Solar isnt the cure with low efficiency (like 18 percent) so we need a totally new SOLAR Technology that is better. Forget ethonol... it costs as much to make in Oil,

I want a leader, or me, to start a Moon landing committment that will get something new. But in the meantime drilll in Anwar (the drill area the size of Orlando Airport), and Build the nuclear plants. While probably keeping the nukes building, if they come up with a new Super battery or Solar panel, Oil wont continue to drill when Oil drops back down to 1999 Barrel prices. Take out Oil, you cure alll this mess.

I do not disagree about drilling NOW because we have the oil to be independent (and kick the snot out of the market at the same time) ...but the bad PR against sensible integration of Ethanol is all driven by the oil company and its deep pockets affect on our own government ...fact is we burn almost 100 billion gallons of fuel each year in cars and trucks , it is our single highest “energy” need and there will NEVER be a replacement for liquid fuel fact is 1 gallon of gas contains 34 KW of power that is equal to the full daily out put of 300 acres of solar energy a gallon of ethanol (E100) contains 29 KW both can be transported and stored . As far as production cost being “high” in regards of ethanol this to is a myth the largest cost involved with ethanol (76% of the total cost) is transportation/distribution and this has been sabotaged regularly by the oil companies who are being expected to provide this for a competing product.

1 ethanol cost $1.60 a gallon to produce even when you add the $.54 “tax credit” to that figure you still have a unit price of $2.14 that IS less than gas !
2 True but far from the insane figures you so love to tell E85 reduces MPG in a car designed only for regular gas* by 15% to 20% ....*flex fuel cars are regular cars with larger fuel filters and nothing more!
3 this is a myth generated by the oil interests and pundits who get rich from oil interests. You as a liberal are more than happy to spread this disinformation because you hope that no one will question it merit or your motive !
4 This is an out right lie ...pollution produced by E85 is in fact 87% less than buy the same vehicle on gas and it is 95% less on E100 !

I am now totally confused, as I thought for years they have tried to enhanced Solar Power and supposedly it was doing wonders even homes were being built solely on Solar......Ethenol....I have to agree with TG on that one....not a good resource. Great post RNC08........lol

Fact is every one who has something bad to say about ethanol spends less than 10 minuets thinking about the subject and NO time researching any of the facts before repeating the (ironically) liberal hate speech against it.
This is called “the willing suspension of disbelief” ...and it is all nice and well to dream of “free clean solar power “ but it is just that : a fantasy ! It exists along with flying cars and vacations on Mars.

As far as my "plan" I didn't actually outline a plan. I simply tried to point out that the present sale of ethanol as an additive of less than 10 percent to gasoline makes little sense any way that one looks at it.

Perhaps you need to get out a little more in order to release some of that pent-up anger. Take a walk and smell some roses along the way (while you still can).

Ethanol has been in use in vehicles for decades and has been very sucsessful, The First time I heard about it was in the mid 70's during the gas crisis...but my granfather ran his tractor almost solely from ethanol, diesel was used to start the motor, but after that...it ran completely off ethanol...and lasted almost 1/3 longer than a tank of diesel. as for solar, in homes is great but not enough research has been done to master this science for the road...maybe someday...but solar is great if you wanna cut your electricity bill in your home between 58%- 161% and if your home is tied into the grid...the electric company owes you money every month

I get your point Shadow but you are “over selling” a small part of the big picture , in 07 we did replace 8 billion actual gallons of gas with ethanol and a number of the farm coops are burning pure ethanol for all of their energy needs (this is why non diesel tractors are making a come back, when E100 is available directly it is under $1.60 a gallon in ) ...as far as stations selling ethanol there are over 3000 nation wide we now have 5 in central Florida , bad news is we have no local ethanol production yet so it is all trucked in from the mid west .
But I am advocating cellulose or biomass ethanol and always have been it is our corruptible government that railroaded us into “wet mill corn” ethanol and has kept us in that rut for decades. You keep referring to ethanol as “less powerful than gas” and this evaluation is based on its lower heat potential...so does you car run on “heat” ? Mine runs on the force developed in combustion and wastes 10% of its energy getting ride of the excess heat generated by gas ! .Top fuel draggsters and off road race cars all burn E100 because it can develop more “force” with less “heat” in any application built for ethanol...it is just a coincidence that it will burn in a car designed for regular gas and is a direct replacement for the highest grade of gas out there...in fact in a car that is only able to run on “High test” E90 only loses 1% of its MPG ...but that is another blog.

I guess I should stop picking on “solar power” its just that our government keeps playing on the ignorance of people and putting all our eggs in one basket ...by pushing “solar power” (and soon wind power*) they are able to pretend that they doing “something” while playing the same old game year in and year out ....the poorest county's in the world use Ethanol because they can't afford gas , we on the other hand can/could/should develop 20% or even 30% of our total transportation fuel as renewable ...with little effort and at a much lower cost than what we are paying now 70% of all the gas/diesel burned every year in the US could be replaced by NG/bio fuels ...but “Solar” and “wind” and “hydro electric” can replace ...well effectively “0%” of our needs for transportation and agriculture. ...you CAN'T power a semi with “solar” and you CANT fertilize a field with “wind”

Less is More!!! I'm on a one man crusade to fight back the rising cost of gas.I cancelled my cell phone,my bellsouth internet and went w/a free service,cancelled directv and went w/basic cable,i shut my home a/c in the day,open my windows and put on ceiling fans,drive w/a/c off & use my m/c as much as i can.If the goverment won't do anything,we have to do all we can to save money anyway we can and i'm not done yet.I've spread the word to all my friends&family to try and do the same.
