So here we go again an oil billionaire is advocating a “plan” to end our dependency on foreign oil, go to www.pickensplan.com ...he is pushing for “Wind power” and even has a nice wind map on his cite to show us how much power is available....LOL

OK so here is the thing , he fails to point out any of the important facts about Wind power (and for good reason) Fact 1 “wind power” is useless in most of America because wind comes in two categories in most places non existent (no power) and so strong that it destroys wind generators...potential for wind power generation in Florida is “0” ! Fact 2 Wind power can only replace our dependency on coal (look at the graph on his own cite!) its a dead end and a distraction from our oil consumption ! And * is that not very convenient for an oil tycoon ? Pushing an idea that will not affect his pocket ! LOL

One more thing he mentions natural gas , I can say that we do have tremendous amounts of natural gas in this country BUT he is opposed to any and all drilling in this country and fails to point out that you must drill for NG ...he “talks a good game” put sticks the knife in when you are not looking !

You all failed to embrace Ethanol/solar/wind/atomic/NG power plans when they where proposed by an Oil man (President Bush) why would anyone respond to a narrower outlook from yet another oil man? ...

Why would we? It sounds like a lame idea to me! What's your take on it, RNC?

Thanks Deb yellow dog is a fat yellow lab and “Gumby” is a skinny Mastiff he was a rescue poor thing was living in an apartment ! He is gaining weight slowly but still only weighs about 260 lbs I hope to get him filled out before he turns 3 ! LOL
I think you know where I stand on this one ...its another distraction from making any real progress...I like ethanol and NG for replacing our dependency on oil , we can plant crops year after year and as it turns out we have more natural gas than any one els in the wold (China has some but not as close to the surface as ours!) ...I say “oil boy” is blowing wind up my butt !

While its good that an oil man is willing to consider alternative energy (then again, aren't all of our oil companyies invested in this?), he apparently doesn't know his history.

Wind power generators have been advocated before. However, due to the numerous protests, by of all people, environmentalists (they claim the windmills would block scenic views, endanger birds, etc) and the typical NIMBY (Not in My Back Yard) activists, they've never become popular.

I don't think he's going to have any real success, unless he comes up with something ground-breaking.

I would rather see the change to solar power for electricity. I have a friend in New York who sells power back to the electric company each month. What a sweet deal he has.

...point is all oil companies LOVE solar power and now they are going to embrace wind as well...but Not because aether one is practical in any way, the reason they push those forms is because they have absolutely no effect on oil and never will. Even the most glowing and over the top report on Wind power states that we could never develop more than 12% to 15% (wind speed variable) of our electric needs from wind . And “solar power” is the ultimate dead end it will never produce more than 3% of of our electric needs (some say 5% but that would be 5% of our year 2000 needs) and again 0 on fuel needs.
This add campaign caught my attention because it is a covert push for Obama/Democrats in that it is not about energy development or independence but rather a promotion for “not drilling” .

suncor (aka sunoco phillips66 retail end) is jointly involved in 170 mw's worth of wind power.. their partners are aconnica (sp?) and enbridge (they have the worlds longest liquid petroleum and crude pipelines).. I didn't bother looking up the other companies see if they were involved in more projects..

Two guys i used to work with are working in the wind fields (within that red area on the map). I know that one night I talked to the one he said they were going to be busy after the 60 mph gusts. He said most of it was just checking though.. There is 175 MW of wind turbines in that area and provide power to 1/3 of the households.

to lazy to figure a % out lol. we import more electricity than we export. As we are tied onto Mexico and Canadian grids. every little bit helps and it seems American oil is behind the curve once again.
Total imports: 42,691,310 MW/H
Total exports: 24,271,335 MW/H

Now as I understand it commercial wind generators go into “standby” at wind speeds above 55/60 MPH to avoid damage ...and smaller turbines are “not rated above 50 mph” I was looking for a system that I could buy last year and fact is in this location I will be risking my investment because our winds run above the “rated maximum capacity” of anything I can but this side of $60,000 ....
I have a real chip on my shoulder because we got shorted all the way around here in Florida ! Wind potential=low Hydro electric potential =0 Solar power 1st PV = low (that is everybody really) 2nd thermo solar = LOW (we don't have enough thermal offset) ...and we have zip for natural gas deposits ! So we really got the shaft when it comes to alternatives to oil/coal/nuclear power ...that and the problem is actually “gas” or oil which is all about transportation and agriculture and has almost nothing to do with electrical power.

