Some Florida residents are standing against a water bottling company moving to the Groveland area. They say they fear this will put even more pressure on the St. John's River....because this will greatly increase the millions of gallons of  water that's already being pulled from the River for drinking water. The company has requested a permit from the St. Johns River Water Management District to pull 177 million gallons of fresh water out of the ground every year. Do you think this should be allowed with Florida already looking at water shortages? Do you think allowing the company in would deplete this natural resource?

And they are right! Every change makes a change! It would bring in jobs but at the same time makes geological changes.

Big Business making money off our natural resources?

I'm sure our "leaders" will give them permission for a little "consideration".

And the beat goes on.

According to Wikipedia It was designated as one of the American Heritage Rivers in 1997 and pegged by an environmental organization as the 6th Most Endangered River in America in 2008.

Making money off natural resorces is nothing new. Crystal Springs is located in Zephyrhills, it was beautiful. The water was unbelieveably crystal clear. You could get down next to the springs and watch it bubble up just beautiful. It is or was a family owned park. They were getting a big tax break for opening up to the public. One year out of the blue closed it, but still took advantage of the tax break... Until they got caught. Well since the Zephyrhills bottle company started pumping it I can tell you it is no longer a beautiful place.
Man has a nasty habit of ruinning natures beauty for profit.

Shay, these bottlers pull as much as a million gallons aday from the ground, then sent it all over the country. Ferneries in my area are just as bad, the one behind me has a permit to pull over 100 million gallons a year, for ferns, you can't eat, cows won't eat, can't make gas, that serve no purpose other than to make some flower look good. Our government is selling us out again and most people don't know and the other couldn't care. All THIS FOR THAT ALMIGHTY DOLLAR< WE ARE GOING TO LEAVE THIS COUNTRY IN GREAT SHAPE FOR OUR KIDS..
ST JOHNS WATER MANAGEMENT IS A JOKE... I sent Tom Sussi an E-mail a week ago about this subject and asked if he would do a story, But I know he wouldn't do a REAL STORY, he will only go after the little FISH...

The city of Jacksonville will most likely figure in this fight as well ! They are planning a legal battle to stop any more municipalities from drawing water from the St. Johns or it's tributaries for water needs. Conservation will not alter the fact that freshwater from the aquifer is diminishing, consumption due to growth has exceeded what can NATURALLY be replenished. Direct injection wells are used in many locations to take care of excess stormwater by draining it unfiltered into the Florida Aquifer, the same place your drinking water comes from. There has also been mention of direct injection wells for treated and disinfected sewage water.I'm not big on that idea, but it's bettered than the stormwater and whatever else that it may contain. Desalination plants will be a neccessity in the near future, will only the taxpaying resident be picking up the tab ? Great post Shay !

Bottled water is on its way out. Let em die in piece or bankruptcy. Are you buying tap water when you can put a filter on your faucet or get a filter pitcher? DUH

Shay Harris comes to sunny Florida years after her first family trip to Disney World, only to find a sprawling city that's still growing. Before arriving in Orlando, Shay spent almost three years in Memphis, Tennessee. Shay worked as a Reporter and Fill-in Anchor while in the Bluff City. In Memphis, Shay got to experience every kind of story possible; she was one of the first reporters to cover the nationally publicized story of "The Pastor's Wife", a slaying in Selmer, TN that took the networks by storm for weeks. She also experienced, first hand, the devastation left by deadly twisters in Tennessee and Arkansas. What Shay really enjoyed digging her chops into were exclusive stories of intrigue like how dead people "voted" in major elections... and other stories of mischief in city, county, and state government, stories like, The Tennessee Waltz scandal, as well as the kidnapping of a teenaged girl who escaped from the house of her captor where police returned to find drugs & child pornography among other things. Shay spent two years in Chattanooga, TN as an Anchor and Producer of the news and talk show, "News for Women". She also made stops in Jackson, TN & Beaumont, TX. From time to time you may catch appearances of Shay guest starring on the nationally syndicated shows "The Parkers" and "The Steve Harvey Show". While living in Los Angeles, she spent a year as the Project Director for Los Angeles County's largest Homeless Facility, "People Assisting the Homeless", some of Shay's most rewarding work. Shay is a lover of inspirational & empowerment books, in fact she has some literary works in progress of her own. She enjoys opportunities to play in charity softball games for the Boys & Girls Club, reading to & mentoring young children, speaking at empowerment functions that benefit women, singing at civic & social events and doing whatever it takes to uplift the community in which she lives. Shay enjoys watching movies, going to sporting events, cooking and those few rare moments to relax at home.
