We've covered three MRSA cases in the area in the last few weeks. There are rumors of more...are you a parent who's taking extra precautions to safe guard your family? Do you find it interesting that only in recent years have we even heard of MRSA and it having the far reaching effects that it's had in this country. I've been on line and schools in other places are also being affected.

I covered the final day of the Stop Killing Start Living rally today. I met a very talented young man who has a very interesting story. He grew up on the streets on Miami/Dade. His mother and father were engulfed by crack cocaine addictions and he never saw them again. He lived with his sisters til he was 15 then became too much to handle so he turned to the streets. He wanted to be a rapper...and in the meantime he says he did it all...carjackings, robberies, drug dealing!!! Landed in prison three months later. During that time a minister prayed with him and told him about his ways and where they would eventually land him if he didn't get his life together. He also told him about God's love and forgiveness. He said upon receiving that message he decided to change. Now he's rapping across the world...as he says "for Jesus". He says he's been blessed with a beautiful little girl and wife. He says they're really living a blessed life. Now he spends his time when he's not working his on his job, telling young people about the world outside the world they live in that offers so much hope and positivity. Just wanted to share this...it'll brighten someone's day to know that people do change. Other's will  probably be cynical :-).

Two Ocala teens are arrested for allegedly beating a man because of his sexual orientation. They broke into his home, one held him while the other stole money from his wallet. They made derogatory sexual remarks while beating him. This stinks! I mean come on. Do we need to agree with someone else's lifestyle to see them as human beings? I don't like a lot of things I see, but that doesn't give me the right to go and just start beating them.

That's the theme of an event planned for this week. It's so heavy to me that we have to preach this to anyone. To me there's only one choice in that command. However, that's not the case for everyone. It would be so easy to place blame, but the truth is there are a myriad of reasons why this is happening in the first place. I really hope that the outreach ministry organization is able to really begin to break through and get to some of the young minds they're trying to reach. There is a huge world beyond the communities we live in...it's such a shame when one doesn't get to experience any of it because their lives and futures are taken way too soon!

A hit and run in Port Orange leaves two young children in critical condition after the man who hit them ran off. Investigators say they found the man's car abandoned not far from the accident site. I stopped by their home today looking to speak to the parents. There was a nice courtsize basketball goal in the yard where it's obvious the kids play ball together. It's amazing to me how someone can interrupt other people's lives like this; and in worse case scenario, destroy people's lives this way and tuck their tails and run.. How cowardly is this...to hit then run?

I was really surprised this morning to find so many people who didn't watch the debate. Many of them said there minds were made up and they didn't need Senator Biden or Governor Palin to solidify anything for them.  Others said they didn't believe either one of them anyway. Did you watch?

Shay Harris comes to sunny Florida years after her first family trip to Disney World, only to find a sprawling city that's still growing. Before arriving in Orlando, Shay spent almost three years in Memphis, Tennessee. Shay worked as a Reporter and Fill-in Anchor while in the Bluff City. In Memphis, Shay got to experience every kind of story possible; she was one of the first reporters to cover the nationally publicized story of "The Pastor's Wife", a slaying in Selmer, TN that took the networks by storm for weeks. She also experienced, first hand, the devastation left by deadly twisters in Tennessee and Arkansas. What Shay really enjoyed digging her chops into were exclusive stories of intrigue like how dead people "voted" in major elections... and other stories of mischief in city, county, and state government, stories like, The Tennessee Waltz scandal, as well as the kidnapping of a teenaged girl who escaped from the house of her captor where police returned to find drugs & child pornography among other things. Shay spent two years in Chattanooga, TN as an Anchor and Producer of the news and talk show, "News for Women". She also made stops in Jackson, TN & Beaumont, TX. From time to time you may catch appearances of Shay guest starring on the nationally syndicated shows "The Parkers" and "The Steve Harvey Show". While living in Los Angeles, she spent a year as the Project Director for Los Angeles County's largest Homeless Facility, "People Assisting the Homeless", some of Shay's most rewarding work. Shay is a lover of inspirational & empowerment books, in fact she has some literary works in progress of her own. She enjoys opportunities to play in charity softball games for the Boys & Girls Club, reading to & mentoring young children, speaking at empowerment functions that benefit women, singing at civic & social events and doing whatever it takes to uplift the community in which she lives. Shay enjoys watching movies, going to sporting events, cooking and those few rare moments to relax at home.
