Beach vendors in Volusia County want to push the county to suspend beach tolls. the think the $5 a day per car charge is keeping people away. for those of you who live in Central Florida, how often do you take a day trip to the beach? which one do you go to? do you spend any money there? would you go to Volusia beaches more often if you got to drive on the beach for free?

I usually go just for 2-3 hours at a time to either NSB or Daytona Beach, but I never pay to drive on the sand. I park for free and take everything with me. the only thing I buy may be a soda or water at a gas station on the way there.

My family and I like NSB, mainly because of less of a crowd. We park in the public parking lot at the flagler ave area because we dont want to pay the toll. Its an inconvience to have to carry everything but why should we pay for something that free.

Why should you be allowed to drive on the beach at all? And why do you think it is"free"?
The county and the beach would be better served if noone drove on it!

I don't think anyone should be allowed to drive on the beach. People go to the beach to enjoy it's surroundings. The last thing anyone wants to smell is exhaust fumes, we might as well put a puddle in the street and go swimming in it. If people are that lazy to walk on the beach, then they don't belong there. If there are disabled people who can't get out on the beach, then I can see smaller atv's, golf carts, or something similar to help them back and forth. But other than that, if one has to drive, keep it on the road!

Never been to Daytona Beach and I too question
the logic of driving on any beach. It is a
very unique opportunity for people as not
many beaches offer it but, just like a couple
of you stated, why would you want to see cars
driving in front of you when you're trying to take in the sights of the beach?

No, I don't think there should be tolls for
driving on it. Beaches are god-given gifts for
everyone to enjoy for free. Did Volusia
County BUILD the beach? Well then...quit
coming up with nefarious, pulled out 'yer
azz- fees that do nothing but take the beaches away from it's citizens!

BTW, I know Volusia county has to maintain the beach like every other county but, everyone
already pays taxes for that.

I was born on the beach side of Daytona in a doctors office. I believe I shouldn't have to pay to go to my "homeland". It's like needing a passport to go to a national park.I heard that Bill Clinton gave administration of our national parks to the UN. Google it! By the way, disabled go on the beach for free in Daytona.
