"All riches are ours... the Islamic nation has all or nearly all the oil and we have an economic philosophy that no one else has," Qaradawi said.

He urged Muslims to "profit from the crisis to bring about the triumph of the (Islamic) nation, which holds the spiritual and material resources for victory."

Keep your eyes open! Keep your stockpiles ready...cause we aren't going to be able to survive another catastrophe or economic set back from another attack....don't count on your government to protect you either.

not gonna happen, you have a better chance of having a Revolutionary War than another terrorist attack.

LOL! As crazy as that sounds.... oberxposed has a point!..

Some here are actually suggesting that the current global financial crisis is actually economic terrorism! Now thats a topic Id like to know more about...

While terrorist do like the shock/awe aspect for public vision... they do have a side that is very meticulous and patient. I'd almost buy into it, but then why then are oil prices dropping as hard as they are? A ruze?

Certaily would make a good movie or episode on 24...

Abunai, the thought of it being economic terrorism has crossed my mind as well. I wonder if this is the next step to what was started on 9-11. Seems to me that could have been the key to opening the door which is what they were really after. Think about it...we did not react to the situation by going after the mastermind, we instead waged a war on a different front, while allowing our own defenses down here at home on the economic front. We have seen an increase in foreign investors and companies since 9-11 and many more foreign dollars entering the markets world wide. Is it possible that this is a planned strategy to eat us from the inside out? They are meticulous and patient and that makes me question just how much control they really have. As for the oil prices...well what better way to insure a strong hold than to jack up the prices for a time to place fear in a community that depends heavly in it, only to release that hold once they have their foot in the door??

LOL anything is possible I guess.

I fear your right. We are under attack the worlds bank was computer system was breached and our economy is falling apart. Here we are ready to give the White House who,by lending his companionship, supports domestic terrorist. We need to Wake up and smell the coffee guys. We are letting the Trojan Horse have the keys to our country.

Hogwash. We need to get back to being a self reliant
nation and develop our own resources. We have plenty.
Also, strengthen our borders/security. There is no
excuse for this mess. Our government has been
sloppy for the past eight years, and McCain would
have us continue down the very same path.

Anyone Remember the 3 mile island incident?

still think nuclear is safe?

ask Russia they were quite so lucky at cherynoble however ya spell that.

as long as the private sector holds the keys to such dangerous plants we are all in Danger. They have proven time an time again they can not be trusted to do the right think, it's the bottom line they care about.

Yes, I think nuclear energy is safe. When have we ever had an accident that killed over 3000 Americans in less than 2 hours?

DaytonaFrank read my blog view my photos

3 mile island was the ONLY incident! How many nuclear power plants do we have?

With todays technology, an accident like Chernoble is almost an impossibility.

It isn't at all hard for me to string 9/11 and this economic attack together.

They were both planed by the same people and there will be another attack, sooner rather than later.

Sad thing is there isn't a damned thing we can do about it, the people lost control of this country long ago.

About the Nuclear Thing.

Flying commercially is the safest mode of transportation on the planet. Commercial jets crash .people die.

How many people died in 2005 from anything nuclear ?

Now how many died from oil in 2005 ? 45800 ( Ballpark ) oil propels auto's, auto's crash people die.

Before you say the oil didn't kill them, neither will plutonium. It is the alpha particles that kill ya.

Ok, FIRST, as most of you know, I’m supporting McCain. So don’t assume that I’m a tree-hugging liberal. I’m just informed about this subject and we all need to be much MORE informed. My concern is mostly with the Radioactive Waste. The more plants we build, the more we have to store (and find SAFE places/room for it) and ship around the country (crossing our fingers there’s no accidents). How LONG do we have to store it? That’s what blows most people’s minds. The Half-Life of the waste (time for it to become 1/2 as Radioactive – still deadly) varies by Isotope and there are 100s of different kinds created by fission:

-- Sr90 – fission: 29 years, NOT “SAFE” for 290, replaces calcium atoms, gets into food & water & replaces calcium atoms in our bones, where it causes cancer
-- Am241 – decay: 400 YEARS
-- U238 – enriching: 4.468 --BILLION-- YEARS, 4 units produced / 1 unit of the U235 Fuel needed, which is LOTS
-- Pu239 – decay from U238: 24,000 YEARS, not JUST radioactive, Extremely toxic too, & Lots of it

There are 100s more (google “Nuclear Waste” or read “Fundamental Physics, 2nd Ed., Extended, Halliday, Resnick”). That last one, Plutonium239, is produced BY the decaying U238 during storage. It can be used to make Nuclear Weapons (or just pour into our water).

For that time, we have to protect it from Terrorists, Plutonium Thieves, and hope that nothing leaks into the air or water, that there’s never an Earthquake or other destructive weather event, never a war on our soil, no accidents during sh

shipping, etc., etc., etc. FOREVER. And that these containers we make will last that long – EVERY one of them. I don’t have faith that we could make a container that would maintain integrity for 100 years, not to mention that some will surely leak long before our most conservative estimates (there are always defective units, unforeseen damage, imperfect seals, unknown effects from the reactions over time, etc.) And the more plants we build, the faster those “SAFE” storage places will fill-up, and the higher the chances a truck or train-load is involved in an accident.

