I dont see what is so hard about a company doing what is right to get this stuff off of their server.

Maybe they are worried about stepping on the (rights) of those who wish to view it

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has notified Comcast Corp. that the state will take legal action against the media company if it doesn't take steps to reduce the availability of child pornography on the Internet.

Cuomo wants Internet providers to remove certain newsgroups that contain child pornography and purge their servers of child pornography Web sites. Newsgroups are essentially online message boards in which users can post text and files in any of thousands of categories.

New York has already reached agreements with several providers but Cuomo accuses Comcast of being unwilling to sign the code of conduct his office created.

Comcast officials did not have any immediate comment but said they were reviewing the attorney general's letter.

Great post ! Is it censorship, hell yes ! Is it needed, hell yes ! The rights of an immoral minority pursueing illicit activities should be denied. I certainly don't see this as a freedom of speech or art issue. I also don't see ending illegal activity as the road to loosing rights to any or all legal activity.

Cuomo is going after the wrong people, displaying his utter lack of understanding of how the Internet works.

These newsgroups and websites do not reside on Comcast's servers. They have their own servers. The best Comcast could do is filter out their IP addresses. But these people are clever -- they'll find a way around the filters.

The company to go after is ICANN for the IP addresses -- it controls the DNS servers. And then the bulletin board hosts.

But good luck with that. They'll all laugh at Cuomo.

Cuomo = Don Quixote, tilting at windmills.

Returning to reality, the only way to combat and defeat these purveyors of horrible filth is to STOP BUYING THE PRODUCT!

Stop buying the product? That's like telling the creep that downloads child porn to stop downloading it! Comcast can only do what they can. Hackers are well known to getting around trouble shots and filters.

All internet web sites should be checked out and if offensive or advertises porn in any way then they should be terminated on the spot and requested for the host to make future references in their files! The only problem with that also is some of the programs on the net offer free hosting making it harder to keep accurate offensive files!
