Funny all of a sudden FEMA, The President and just about everyone else is making an appearance in Louisiana.

Our government's ability to be reactive instead of proactive just amazes me. What do you think?

Well, they ARE being proactive in the sense that the hurricane hasn't hit yet.

Basically, nobody wants a repeat of Katrina's debacle. They're telling to prepare for the worst, or better still, leave. And judging by the shots of the highways leading out of the city, a LOT of people are doing just that.

But the proof is in the pudding. We'll see what happens, and how well FEMA does its job. My guess is: it'll overreact -- spending much more money than necessary. But that's okay, it's only money, and there's plenty more where that came from. They'll just raise taxes.

In this case, Bush and FEMA are trying to be proactive, not reactive, Patrick. "Proactive" means taking action before the fact; "reactive," taking it after the fact. We'll see how they'll do, but "W" will never be able to wipe his Katrina debacle off his record. Hopefully, this time he and McCain will refrain from giggling over birthday cake and licking frosting off their fingers on a tarmac in Arizona, as they did on the very day when Katrina had already made landfall in New Orleans and American citizens were drowning in their own country. "Heck of a job, Bushie!"

Poor confused Patrick. First off it is not Bush's job to watch over Louisiana it is the local elected officials. They FAILED for Katrina but mostly the morons without insurance and without food or water failed themselves and their own families when warned and told to leave and they failed to do so.

You cannot blame all of your problems on the government, at some point you MUST be accountable for yourself!

This time the Governor and the mayor of N.O. decided that "Stay put, it will be alright" was not such a good idea. Don't go blaming Bush for the problems of Katrina, that fault lies entirely on Ray Nagen and his convincing the people to stay put. I still beleive that he and the former governor should have been prosecuted for murder.

Typical of simple minded people to blame others for their problems. Toddt you are excatly right. It is time that people wake up and admit they are the problem not the government. Beside how can the government be responcable for the weather and the stupid action of the people.

Lets remember that FEMA can't do ANYTHING until LOCAL leadership declares an emergency and sets things in motion.

Remember that Katrina had the White House having to actually call the Gov. of LA and asking her WHEN she was going to put things in motion.

Its just disgusting that liberals will point fingers all day long at the Feds, but fail to have ANY intellectual honesty to admit to their part. Besides that, I have no sympathy for New Orleans when after the neglect of their own Mayor and law enforcement, RE-ELECT Mr. "Chcolate City!"

The MAJOR problems with Katrina was the lack of ANYTHING from the city and state gov't.

FEMA has always said the state/community is responsible for the first 3 days after a disaster. You can't stage for a disaster in the disaster area. You have to wait until roads are clear.

New Orleans didn't have what it needed for one day, much less 3, so they played the Democrat card...blame the Republicans.

Funny how when disaster hit most any other areas, we don't hear these complaints. Maybe because they are PREPARED!!

The difference this time..a Republican govenor who knows what he is doing!!

You liberals really want to “go there” again ? You will lose all the ground you gained with all your Katrina lies 3 years ago . The “facts” are not your friend dear Demonrats ! President Bush did in fact declare an “emergency” and offer all federal help 4 days before Katrina made land fall ...it is the mayor of NO and the governor of LA who not only refused all available help but also supported legal action to prevent any help from coming after the storm ! ...”teem Donkey” committed MURDER in the name of party politics in New Orleans 3 years ago. ...so by all means DO bring it up again !

It just dawned on me that maybe the dems in control 3 years ago sacreficed those poor people in order for the rest of us to rebuild what they have torn down little by little. Hey, hears an idea, lets not do anything and let the hurricane destroy everything here and the taxpayers in the rest of the country will pitch in and make everything brand new for us. What a deal!

...you just now figured out the New Orleans city planers had to “blue print” for the rebuilding of the city BEFORE the storm came along ? LOL fact is the only thing that was standing in the way of “rebuilding” NO was all those inconvenient poor people who owned homes in the area! By killing them off they get a triple bonus 1st it got them out of the way of development 2nd it gave them an excuse to make the federal government pay for all the multi billion dollar buildings in down town and 3rd it pushed forward the “anti Iraq war” mission that the Governor of LA was committed to before the storm....the donkey “spin” campaign of saying “Bush doesn't care about black” people was an opportunistic bonus that cropped up after the fact and was just to good to pass up!

Now don't be so disrespectful Ram , fact is Obama is exactly where he will be whenever a disaster is happening...out running his campaign ! Remember he started his run 18 months ago , that means that on the day he was elected he was thinking ONLY of his bid for the white house ! So it is obvious that if elected he will probably go right back to the campaign trail the day after the election. SP said last night : Some use “change” to promote their political carrier while others use their carrier to promote change !...I can cut that/this down : “Change is more than skin deep” !

I won't respond to someone's derogatory comment calling Obama "brownie" but be assured comments like that will be deleted promptly. By the way unlike his opponent Obama didn't go to New Orleans and get in the way. When VIP's visit any area they get police escorts and the secret service uses local LEO's to do other things and those are valuable resources that can be deployed in other areas prior to a storm.
