It's really interesting to go to Biketoberfest. You see all kinds of people there. Some who look like they've lived life well, and others who, well seem to have allowed life to live them...depending on how you look at it. It's interesting though to see the mix. I consider myself to be pretty safe minded...however...it looks invigorating!!! I kind wished I could hop on one today by myself just to see if it's as great a ride as soooo many have declared. I just have this thing with being on the open highway with no physical protection ;- )...lol!

Good Morning! I just wanted to say that I love being on the back of a bike, although I have never driven one. I kind of feel like you do, and at times thought about getting a motorcycle license! It's amazing how many women have their licenses. Something you don't see alot of up north. You are right though, Biketoberfest (as well as Bike Week) is invigorating! Makes me almost want to flag down a biker and jump on the back! LOL!

The weekend race events had some great, no, makt that incredible (!) finishes. The first seven finishers in the ASRA Factory ProSportbike were seperated by less than a second on 4 different manufacturers bikes (none were on Harleys). Look for a young Jeff Wood to do well in the big March race. The Speedway reported an increase in infield attendance for the races. However, most news stations reported that the tough economic times had kept the poser count considerably lower than in past years. Going past the Cabbage Patch, it looked almost like an ordinary Sunday. Traffic on 415 was very light, and I easily got it up to over 110mph while passing the short lines of Hardly Ablesons.

Never really interested in Bikes, it makes a nice recreational vehicle, but most guys get too crazy with them, more power, mine is bigger, mine's faster... my bike is "prettier" I find most bikers are like gay men, they join these "clubs" so they can dress a like, wear leather, head scarfs, and show off, they both just love to accessorize.

Oh bite my biker tire Maxwells!!! Clearly you know nothing about bikers! And the club thing is not nearly as big as it was way back in the earlier days....the higher percentage is now independant riders! Bikers are charitable, always look out for one another, is supportive, and free and bikers, just like everyone is with their own vehicles, customize their bikes to make them their own! Don't knock it till you've tried it!

Actually, Maxwells, you do have a point. Most of the Hardly/cruiser poser crowd tries to emulate the image of real biker clubs from the old days. Seeing a dentist (realtor, ophthamolgist, etc) paddling along wearing leather chaps and a head band is a real hoot. His mommy wouldn't let him have a bike as a kid, now he wants to be Barney Bad Boy- perhaps the Walter Mitty syndrome. If he had to kick start that iron like a *real* Harley, there's no way he could fire one up. One thing I have never really figured out is why *real* biker clubs tolerate the copycat wannabees. Perhaps it is just to soften their image? Perhaps to have parts to purloin? Maybe to keep the cop pressure off? If that's it, then the strategy has really worked. You seldom see cops ticket them for loud pipes, illegal "ape hangers", DWI, etc.

I agree with BornToBeWild! People have a distorted image of bikers. Automatically they think, thugs, drunks, drugs, all of the nasty stuff, when in fact most are just average (or above) citizens who love to ride. Yes, most bikers are very charitable and are very involved with their communities in raising funds for many organizations. I belong to a private club, (not a biker club though) and the "bikers" who are members have several fundraising events throughout the year. When I lived in NJ the church that I attended had a "biker club" known as "Riders of the Lamb". They were such a wonderful group of men and raised funds for charities as well as being involved in a toy run every year to supply toys and gifts for children hospitalized with terminal illnesses.

No thanks BornToBeWild, I'm straight and staying that way! But to each their own, enjoy!

Don't fool yourself people. There are still gangs of scum out there. Head out to Bike Week and you'll find a large presence of criminals in a biker gang called The Outlaws. This gang has a federal rap sheet longer than your car. This past Bike Week they had a 8 year old little boy up on stage dancing with topless girls. Not a cop to be found in the place. The same place where the year before the Outlaws shot and killed someone.

Just because they aren't in your little world doesn't mean they don't exist. You need to be very careful and aware when you go to any of these places. You never know when you're sitting next to a rattle snake.

Cap is right....The Outlaws, the Paigons, & the Warlords are all within groups like Hell's Angels and they have done some really bad things as groups. But there are more groups now that isn't like that and more sprouting up each year with their own logo and title. I may party with them, ride with them, and even be best of friends with them, but I'm still independant and they don't hold it against me as I don't them! Even within those bad groups are friends I've known for many years and they have always shown me respect, again as I do them!

But I must admit that one Outlaw group up North did gang rape a very good friend of mine, left her for dead in a ditch, gave her 3 deceases. She got through it and found a way to get those same guys back! She earned her reputation within bikers!!!

Some small minded people watched to much TV and have the wrong impression of bikers. We bikers are normal everyday people, who in some cases are smarter than others because the form of transportation we use for recreation uses less fuel than boats, cars, and trucks. We enjoy the open road, the wind in our faces and yes some of the bugs are tasty. Basically its to each their own and if you dont like bikes its your choice but dont knock the ones that do.

Sorry Eric, but I disagree. There are all kinds of bikers. I've been one for 30 years. However there are some real bad eggs out there that totally deserve the reputation they have earned. They are scum, bottom feeders, and degenerates. Then there are others who are weekend warriors, and those like me who simply love the bike and the ride.

In other words, "We bikers" are not normal every day people. We are made up of all kinds of types of people. Some good. Some bad. But above all none of us are normal. : )

depends on your defination of normal.

yes some(a very small ammount) are scum but that is a small 1% of all bikers. I know this for a fact.

Shay Harris comes to sunny Florida years after her first family trip to Disney World, only to find a sprawling city that's still growing. Before arriving in Orlando, Shay spent almost three years in Memphis, Tennessee. Shay worked as a Reporter and Fill-in Anchor while in the Bluff City. In Memphis, Shay got to experience every kind of story possible; she was one of the first reporters to cover the nationally publicized story of "The Pastor's Wife", a slaying in Selmer, TN that took the networks by storm for weeks. She also experienced, first hand, the devastation left by deadly twisters in Tennessee and Arkansas. What Shay really enjoyed digging her chops into were exclusive stories of intrigue like how dead people "voted" in major elections... and other stories of mischief in city, county, and state government, stories like, The Tennessee Waltz scandal, as well as the kidnapping of a teenaged girl who escaped from the house of her captor where police returned to find drugs & child pornography among other things. Shay spent two years in Chattanooga, TN as an Anchor and Producer of the news and talk show, "News for Women". She also made stops in Jackson, TN & Beaumont, TX. From time to time you may catch appearances of Shay guest starring on the nationally syndicated shows "The Parkers" and "The Steve Harvey Show". While living in Los Angeles, she spent a year as the Project Director for Los Angeles County's largest Homeless Facility, "People Assisting the Homeless", some of Shay's most rewarding work. Shay is a lover of inspirational & empowerment books, in fact she has some literary works in progress of her own. She enjoys opportunities to play in charity softball games for the Boys & Girls Club, reading to & mentoring young children, speaking at empowerment functions that benefit women, singing at civic & social events and doing whatever it takes to uplift the community in which she lives. Shay enjoys watching movies, going to sporting events, cooking and those few rare moments to relax at home.
