Getting Fat...

So I'm still amazed why I cant lose this weight? I got a new job last december and I put on 20lbs in under a month. I still exercise every day, either running 3 miles or riding my bike 15 miles. As it is right now, I dont think its the exercising that is really getting me. So if its not because I'm not exercising enough then what is it?

I'm guessing the Gummy Bears and Hot Tamales are probably part of this problem I'm having. This is pretty serious because I really love my Gummy Bears. I mean next to sex, Gummy Bears are the shiznitz and I dont say shiznitz lightly. So I'm posed with a dillema, I can get back to my 200lbs and lose the weight or I can keep running my ass off and stay at my plateua weight of 220lbs.

It really seems like a pretty easy decisions, right? I mean lose the Gummy Bears and get rid of the weight. No sugar become skinny. Well its not really that easy, like I said I love my Gummy Bears alot.

I mean when I get off work and gun it home, the one thing I can be sure will make me happy is those damn Gummy Bears. All I can say is &*$! them all, they will be my downfall, or at least I thought this might be true.

Little back history about me, I was an avid smoker for like 10 years and then I quit. Then I put on a little weight. Ok, I put on like 120 pounds (but it was lean fat.) To be honest I wasn't to unhappy with my weight either, I was perfectly fine being fat. In the end It was the fat jokes that pissed me off. I heard so many of them that the only thing they are useful for now is making fun of fat people.

I tell a fat joke and then the fat person will say, "Shut up you don't know what it's like to be fat!"

Then I say, "Yes I do! I was fat myself, till I got off my butt and did some exercising!" So in one way my fat jokes are done to motivate people to get off their butt's and do something. Still, it doesn't make me any less of a idiot for saying them I guess. But I digress.

The thing that makes people fat is not just eating, its not just being lazy and its not just being complacent with being fat, it's all the above. By saying no to all these things and deciding to make a change you will start to lose the weight!

When you finally do lose the weight you'll begin to notice that you can walk with out weezing, take the stairs with out the fear of having pit stains at the top! You can even have sex with out being in some insane position that isn't even in the Kama Sutra. Yes, those are just a few of the joys of going back to a normal weight. Yet then there's something else, responsibility.

You need to remember, you are responsible for your own actions. You are the one that will keep the fat off, you just have to remember to eat a little less, walk a little farther and not be complacent with what you are. It doesn't take a dramatic change, just a change. A half an hour a day to work out, trade out sugar for splenda and don't eat junk food (god I love potato chips!) Then your back to looking like someone that gives a damn.

On the other side of the coin if you're happy with what you are, screw the people and their jokes! I mean pretty soon they will be the minority.

Me, I'm going to stop eating the candy.

Have a good night guys.

Sour Neons and Blue Sharks are very good. I eat a bag about once a year. Haven't had them in a long time.

My first husband told people I couldn't sunbathe on the beach, because people kept trying to roll me back into the ocean. Among other fat jokes to rude to mention. LOL

When I was 20 years old I finally decided I was tired of being fatter than my friends, although I wasn't obese I was a size 18 (Today I'd be asked to be on THE BIGGEST LOSER hahaha) anyway I had this one guy that I would have died for...actually almost did. I lived on dexatrim and water for 3 and a half weeks. I dropped to a size 8, and I looked great. Unfortunately I had a stroke on my left side and spent 28 days in the hospital with everyone saying I'd never walk again. I was too ashamed to admit that I had been living on those two things. I did recover with no apparent affects Thanks to God. I finally got that boys attention and found out he was a real jerk who still said I was beautiful inside if I could just loose some weight.
Now in my older years I know WHO I AM and I LIKE who I am, and there is just a WHOLE lot more of me to love than the average bear. But I wouldn't trade me for any size...I'm perfect just the way I am.

I applaud you WVALADYBUG, the most important thing is to love and respect yourself regardless of your appearence. Most people never learn that.

I still try to encourage people to lose weight when I get the chance, I might have been crass above about the jokes and such but I seldom do that. I try to tell people that it's not that hard to do. It's the same as getting up every morning and making a pot of coffee or taking a shower. It's just got to be part of your routine it's really that easy. The hard part is not changing up your routine.

But first and foremost is to be happy regardless, if you're not, then getting healthier and living a long life just prolongs your unhappiness.

