PastorD's Blog

Back in August there was a lot of speculation about Todd Bentley. He presented himself, as an unconventional charismatic preacher who was preaching to tens of thousands of people in Lakeland. He seemed like a very unlikely character for God to utilize, but God used a lot of unlikely characters in the bible too. Our local paper ran an article on him and I found some of his antics to be less than godly. This big revival went on for about 100 days, then he abruptly left. Fresh Fire stated that he had planned to take his ministry on the road.

In a letter released to supporters on Friday, leaders detailed Bentley's shortcomings. It appears he had some sexual immorality issues. Seems like the budding relationship with the former intern-turned-staff, who also served as a live in nanny to his three children in Canada story finally got out!

I found it odd that our local paper ran the first article about him on the front page. His latest article was hidden on the back page. The board's recent letter ended saying, "Todd Bentley has demonstrated himself unfaithful to his wife by entering into a relationship with another woman, while still legally married... His sins have been sins of the flesh, and we do not defend them."

I thought to myself, what a joke! We do not defend them. No! We just hide them for a few months, and then we get the news papers and local stations to bury the scathing truth, so we don't loose our buckets of offerings from the "Side Shows"!

Looks like we were both right about ole Todd. Kinda easy to spot greedy charlatans, ain't it?

I didn't like the big show. He did not have an aire of integrity and respectibility about him from my perspective (had nothing to do with appearance as I know rought looking people whom I respect and who exude integrity). Sexual immorality is wrong; sin is sin and needs to be condemned.

At the same time I am saddened by the harm this has done for the cause of Christ, for this man's family, and for him personally.
It is also sobering ... except for the grace of God, there go I in that sin or any sin.

Scripture tells us that many false prophets will come in the end. This is just another example.
Jim and Tammy Baker were just the tip of the iceberg.

The iceberg is huge and deep. It is seemingly bottomless. But all the foes of Christ, that pretend to know Him, and pretend to do good in His name, will one day stand before Him.

I hope they are ready.

I consider myself a conservative republican, who gets annoyed with double standard positions. As a pastor, I serve in many areas of ministry and I am governed by a moral compass. I feel the world would be a better place if all people would be more mindful of implementing and acting in a moral way.
