A state lawmakers is proposing a law to ban talking on a cell phone while driving. unlike an effort earlier this year, this one wouldn't be for everyone...only teens under 18.

Is this a good idea just to single out 16 and 17 year olds, who presumably need to pay the most attention to the road? should it be for everyone? or should they just let us all talk and drive?

I think it should be illegal for anyone to talk on a cell while driving but even if they were to pass such a law, just who and how would it ever be enforced? Sometimes even the BEST solution is not obtainable so unless they are willing to prohibit the sale of cell phones to anyone under 18, this is just a pipe dream.

I agree with SlidingInSideways...No one should use there phone and drive…I see “adults” using there phone on I-95 going 80 and 90 MPH and I see “adults” using there phones going 65 MPH in the left lane…Gee, I wonder why there are aggressive drivers on the road?

I agree the law should be everyone not just teens. I've seen alot of idiots weaving and driving carelessly with a phone in their ear.
If the person is on the phone, their mind is primarily on the person on the other end, NOT on the road.

Have car manufactureres build in cell phone jammers in all cars. Then the damn thing won't work in your car! May be illegal, but something needs to be done. I had some jerk TAILGATING me and yep, the damn fool was running diarhea at the mouth on his damn cell phone. If it was MY car and not my mother in laws, I would have slammed the brakes on and let this a--hole rear end me, then sue his butt for every single dime I could take him for. Don't think I wasn't tempted!

When he got into the left lane next to me, I probably could have gotten myself shot, but I did yell at him to PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DAMN DRIVING, QUIT TAILGATING and HANG UP the BLEEPITY BLEEP BLEEP BLEEPITY BLEEP CELL PHONE YOU DAMN MORON!

And this guy was drving a fancy convertible sport car and was at least in hislate 40's t early 50's.

BAN THE DAMN CELL PHONE FOR EVERYONE.

And it may be illegal to have one, but I'm fed up and don't care, I AM BUYING A CELL PHONE JAMMER so I and the wife can HAVE PEACE and QUIET when we dine out, go to movies and KEEP these buttholes OFF THE PHONE when they're driving around us! Maybe when they can't get a signal, they'll just crash into a concrete pole because they'll be more interested in getting that technological piece of crap to function INSTEAD of paying attention to their driving LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING!!!!!! And they'll never know I have one or why there sorry cell phone won't or doesn't work! {INSERT EVIL LAUGHTER HERE!}

i see to many people talking on cell phone while driving, but to really get the picture of just how many there are ride a motorcycle. i dont notice it as much when im in my truck but on my bike i guess im much more defensive of alot of the crazies on the road it seems like almost everyone is on the phone. if any of you guys out there ride ill bet you have noticed the same, yes i think it should be for everyone. some of the kids where i work run up over 3000 minutes a month. would take me 10 years

hello everyone they do have built in cell phones. which are much better because you never have to take you eyes or hands off the road :) even my grandparents use it. but cell phones you have to hold should be illegal because how does it get in your hand??? its not talking on it thats bad unless you cant talk and do something at the same time, can you not walk and talk???? people seem to have to blame something but its not the objects fault it what people do to get the object that needs to be addressed. maybe they should pass a law that says all cars must have a built in phone system.. stop needing to blame something....

It will never happen. I heard something like
45% of the service carriers profits come from
ALLOWING people to use cellies while they drive.
Ya' think they want to give up that profit? Do you actually think there's a law maker out there that will actually stand up to Verizon, Cingular etc, etc....? Put the blame where the blame is due people, the corps.,their lobbyists, your local lawmakers and most of all, the parents that purchase this stuff for their kids...stupid...stupid...stupid!

Oh, and why does a kid need a cell phone anyway, running a business? Oh I know, they don't fit in unless they have one. Same way I feel that nobody under 10 should have their own
unsupervised computer and internet access.

the same applies for Motorcycles if the rider is under the age of 18 they have to wear a hemet.

They should ban all cell phones unless its hands free. I had a lady T-bone me casselberry because she ran the light while arguing with her BF. I wanted to stick her cell phone some where.. But I didnt want to go to jail..

I accually saw a 16 year old girl, i guess she was texting, drive through a hedge at a shopping center. I stopped and explained how stupid she was, and that her parents should take the car way from her. (that could have been someones elderly parent instead of a bush)..

I agree with most of you. Yes, you see it ALL the time.

I also question about the Police too.

They have computers in their cars. Isn't THAT distracting too?

You have to type in a plate while driving.

Where's their "concintration" at 70 mph Or more on the interstate?

Cell phones were MENT to be a Convienence but

too many people ABUSE it like everything else.

It really DOESN'T matter what age you are BUT

teens are LESS experienced driveing and SEEM

to "pay MORE attention" to Texting friends

than on the road.

You just CANN'T "multi task" while driving

PERIOD!

Drive Safe and "watch out for the OTHER person.

Have to say "person" so I can be Politically

Correct and NOT offend anyone ! LOL
