Obesity is one of the hardest relationship issues to tackle. But lets talk about it anyway.... If one’s partner gains a significant amount of weight, is the other partner justified in breaking up with them?

How shallow is that.........I have been married 27 yrs on friday..and my husband has gained double from when we met, does that mean i love him less? NO i still love him no matter what he weighs, yes i wish he would lose some of those extra pounds, for health reasons, but i still love him.
Now if he were to gamble what little monies we have, or go boozing everynite all nite, or didnt support his family, or had an affair, or beat me those are issues to leave someone, but weight...how very shallow

nah , not me- we both put on weight since we were in our 20s but thats life- as you get older you almost always gain some weight..

however I heard the other day diabetes cases jumped 15 percent last year and a lot of that is due to weight.

Normal people do gain a little weight for every year they get older. Pretty shallow question coming from a reporter that is expected to not be overweight.

Call it what you will...it's a question. But the bottom line is you can stop by any divorce court and it's one of the reasons many divorcees use, in addition to some of the others listed by Swansong, for exiting a marriage. I think it's interesting that a lot of times the spouse complaining about their partner's weight, has usually gained some as well because it happens. However, for some odd reason they hold a different expectation of partners.

That is incredibly shallow. I've been out of the dating scene for a long time now. Is is really that bad? Are people's values/ideals that screwed up?

That is one question I have never had to answer. Been married 23 years and my wife has went from 115lbs to 128lbs & looks better with the extra weight. I have gained about 5 lbs in 23 years. We are not gym rats, we eat everything, and lots of it. Good genes I guess.

I'd say you and your wife have great genes! Lucky people! LOL

It does happen.

Just how fat are we talkin' about? I know a girl who is my size, 5'4", 123 lbs, who married a guy who was 5'9" 170 when she married him. Within 3 years he ATE his way up to 475 lbs, sloppy, sluggy, puffed up so fat his eyes were nearly swollen shut! She and his Dr.'s implored him to stop his destructive behavior, the non-stop fast food eating, the bag after bag of "Combo's", the Ding-Dongs, the buckets of KFC, sittin' on his fat rump the whole time, while SHE worked! She finally gave him an ultimatum: Stop, or I'm leaving. He picked the large bag of KC Masterpiece Chips, and the large bowl of french onion dip over her!

Deb,

Now that isn't being shallow...that is just nasty! If you gaing 300 lbs in 3 years that is a bit excessive and then you are too lazy to work...that is pathetic. What kills me is the fat people that wanna say they are disabled because they are fat. Uh, who ate the entire box of ding dongs and gallon of milk? Who forced you to do that?

God plays on many young men. They marry a slim attractive girl who explodes after having kids. My grandpa always told me to look at a prospective brides mother and grandmother cause that was a pretty good indictor of what you were in store for down the road.

Twizzled..... too funny, but true!
Todd, can you imagine that poor girlfriend of mine? And when he wanted to, you know, it makes me sick to even think about it, he couldn't even FIND it, it was buried so deep in all that lard!!!! He's SO fat, and SO lazy, I don't feel sorry for him, especially not when I look at the backseat of his truck, and see all the empty containers of every fast food place known to man.

Shay Harris comes to sunny Florida years after her first family trip to Disney World, only to find a sprawling city that's still growing. Before arriving in Orlando, Shay spent almost three years in Memphis, Tennessee. Shay worked as a Reporter and Fill-in Anchor while in the Bluff City. In Memphis, Shay got to experience every kind of story possible; she was one of the first reporters to cover the nationally publicized story of "The Pastor's Wife", a slaying in Selmer, TN that took the networks by storm for weeks. She also experienced, first hand, the devastation left by deadly twisters in Tennessee and Arkansas. What Shay really enjoyed digging her chops into were exclusive stories of intrigue like how dead people "voted" in major elections... and other stories of mischief in city, county, and state government, stories like, The Tennessee Waltz scandal, as well as the kidnapping of a teenaged girl who escaped from the house of her captor where police returned to find drugs & child pornography among other things. Shay spent two years in Chattanooga, TN as an Anchor and Producer of the news and talk show, "News for Women". She also made stops in Jackson, TN & Beaumont, TX. From time to time you may catch appearances of Shay guest starring on the nationally syndicated shows "The Parkers" and "The Steve Harvey Show". While living in Los Angeles, she spent a year as the Project Director for Los Angeles County's largest Homeless Facility, "People Assisting the Homeless", some of Shay's most rewarding work. Shay is a lover of inspirational & empowerment books, in fact she has some literary works in progress of her own. She enjoys opportunities to play in charity softball games for the Boys & Girls Club, reading to & mentoring young children, speaking at empowerment functions that benefit women, singing at civic & social events and doing whatever it takes to uplift the community in which she lives. Shay enjoys watching movies, going to sporting events, cooking and those few rare moments to relax at home.
