An analysis of federal records shows that the amount of money journalists contributed so far this election cycle favors Democrats by a 15:1 ratio over Republicans, with $225,563 going to Democrats, only $16,298 to Republicans .
Two-hundred thirty-five journalists donated to Democrats, just 20 gave to Republicans — a margin greater than 10-to-1. An even greater disparity, 20-to-1, exists between the number of journalists who donated to Barack Obama and John McCain.
Searches for other newsroom categories (reporters, correspondents, news editors, anchors, newspaper editors and publishers) produces 311 donors to Democrats to 30 donors to Republicans, a ratio of just over 10-to-1. In terms of money, $279,266 went to Dems, $20,709 to Republicans, a 14-to-1 ratio.
And while the money totals pale in comparison to the $9-million-plus that just one union's PACs have spent to get Obama elected, they are more substantial than the amount that Obama has criticized John McCain for receiving from lobbyists: 96 lobbyists have contributed $95,850 to McCain, while Obama — who says he won't take money from PACs or federal lobbyists — has received $16,223 from 29 lobbyists.

“The nation’s top Democrats are suddenly rushing to appear on the Fox News Channel, which they once had shunned as enemy territory as the nemesis of liberal bloggers.”
I have yet to see any of this on this blog forum.
I always wondered why Hillary and Barack never would appear on FOX. To me it is kind of silly the way the news organizations have picked political sides. I think that this is really a start of something good. Why should news should be politically motivated. After all, people just want to be aware of what is going on around them. Why can’t people be allowed to form their own opinions without being spoon-fed? Opinions? Thoughts? Comments?

...To quit hijacking Boogyman’s “The Liberal/Communist Agenda” blog. I will start a new one. Am I the only one who sees that one of the loudest voices of the Democrat party are socialist?
Today’s
Democrat Party is selling change again and they have exactly the same kinds of change in mind that Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev and Alinsky had in mind.
Today’s Democrats call themselves “the Party of the Working Class, the poor, the downtrodden.” They promise to rob from “the rich” for the betterment of the poor. In other words, they are selling exactly what
Marx and many other communists have sold over the years, “From each, according to his ability; to each, according to his need.”
Same Change – New Name
Socialized medicine is being sold as “universal
health care” - Government ownership or control of the nation’s vast natural resources is being sold as “environmentalism” – Freedom of Religion is now being sold as “freedom from
religion,” in accordance with the Marx view that “The first requisite for the happiness of the people is the abolition of religion.” Need I go on with example after example, through every facet of today’s federal atrocity called government, before you will realize what we have done?
Corporations, which are nothing more than people, from the hourly worker to the CEO and shareholder, are now the “evil” face of Democrat’s primary target, capitalism. That’s because Democrats have adopted the belief of Vladimir Lenin, that “Capitalists are no more capable of self-sacrifice than a man is capable of lifting himself up by his own bootstraps.”
In sum, according to Lenin and today’s Democrats, the average American is no longer suited for self-governance and they (Democrats) must step in and rob from those greedy capitalists in order to save you from yourself.
As
Hillary Clinton recently stated it quite clearly, “We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.” Nikita Khrushchev said it this way, “Comrades! We must abolish the cult of the individual decisively, once and for all” and obviously, today’s Democrat Party is united in this belief system.
The Obama Revolution
On the basis of an abstract idea, change, which none of his followers can define because he refuses to openly define it himself, Obama fans, and that is the correct term since he is nothing more than a media creation, swoon at his feet like prepubescent girls at a Beatles concert, begging to be led deeper and deeper into Democratic Socialism whereby private resources can be confiscated by the
federal government from unwilling private citizens who earned them, for the greater common good.
There is nothing new, innovative or exciting about the kinds of change being offered by today’s DNC. They are the same old revolutionary ideas of men like Lenin, Marx and Alinsky in the past, and Chavez and Castro today.

My new theory is that SOmike is a student who dorks around on the computer during a really intense class like study hall.

So the Times attempts to add pressure to McCain. I think for the most part the public sees the smear attack for what it really was. The only positive or negative that I can see coming out of this is a narrowing of expectations of how this candidate can handle pressure from the external sources. Did he pass/fail?

