin' the fur fly.

Your vote doesn't count because YOUR party made that rule, and you all were too silly to follow it. Your party actually thought they could make these rules and then if things went awry, they could change them. Live with it, or change parties. Personally, I'll welcome any Dem who finally wakes up to join us in Nov.

Hey..LET'S face it..The ONLY votes that REALLY count are the ones that make up the differential between Candidates anyway..

ALL OTHERS Cancel each other out..LMAO..

It's the democratic party, you should know that in all the primarie's you have voted in your vote never really counted in the first place. Dont forget Americans dont have the right to vote in the primaries. That right is only granted in the general election.

Actually, there is no "right" to vote to begin with. A misnomer like right to privacy, and seperation of Church and State. All are technically incorrect.

Yes the 2000 election, the Democrats did EVERYTHING they could to keep the absentee ballots from being counted! Frankly, I will never understand anyone in the military even being a democrat to begin with!

Hillary needs to go all the way! I want the super delegates rubbed in the face of every democrat. Years of taking their leadership at face value, believing them when they said elections were being frauded by Republicans, yet never realized how peverted the democrats were to begin with! From Acorn signing up fake people, to even now CA man asking for 20 million bucks and will promise to register enough hispanics to win the election!!

Are you kidding me?!!

Can you imagine if that happened to the GOP. In fairness and so we dont rewrite history, most of the 2000 hanging chads, etc votes in Florida were the fault of the voter or the planning by Democrat lead county leaders.

I think I have it on video and will post it soon on You tube. But they had 4th graders with the same ballots in Palm Beach that confused voters. They voted just fine and the reporters laughed at the cluelessness of the Senior or any voter for that matter. The kids didnt double vote (voting for 2 Pres candidates) or miss vote (where voters voted for Pat Buchanan instead of the DEM candidate).

It would help if the US voter was a step ahead of moron as indicated on Jay Leno's Jay walking.

In response to all of the REPUBS comments to my blog, I can point out just as many "wonderful" things about various candidates as well. But isn't partisan politics what gets us into these issues to begin with? I can credit Bush with some good things he's done for veterans, much as I dislike him. Being a DEM doesn't make one ignorant any more than being a REPUB does.

The bickering needs to end...probably so do the parties. It is time to run for the office based on ability, credentials and integrity. I, for one am defecting to the REPUBS since the DEMS can't get their act together to run an election, much less the country! However, this is a "lesser of two evils" vote for me. There has to be a better way.

Look, I don't have a solution, but with enough people and so many serious problems, instead of just "LMAO", we'd do far better to resolve the issues. I apologize to anyone who has been unitentionally insulted. That is not my intent.

Partisan politics did NOT develop superdelegates on the democrats side, that is specifically the Dems keeping a trump card in their pocket in case their party member's elected choice does not fit the actual party's agenda or desires. Thats not partisan, thats just your Democrats. The fact that they also split up the state delegates instead of winner take all also illustrates it.

I understood the blog to be about voting and your vote not counting... I don't believe Fla has a bad record of counting votes...just some people are not smart enough to vote and I only know of one party that specifically went out to block people from voting...that was the Dems against the military!!

As for the Electrol College, I addressed that earlier.

At this point, it doesn't really matter who we vote for right now, pardon the expression, but everything is so screwed up. At this point we need to elect a group of Business People (including a good group of janitors) to get our Country back on track.

There was a time when I hated the Electoral College too. I was a fan of the popular vote. That is, until I started really listening to some of the ridiculous reasons why people chose their candidates. It was only then I began to understand why "mob rule" was not the best way to go.

I'm also glad that FlaNative clarified why we have the Electoral College. Political matters do not come easy to me, so I usually avoid discussing it.

I'll admit though, that I still have trouble understanding how the Electoral College and popular vote work together. Anyone know where I can learn about this, explained in plain english?

This is an interesting conversation. You want your vote to count but then again you don't want citizens to have a direct vote because they are a "mob".

hellooooooooo

YBSRobin... Well ya know, Bush is a businessman, and not your typical lawyer type. His economy has been more stable over the last 7 years, and dispite the depserate attempt by the left to make a mountain out of a mole hill as far as a slow down vs. recession, we are doing better than most.

Gas prices are up, but the market will fix that and if you notice the silence from the media about unemployment going down again, and small but still positive growth, you will see it.

YBSRobin, get some businessmen to get us on the right track? Only if they have proper qualifications such as belonging to the Chamber of Commerce and evidence of hiring illegal aliens. At least janitors should have skills in cleaning up.

Well, well, I seemed to have stirred up a hornet's nest with my political blog. That, my friends, is what is SO GOOD about our country and why we have young men giving their lives and futures. We all have our opinions AND we have every right to vocalize them.

I really don't care which party wins and admittedly am still unsure as to which candidate I vote for. I will not stick to any party lines...now or in the future. I will vote for the candidate/party that I feel will do the best job for our country.

Best of luck to all of you and thank you for your knowledge and participation.

OVER AND OUT...