And why would that be ? You where far from shy in your hatred of Bush even when he advocated some of the same ideas in his energy plan...Is this guy your “friend” because he is insanely attacked to NO DRILLING EVER UNDER ANY CONDITION ? Are you both so in live with the far far far far far left that you will continue to perpetuate the oppression of the American people and exploitation of the under class for personal gain an all cost ? I for one an very sick of far left nuts like you two flipping and flopping to whatever it takes to keep America down !

Where was he 20 years ago? OIL man. WInd is a good idea but the Nukes have to go up too. JUst like we fought WW2 with everything... we have to do everything now.

THe liberals who have been faxed the talking points to have the "oil companies use the 68 million acres of existing" leases are liars.

The Destin Dome which is part of that existing acreage which has MASSIVE amounts of Natl Gas is not getting approval by Congress... so when you hear that lie, remind them of that.... or call NJ Senator whats his name Menendez (indicted Menendez BTW) ... he is the one refusing to get that Gas.

Our government was conducting wind power research at least four decades that I am certain of. It has tremendous potential, but like everything else, the special interests have been able to keep it from happening.

Power companies among others, don't like losing control. And the extreme environmentalists don't want anything "unnatural" in our environment.

RNC,
Keep America down??? Leftist??? Oh very much the opposite. We need cheap gas to fuel our economy as new sources of energy are developed in the coming years. I don't give a rats BLEEP if its coal, nukes, wind, solar, hydro, or methane given off by all the BS coming out of DC. And I do not agree with not drilling. Hell, I want to see oil rigs off Daytona if thats what it takes. I have always favored that. While I'm at it lets get some Iraqi oil to help offset the lives and $$$ that has cost us. The worst thing we can do now is nothing while more of our countries wealth is transfered to Bush's buddies, the Saudi Royal Family.

RNC, sorry for the delay in my reply...
Have you tried giving "Gumby" Calf Manna? If you're still trying to put weight on him, you can sprinkle it on his food. (it turns it all creamy-dogs love it)
So, what's the bottom line here? Is this solar plan a bunch of malarkey? I'm all for becoming independent of foreign resources, but can we? Will we?

Ronco, you talk out your butt and your "facts" are usually untrue.

Despite your unique system of ranking, Florida has great solar potential.

If you think otherwise please show some proof.

Thanks Deb he is gaining about 5 LBS every two weeks ...just has a long way to go to fill that skin !
As far as “solar power reducing our oil consumption” that is the biggest myth of all ! Solar , wind , hydroelectric etc. can never replace any oil because we do not make electricity from oil we make it from coal ! And where is coal produced ? Any one ever hear about us facing a “coal crisis” ? ...so an oil man selling “electric power strategies” is just another in a long long list of scams to distract us from the real issues.
And Mister “I sell solar panels” (Northton) my facts are just that FACTS , you are selling lies...Florida has very limited potential for solar power , PV is a waste of money and thermo solar is limited to areas of clear sky's and COLD nights ! Your worse than an idiot you are a part of the scam that keeps us from moving forward.

I wrote this to address the hard LEFT agenda that plans to keep us Dependant on foreign oil and to keep us in a down ward spiral ...it is a FACT that Democrats flourish in a bad economy, the average American is willing to dispense with all logic and march against “windmills” when times are hard.
Actions by this congress and plans by Obama are guarantied to keep us where we now are ...when you tire of shaking your fist at your boss and grow up perhaps some of the facts will interest you.

BTW Jim , I know that we can not EVER have a future without oil...Bush lifted the executive ban on drilling ...who is holding it up ? Who is demanding that we never drill ? Who wants America to “cut back , live forever with less . Pay MORE for what we have and take a much smaller roll in the world ?” That would be Obama poster child for a “Third World America” in the future.
There is NO question about you seeing oil rigs off the beach at Daytona in the future (you will!) the only question is who's flag will be on them.

..it is an obvious scam for his part he gets to keep making money on oil for his “partners in crime” (the government) on the right Republicans get to keep their reputation for siding with business and on the left Democrats get to keep the economy “bad” so they can keep/get seat in power....the only “loser” is the average american.

TBP is a billionaire, and worth some consideration. It isn’t often that I side with a Republican, but TBP makes sense. With that said, why on earth should anyone give you naysayers any consideration.