Near-surface warming in the Arctic has been almost twice as large as the global average over recent decades1, 2, 3, 4, 5—a phenomenon that is known as the 'Arctic amplification'. The underlying causes of this temperature amplification remain uncertain. The reduction in snow and ice cover that has occurred over recent decades6, 7 may have played a role5, 8. Climate model experiments indicate that when global temperature rises, Arctic snow and ice cover retreats, causing excessive polar warming9, 10, 11. Reduction of the snow and ice cover causes albedo changes, and increased refreezing of sea ice during the cold season and decreases in sea-ice thickness both increase heat flux from the ocean to the atmosphere. Changes in oceanic and atmospheric circulation, as well as cloud cover, have also been proposed to cause Arctic temperature amplification12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. Here we examine the vertical structure of temperature change in the Arctic during the late twentieth century using reanalysis data. We find evidence for temperature amplification well above the surface. Snow and ice feedbacks cannot be the main cause of the warming aloft during the greater part of the year, because these feedbacks are expected to primarily affect temperatures in the lowermost part of the atmosphere, resulting in a pattern of warming that we only observe in spring. A significant proportion of the observed temperature amplification must therefore be explained by mechanisms that induce warming above the lowermost part of the atmosphere. We regress the Arctic temperature field on the atmospheric energy transport into the Arctic and find that, in the summer half-year, a significant proportion of the vertical structure of warming can be explained by changes in this variable. We conclude that changes in atmospheric heat transport may be an important cause of the recent Arctic temperature amplification.

Most of us take summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity just got stolen. The scam has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado. This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they're with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud. Check it out here:

While the news focus has been on the lowest ice extent since satellite monitoring began in 1979 for the Arctic, the Southern Hemisphere (Antarctica) has quietly set a new record for most ice extent since 1979.
This can be seen on this graphic from this University of Illinois site The Cryosphere Today, which updated snow and ice extent for both hemispheres daily. The Southern Hemispheric areal coverage is the highest in the satellite record, just beating out 1995, 2001, 2005 and 2006. Since 1979, the trend has been up for the total Antarctic ice extent.
While the Antarctic Peninsula area has warmed in recent years and ice near it diminished during the Southern Hemisphere summer, the interior of Antarctica has been colder and ice elsewhere has been more extensive and longer lasting, which explains the increase in total extent. This dichotomy was shown in this World Climate Report blog posted recently with a similar tale told in this paper by Ohio State Researcher David Bromwich, who agreed “It’s hard to see a global warming signal from the mainland of Antarctica right now”.
Indeed, according the NASA GISS data, the South Pole winter (June/July/August) has cooled about 1 degree F since 1957 and the coldest year was 2004.

First off, it is very important to address the fact that Earth is not the only planet to be experiencing climate change in our solar system currently. In fact, many astronomers have announced that Pluto has been experiencing global warming, and suggested that it is a seasonal event, just like how Earth’s seasons change as the various hemispheres alter their inclination to the Sun. We must remember that it is the Sun that determines our seasons, and thusly has a greater impact upon the climate than we could ever even try to achieve. In May of 2006, a report came forward revealing that a massive hurricane-like storm that occurred on Jupiter may be caused by climate change occurring on the planet, which is expected to raise its temperatures by 10 degrees. National Geographic News reported that a simultaneous rising in temperature on both Mars and Earth suggest that climate change is indeed a natural phenomenon as opposed to being man-made. The report further explains how NASA has reported that Mars’ carbon dioxide ice caps have been melting for a few years now. Sound familiar? An astronomical observatory in Russia declared that, “the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun”. They further point out that both Mars and Earth have, throughout their histories, experienced periodic ice ages as climate changes in a continuous fashion. NASA has also been observing massive storms on Saturn, which indicate a climate change occurring on that planet as well. NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has also been recording massive climate changes on Neptune’s largest moon, Triton. Triton, whose surface was once made up of frozen nitrogen, is now turning into gas. The Associated Press has reported that satellites that measure the temperature of sunlight have been recording an increase in the sun’s temperature, meaning that the sun itself is warming up. Even the London Telegraph reported in 2004 that global warming was due to the sun being hotter than it has ever been in the past 1,000 years. They cited this information from research conducted by German and Swiss scientists who claim that it is increasing radiation from the sun that is resulting in our current climate change.

