As you gear up for summer vacation, taking family trips and etc. I was wondering where are you going? What's your favorite city in this country to visit and why?

Shay ~ here is my list of my 10 favorites, not in order.
1.Bar Harbor Maine: for the fishing, food and natural parks you can find a thousand things to do. Don't miss the cruise to both Cranberry Islands or the great lobster to be had in Stonington.
2. Lake Placid, New York: Romantic! The daily lake boat trips are great and you see all the palatial so-called camps from the tur of the century.
3. Virginia Beach, Virginia: (I grew up here)You have the Chesepeake Bay for great seafood (Captian Georges is the best). You can go crabbing on 64th street. The strip offers great night life. You have the Botanical Gardens, Cape Charles and Seashore State Park all worth a visit.
3.Banner Elk, NC: At the foot of Grandfather Mnt, Sugar Mnt and Beech Mnt you can't find a better "small town". We lived here for 9 years and were never bored. In the summer there are lakes to swim in, mountains and caves to explore and sunsets that will take your breath away. You can raft, on the rivers and even find some pretty good rapids.
4.Charleston, SC: With all its southern charm and beautiful old buildings there is always something new to see. The beaches are great and don't miss the Lighthouse. Great southern cooking too.
5.Michigan City, Indiana: From the natural parks with great for bird watching to Lake Michigan you just can't go wrong.
6.Graniteville Missouri: You don't want to miss the Elephant Rocks State Park. The granite outcroppings here are like nothing you have ever seen and they are reported to be over a billion years old. Its a quite little town with great mom and pop shops and

resturants.
7.Natchez, Mississippi: This is the old south! You can't help but feel as if you stepped back in time.
8.Davis, Oklahoma: You have got to see Turner Falls. Its a great summer spot and the natural swimming pool at its base is wonderful.
9. Rugby, North Dakota: If you want complete quiet and no tourists this is your spot. The views are beautiful, the indian reservations are spectactular and the summer weather is perfect. Be prepared to do some sleeping under the stars because at night they look so close you can touch them.
10.Missoula, Montana: partly a college town there is always something to see and do. You are close to the Lolo National Forest so there is camping, great shopping areas, and the training facility for "smoke-jumpers". Its a family type town and one you will want to visit again.

There is my picks for great summer get aways in the States. Of course if I had my choice I would be heading to Cat Island but I need to find my passport for that trip.

Tallen - I've been to Bar Harbor, Missoula and Lake Placid all tops in my opinion.

I personally Like Portland OR and Seattle WA because after you check the city out you can drive a couple hours into some of the most beautiful country in the world.

Honestly though, if you really want to check some wonderful city's try Vancouver, BC or Montreal Quebec. Imagine cities where you can walk around after dark and not worry about being shot or robbed. Thats scary to me.

Stanfield, Or. pop...1200+ my hometown, where every dad wished they went to school, cause we had to walk to school uphill, both ways. at the foot of the blue mountains, the mighty Columbia river in sight.

Banner Elk, N.C....is the most beautiful place I have been, east of the Mississippi River. The Highest point on the Blue Ridge Mountain chain "Grandfather Mountain" are amoung the most beautiful views in the world. if you dont believe me watch the movie, "Last of the Mohicans" shot in Banner Elk and surrounding areas.

Sage if you wanna see the real Oregon, go inland. Portland is Oregon's black eye, to much crime and filth.

Sage ~ I agree that Oregon is beautiful and as Orygun said the inland part (is it called The Dall's?) is the greenest place I have ever seen outside of Ireland. If it wasn't the GREAT NORTH WET...lol I might even be tempted to live there. Just can't take all those gloomy rainy days.

TALLEN has good choices. I like the west however like Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara, Utah, Colorado, Idaho.. all citys there. I also like Boone, North Carolina (mentioned above Banner elk)area popular with Florida folks. People also seem to like New Mexico.

For a close visit.. Central Florida people seem to like Clearwater or Naples. I hate Key west... overrated.

Shay Harris comes to sunny Florida years after her first family trip to Disney World, only to find a sprawling city that's still growing. Before arriving in Orlando, Shay spent almost three years in Memphis, Tennessee. Shay worked as a Reporter and Fill-in Anchor while in the Bluff City. In Memphis, Shay got to experience every kind of story possible; she was one of the first reporters to cover the nationally publicized story of "The Pastor's Wife", a slaying in Selmer, TN that took the networks by storm for weeks. She also experienced, first hand, the devastation left by deadly twisters in Tennessee and Arkansas. What Shay really enjoyed digging her chops into were exclusive stories of intrigue like how dead people "voted" in major elections... and other stories of mischief in city, county, and state government, stories like, The Tennessee Waltz scandal, as well as the kidnapping of a teenaged girl who escaped from the house of her captor where police returned to find drugs & child pornography among other things. Shay spent two years in Chattanooga, TN as an Anchor and Producer of the news and talk show, "News for Women". She also made stops in Jackson, TN & Beaumont, TX. From time to time you may catch appearances of Shay guest starring on the nationally syndicated shows "The Parkers" and "The Steve Harvey Show". While living in Los Angeles, she spent a year as the Project Director for Los Angeles County's largest Homeless Facility, "People Assisting the Homeless", some of Shay's most rewarding work. Shay is a lover of inspirational & empowerment books, in fact she has some literary works in progress of her own. She enjoys opportunities to play in charity softball games for the Boys & Girls Club, reading to & mentoring young children, speaking at empowerment functions that benefit women, singing at civic & social events and doing whatever it takes to uplift the community in which she lives. Shay enjoys watching movies, going to sporting events, cooking and those few rare moments to relax at home.
