All 4 counties the train will run through unanimously approved the commuter rail. Volusia was the last today.

but you won't see and trains till about mid-2010. they still have to design and build stations, parking lots, and lay more track.

would anyone ride this thing? anyone live close enough to the tracks to make it worth it? or are we all still too addicted to our cars?

If I have to get into my car, I ain't gonna stop to get a train. I'm gonna keep on heading to work. I can't wait to see how much less traffic we have after this thing if finished.

Charlotte,South Carolina planned and built the commuter rail first. Then the city center around the new line. I've heard that their's is a model that has gained some world acclaim.Honestly, it will be of little use to me.

The real question is : Is commuter rail for the benefit of WE the people or the :property developers, realestate speculators, and the rental condo owners who's property values should increase ? Same for the Big Three Venues seeing as how they will follow the tracks?

what I want to know , is what happens to you when you get off the train at the station? how do you get to where you are going? unless you work within 6 blocks of the station, you have no other way to get to work! I have heard NO information on what you do to get to work when you get off the train!

Driving from Deltona to Orlando everyday, sitting in traffic, being cut off, waisting money sitting in back ups...

Yep, I plan on trying it to get to work the first day!!!

I'll be a user as long as I can get to OIA!

It will be nice to read the paper and ride in from Seminole. Given the continued growth in central Florida, I think the Commuter rail will have some success here...

For the 9-5 crowd and tourists it will probably work. It will not for any tradesman for any length of time. Mobility at a minutes notice is the WORD of the DAY .

thanks for the replies.

first, the rail won't run out to OIA. the existing tracks don't go that far East.

second, I think the plan is to have buses and/or other forms of transportation to get you from the station to work. lets say you live in Lake Mary and work in downtown, you'de still have to drive to the stop to get on then get on a bus when you get off to get to the office. there's a whole downtown trasportation plan that may eventually add light rail, trollies, buses, ect. to get people around. rail planners are also thinking some businesses may provide some type of transportation, like a 15 passenger van, to pick up people at train stops.

secondly, how many people from volusia actually work in winter park or downtown orlando? not that many I bet most are wage slaves to the theme parks. the qoute was 30,000 vehicles a day each way from volusia. yeah , and they'll all find parking at the train station in volusia? RIIIIGHT!! I suppose they will have security at these parking facilities to insure that the vehicles are safe from crooks. SUUURE! lets face it! It's only good for the people who work at RAT CITY! the average person won't need to access it. Like there's any need to take commuter rail TO volusia, unless you extend it to daytona it's worthless!

They should also extend it from Disney to I-Drive and places like this to let the tourists use it and keep them off our roads. They tend to clog things up looking around and causing accidents cause they are not watching the road.

I don't think anyone would ride it to Volusia. the idea is those who commute in to downtown from DeBary, DeLand, Deltona, ect. would ride to work. and I assume more would use it the closer you get into the city.

Actually Steve, there are STILL TRACKS out there at OIA, but they have been SEVERED, they could be reconnected and some added rail connected to get folks right up to OIA.

The tracks are out near where the fire department practices there training drills. They are rusty and I'm sure would have to be repaired, these tracks are what brought in fuel and supplies for the planes when it was McCoy Air Force Base.

But I'm sure the residents out there in the homes where the tracks would have to be relaid or reconnected may not be too happy about that.

Just like for commuter rail to really work, they need to TAKE BACK those RAILS to TRAILS and re-lay tracks, put in stops in the neighborhoods and then you'd have a great commuter rail infrastructure where you wouldn't even need a car to get to the train!

But you're going to have those that'll complain about that too. But that is the only way I see commuter rail really being of REAL SERVICE here.

I'd ride it, but where I live does me no good, there are no RR tracks in Casselberry, so if I'm going to have to "drive" to a train depot, this really DEFEATS the purpose of "commuter rail" now doesn't it?