OTTAWA - Americans living in Canada prefer the U.S. health-care system for speed, quality and diagnostic technology, says a new study. But they also applaud the equity and cost-effectiveness of Canada's system. And in the final analysis, 40 per cent prefer the Canadian system.
The study, released Wednesday in the online medical journal Open Medicine, was based on the responses of 310 Americans living in Canada between two and five years, mostly in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.
There have been many studies that compare the two health-care systems, but this is likely the first time the Canadian and U.S. systems have been compared based on the perceptions of consumers who have experienced both.
"It's a good test of the Canadian health-care system," said lead researcher Steven Lewis, a health policy analyst and an adjunct professor at the University of Calgary.
The respondents were invited to participate through newspaper advertisements because there is no database of Americans living in Canada. Of the respondents, more than half had a household income of more than $100,000 a year, and 58 per cent had a master's degree or higher. In a survey of this size, there is a margin of error between four and five per cent, 19 times out of 20.
Overall, the Americans said they preferred the U.S. system for emergency, specialist, hospital and diagnostic services, and said they preferred the timeliness and quality of the American system.
However, they also rated Canada's system high for access to drug therapy and ranked the services of family physicians almost equally in both countries. They also rated the equity and cost efficiency of Canada's system highly.
The participants were upper middle-class, mostly the kind of people likely to be well-insured in the U.S., said Lewis.
"They had high expectations of health care in Canada," he said. "I was surprised by they solidarity they showed for the Canadian system. Even their praise of the American system was qualified. They said, 'Yes, it is good. But it is expensive, and not everyone has access.' "
For the most part, the Americans had the same criticisms as Canadians about the system - especially wait times.
In all, 260 of the Americans identified wait times as the most significant negative feature of the Canadian system, while 192 identified quality of care as the most positive feature of the U.S. system.
In all, 196 of the Americans said cost efficiency was the best thing about the Canadian system, while 223 said cost inefficiency was the worst thing about the U.S. system.
"Both systems are flawed and have equal pros and cons. Access to everyday care and preventative care is better in the U.S. However, not having to pay out of pocket for specialists and serious illnesses is a big plus in Canada," said one participant.
Meanwhile, 32 per cent also noted that while they lived in the U.S., health insurance concerns affected their decisions about where to look for a job, and 29 per cent said it influenced decisions about whether to remain at a workplace.
Health insurance considerations affect job mobility in the U.S., said Dr. William Ghali, one of the researchers in the study and a professor of medicine and community health science at the University of Calgary.
"It is very clear that even this demographic group had to stop and think about what to (do) about their health insurance."

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington D.C. 20510
Dear Senator Harkin,
As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, an illegal alien needs to have been in the United States for five years. If he then wishes to become a citizen he needs only to to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before others figure out the advantages.
Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year, so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $ 2,000 fine.
Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively; This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.
Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.
Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.
Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those annoying car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.
If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.
Your Loyal Constituent,

RELEASE No. 20070925-12
September 25, 2007
Iraqis, Coalition troops open refurbished school
Multi-National Division – Center PAO
FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq — City council members and school leaders hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to signify the re-opening of a renovated school in Saba Nissan Sept. 22.
Soldiers and leaders of 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, and 489th Civil Affairs Battalion, who facilitated the rebuilding of the school, attended the ceremony. Although Coalition Forces supported the project through funding and mentoring, Iraqi contractors and council members headed the project.
Juma’h Mawat Badday, the school principal, cut the red ribbon as Capt. Jared Albright, of Lancaster, Pa., commander, Troop B, 3-1 Cav. Regt., and Hassan Maheed Hamza, a member of the city council, stood by in support of the event.
“When the school year begins, this school will be one of many that will educate and prepare the future leaders of both your community and Iraq,” Albright said.
According to 2nd Lt. Richard Perry, of Durham, N.C., Troop B fire support officer, the project to rebuild the school has been in progress for about four months.
The entire structure was restructured, he said. The broken walls were fixed, new classrooms were set up and a new playground was constructed.
After the ceremony, Lt. Col. John Kolasheski, of Louden, Tenn., commander, 3-1 Cav. Regt., toured the new school. At the same time, Soldiers from 3-1 Cav. Regt. and 489th Civil Affairs Battalion handed out book bags filled with school supplies to teachers and children.
“Today we not only celebrate the opening of this school, but we also celebrate the Iraqi government’s commitment to building a strong country that is able to meet the needs of its citizens,” Albright said. “This new school is a prime example of what can happen when the Iraqi government and Coalition Forces work together.”