Sageman, you were not crass my friend. You have a very good blog here. I tried to lose weight to win love, because no one ever tried to encourage me to love myself. I have a 13 year old daughter and she is beautiful to me just the way she is and she says she likes herself. She has a few friends that are like a size 00 or some strange size ( I say worse than twiggy(i'm sure you may remember her) and when they are with my daughter they talk about how fat they are. I see them in a few year (if not now) suffering from bulemia or other eating disorder. One friend comes for the wekend and never eats a bite of anything. My little girl comes out and eats cereal and sandwhiches, and all manners of food and it doesn't seem to affect the eating habits of our guest. I feel aweful that she doesn't eat.
I laugh and make jokes about my weight on every website i own, but it's because I want people to know that GOD sees our inside, not this shell we live in ( AND I live in a VERY BIG SHELL my friend). This world only wants to have PERFECT PEOPLE with a PERFECT SMILE, PERFECT SKIN, and PERFECT BODY...no wonder so many people commit suicide...look what they live with everyday...no wonder they give up. If we all could learn to love each other just the way we are...That would be a perfect world.
I am all for being healthy though. I amaze my friends that I have no high blood pressure, no medical problems, although I could afford to lose more than a few pounds.

I agree, I don't think people should lose weight for appearance alone. I encourage it for the benefit it has promoting good health.

In this day and age you are exactly right, we impose an impossible body image on women. There is no way we can expect women to be what these magazines portray them as.

Like you said, perfect people are too perfect to try and excel towards. These girls look a lot like everyone else anyways, except they wear a lot more makeup, and have a lot more air brushing done.

I disagree with teens dieting unless it's for health reasons. It's important to encourage children at this age to be happy with who they are. Either way it's never to early to encourage our children to be active and participate in some exercise.

I remember the daughter of a woman where I worked that had been overweight and took up swimming, she lost 40 pounds and is now down to a healthy weight. She still thinks she's fat because no one has taught her about a healthy body image.

I have a bit of a weight problem myself, though I'm doing much better than before. I was never grossly obese, but I wasn't exactly healthy either. 18 months or so ago, I weighed 193 lbs. I'm now around 174. Still not the ideal weight, but hey, at least I can fit into those old jeans again! I couldn't even zip them before, now they're actually a little loose.

I didn't really so much go on a diet as I just trained myself to eat less. I didn't do anything special, I just learned the difference between actually being hungry, and just wanting food. Granted, I still slip up occasionally, especially on Fridays, but so far, so good.

Do you drink a lot of soda, Sageman? I had trouble getting under 185 for a while, then I really cut back (though didn't stop drinking completely) on the soda. That seemed to help.

For those battling the bulge here is a quick recipe that will fill you with good things and help you move past that plateu.

This all goes in one big pot and can be eaten anytime.

1 med head of cabbage quartered
1 package of low sodium kilbasa
1 small can of tomato paste
1 small can of tomato sauce
1 bunch of celery hearts cut in small peices
1 small bag of baby carrots who whole
1lb of fresh green beans
1 can of low sodium corn
8 cups of beef broth NOT STOCK (boxed is fine)
1 package of either Baby Bella sliced mushrooms or plain white sliced mushrooms
1 med onion

Toss it all in a big stock pot and cook till veggies are tender. EAT YOUR FILL ANYTIME YOU LIKE! This also freezes well.

This combination works on your metabolism and will help cleanse your system to jump start you and get you pasted that plateu. It works a it tastes great!

Final note...NO SODA AT ALL the combination of sugar and carbonation slows your metabolism and will make it twice as hard to lose.

Good luck and happy eating!

I think I may have eaten this before, TAllen. I had a co-worker that used to bring his "cabbage soup" for the potluck. He'd bring in a big pot, and there was never any left over at the end of the day. People started bringing in containers so they could take some home. I always wondered how he made that, and I wasn't even a big fan of cabbage.

If this is the same thing, I'm DEFINATELY going to try this when I have a chance.

J_Darrowin, This recipe has been around for a long time and is a staple in German fare. It is delicious, nutritious and filling and has little in the way of calories. If you are missing the "meaty" feel you can also add some canned kidney beans to the mix just be sure to wash them good under cold water before adding them to the soup.

If you do try it let me know what you think. Its one of my favorites on cold nights!

I have been an actor, writer, and journalist, among other things. Currently I am getting ready to go back to school. I think that news, as clichè as it sounds, is one day away from being history. I enjoy reading, writing, running, biking and swimming. Ironically I hate the Triathlon. Yet I believe exercise is the key to a happy life! Politically I'm a Moderate Democrat and I listen to anyone's views, the only thing that really irks me is people who insult others for having different views. Which often makes me insult them in turn. I guess that makes me a Hypocrite... At least I won't be lonely.