In my opinion, we should use ANYTHING and EVERYTHING – EXCEPT Nuclear.

Wind, sun, and steam are FREE forms of renewable energy
that can be utilized off-the-grid, and no $$$ for oil barons.

DaytonaFrank read my blog view my photos
Oct 15, 2008 | 7:16 PM

Are they FREE? How much does it cost to build the equipment to harvest these FREE resources?
Will the output justify the cost? No.

Nuclear is the way to go. While the waste is a problem, I am sure it can be successfully contained and monitored. It already is.

It's not like we are dumping it in the ocean.

Wind is useless if the wind is not blowing.
Sun is useless on an overcast day, or week, or month.
Steam was used years ago, and still is in some cases. As a major energy source, it is also useless.

Hydro electric power is a good way to use nature for energy, but there are only so many places you can build dams, and I believe we have used and are using all of them.

Nuclear is the future, like it or not. It is the only clean, efficient, reliable way to generate power for the masses.

CynPro read my blog view my photos

Wind (air movement) is blowing to some extent
most of the time. The more effecient the wind
turbin, the better it is able to utilize lower
wind speeds.

New technology is solar panels now allows them
to collect the sun's energy even when overcast.

Stream has powered engines for cars and trains
in the past and stream power could be utilized
again I believe in larger factory applications.

If a family pays $200 moly on an electric bill,
which would be $2,400 yearly, and a good solar
system would cost them approximately $20,000.,
they would have recouped their investment in
less than 10 years and start paying virtually
nothing for power after that point.

For a family in their 30's to invest in free energy,
would mean that by the time they are age 45,
they would not pay any more for electricity.
From age 45 to 65, they would only cover repair.
Can you imagine what a blessing that would be
for retirees on fixed incomes?

DaytonaFrank read my blog view my photos
Oct 16, 2008 | 7:41 PM

Wind is blowing in certain areas much of the time. True. However the equipment cost vs output is sadly lacking. It may be good for certain areas, but is only a partial answer.

Solar is worse. While it has gotten cheaper, so has the product. The collectors today are plastic, which deteriorates rapidly in the sun.
They would have to be replaced regularly thus consuming any real savings. Also, they are pretty much useless in the northern states.

Steam was used in the past, and the reason it is not used today is because it is inefficient. For use in factorys, it would cost more in energy to heat the water, than it would cost for electric. Again, the cost of equipment, the plumbing, the tanks, and the maintenance would be astronomical.

Nuclear is the only sensible answer.

I can not buy a nuclear plant for my house,
but I can have wind, sun, and steam.

Nuclear is no answer for me.

CynPro read my blog view my photos
Oct 16, 2008 | 10:57 PM

BTW, Obama supports alternative free energy.
Why would I want to PAY for energy, when I can
have a system producing FREE energy?

That would be silly.

DaytonaFrank read my blog view my photos
Oct 17, 2008 | 6:48 PM

You keep saying FREE, like it is really free. Yes wind and sun are free, when the wind is blowing, and the sun is shining. How do you harvest this "free" energy? Can you do it for "free"?

How much would a wind turbine cost for your house? How much would solar cost? How in the world could you use steam? What would heat the water?

A clean, efficient, nuclear power plant could supply your home with energy for a fraction of the cost to you of harvesting these "free" energy sources.

While I do like the concept, it is not feasable. Nuclear is the immediate answer for the growing power needs of this nation.

Perhaps natural energy sources could supplement it, but the bulk of the power requirements of this country can only be met by nuclear power. Clean burning coal is another possibility, but still more expensive in the end, which is your electric bill.

About $40,000 would cover both solar and wind systems.
There's a good article HERE if you're interested.
Many states offer energy rebates, as well as federal.

DaytonaFrank read my blog view my photos
Oct 18, 2008 | 6:31 PM

Well, $40,000 would pay my electric bill for 40 years.

CynPro read my blog view my photos
Oct 18, 2008 | 7:26 PM

That's before incentives, and before considering
that prices are likely to continue dropping.

Also, Obama supports creating manufacture jobs
here to produce quality systems, which will help
to improve our economy, as well as our environment.

The above was figuring tandem systems which
would be capable of supplying an off grid home.

Also, consider that electric bills go up.
People would be paying more in the future.
And if you are in an area where you can link
to the grid, most will buy your surplus energy.

Figuring an average electric bill of $200 per month
for a small family home, comes out to $2400 yrly.

That comes out to paying the electric company
about $24,000 every 10 years, and having no
equipment in return. No investment in the future.

If you only pay $100 moly, seems the best thing
to do would be to invest $5,000 in only solar.
It would pay for it's self in about 5 years.

And if it had to be replaced in 5 years?

Or needed major repairs? No thanx!
